Got these roll pin insertion punches the part number on the pouch is 62260-SS. The pouch says Mayhew but I have my doubts. Are these the real thing or just some cheap knockoffs. There is no manufacture stamp, USA, part number or size stamped on the tools. The only wording is "WEAR SAFETY GOOGLES" It's stainless steel cause a magnet won't stick to it.

did I get ripped off?

those are to remove roll pins. this set is to insert the roll pin. you put the roll pin into the hole and it holds it in place so you can install it, that way you don't have to use your fingers and get them smashed.

I got the same set about a year ago and thought the same thing, where is the "made in usa" stamp. I called Mayhew and they assured me that the set is made in the USA.

That should be the new rule. If you're going to post tools, post the lowest price found!

Ah.. I was just busting Krustys balls, Most people search for the lowest price when there tool shopping via the internets. I thought maybe the OP was wanting to sell his Punches so i was wanting the lowest price listed for possible negotiating terms. LOL

Those are some strange looking punches with holes in the end -- not the kind of roll pin punches I'm used to seeing.

Normally the roll pin punches you see have a dimple on the end to drive the pin out while centering the punch or to guide the punch into the pin for installation. These punches are for pin installation only. The pin slides in the end of the punch leaving about half of the pin exposed. It saves trying to hold the pin and the punch while hitting the punch squarly with a hammer to drive the pin in the hole.

I never knew they made 'em! If I end up working on stuff that has a lot of roll pins in the future I'll be sure and get a set, roll pins can be hard on the fingers.

If those are really stamped GOOGLES and not GOGGLES I will call ******** on Mayhew's claim of being made in U.S.A.

When I called Mayhew to ask about the coo of the punches, they put me in touch with one of the engineers. I found the people at Mayhew to be customer oriented. They said if I ever had a question about any of thier products to call and they would do what they could to satisfy my inquiry. In today's day and age, I have to applaud them for that since so many other tool companies do not want to talk to customers.

I can see how they'd be useful in steering the roll pin towards on center. I've always started the roll pin by tapping it a couple of times directly with the face of a hammer, and then finish driving it in with a roll pin punch. They should call those "roll pin starter punches."

Merk, good point. The name is misleading. Its a nice tool to have but one that I do not use often. Like anything else, I am addicted to tools so I had to have it. My wife cannot understand why I need so many ratchets and other tools. She suggested that I join toolaholic anamyous!
