You mean like this? :pimpflash

obstacles-to-your-success.jpg

Exactly. Not a good day for that picker.

Like that or a nephew sized golf ball.

View media item 38281 Somehow I knew I’d never live that post down.

Either way, good to see you Jakemac.

Thanks.
I’ve never really been gone, just really really quiet. I’ve missed the hunt, but had to step away. My obsessions were starting to clash and my wallet has been complaining profusely.
Now if I can only get past my soccer jersey obsession, I might have chance of survival.

Evening guys, guess I did get an early start this year!

FYI the "jip-can" flask metal gauge will have to settled at a later date [emoji12]

Anyway looking for some advice regarding the big wooden screw clamp.
I've freed it up and hit it with a little methylated spirit and wire wool, but any suggestions on how to lube the wooden threads? Oil? Grease? Wax? [emoji848] DSC_1107.jpgView attachment 1

First time I've gotten out on the first day of the year - only one estate sale within a reasonable distance, and on my way to another destination. The whole haul consisted of these two. The Indestro-Channellock pattern pliers lack about 1/8" of closing all the way on the narrowest groove. They don't appear to be bent or worn, so I guess they were made that way. Strange.
Got both for $1 :) (plus about $5 worth of gas:("

I didn't start off to bad. A pair of SK boxes for 20 bucks.
That's a you **** price. The bottom one is for the master socket set which would include 1/2" 3/8" and 1/4 socket sets with a set of short and long DBEs. I would put each box worth at least $50-$75.

Looking for the following Plomb Pebbles Wrenches 3061, 3070,

Yeah, I turned driver duties over to my daughter so I could type up my opening as we drove and have it ready to launch when we got home. She did great--a 21-yr old driver (who normally drives a '65 Malibu-sized car) wheeling a full size pick up truck up the Jersey Turnpike and thru NYC. At night. In the pouring rain. She's awesome!

Welcome--we hope to see what you find!

What she lacks in experience and skill she probably makes up in better vision and reflexes.

Looking forward to this years' posts.

Regards.

Oily Nails: That WWII detail saw with the 1943 MOD broad arrow is a sweet find! Congrats. As for its utility, the British MOD, like the US Army Ordnance Dept and Quartermaster Corps (QMC), bought anything you can imagine in terms of tool-sets for trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electricians, masonry, etc. If it was being done in the civilian world, it was being done in the military.

She did well, that's for sure.

Nice finds on the first day, gents. Keep that momentum going as the new year winds out!

I'm hoping to be a lot more active this year with the finds, last year I would post like crazy for 1 or 2 weeks and then disappear into the wind for months.

Speaking of which, I found these NOS car mats from the 60's or 70's at Goodwill for $5 a piece yesterday. They are a dark brown and I assume they are for a Cadillac based on the type of car look on the front...?

You are ALREADY finding stuff??

It's winter, all the garage/estate-sales have dried up. :)

And BUMP. Going to tag this thread. Onward!

I live in SW AZ. Winter time IS garage/estate sale time! Summer time is where the tools bite back after sitting in the sun for hours.

Congrats, Oily Nails, for the first find of the year--and from England! Well done!

In all fairness BB, Nails has at least a 5 hour head start on any of us in the states. Also, they have "hoons" over there - whatever the hell that is. Another obvious advantage.

To "Hoon"

A random drive on country roads with no particular destination but just the joy of driving your car. Typically pushing the (legal) limits, but mostly enjoying the drive.

Personally I do these very early (pre-6am) on a weekend morning where if I was to make a mistake the only one injured would be myself.... And possibly sheep.

I end up all over, Scotland, Wales, etc. etc. and usually spot a sign in a village saying car show/ antique fair/ carboot

I figured Hoon was the metric unit for garage space required to house your find, roughly equivalent to a Yost 33C. Making a Bridgeport about .07 Kilohoon, and a 1216 1/2” pebble combo an even Centihoon.

Wednesday flea market find. 2/58 228E Coleman lantern and carry box for $10.
Lantern is in very good condition, with extra KMart mantles. Coleman embossing and glass etching very clear ( not my pics unfortunately).

Nice find on the coleman. I can't seem to pass up any of the liquid fuel lanterns I come across. I have more than a dozen from last years garage sales.

Sounds like you need someone to send you a cake with a hacksaw blade in it!

Glad to see you checked in, Mr_P. You were on a roll there for awhile last year and then you disappeared on us.
