I have the same craftsman 3/4 drive metal box. If you need a pic of it with sockets let me know. Rich

RC,
I'd love to see a pic of it with sockets and if you have the entire compliment of what this "kit" would have included. If I don't have everything I believe I'm at least very close.

Thanks!

Pic of the KampLite I got on line from the Coleman Forum that came in the mail today:

Both together - the red one is not clocked right as It was disassembled to save on shipping costs, and I just have it barely together (Pre cleanup):

Same lantern, same MFG, AGM - American Gas Machine; slightly different eras (Working on what the years were now)

regarding Evaporust and its potency and duration:
It would be interesting to test that, though. If everyone using Evaporust...

...tried using it as the electrolyte in their e-tank???

I was going to try that myself, but threw out my Evaporust after it lost its effectiveness - decided it wasn't worth the cost compared to e-tank, and I didn't think the results were as good.

Let's see, my e-tank is fairly modest sized, about 12 gallons ... hmmm

Don't know about other's experiences with the e-tank but it removes the paint as well when I've used it. There are times that I'm good with that and others where I'd prefer to use Evaporust. What about others experiences?

That’s a great group of tools. I’m currently working on a 1/4” Williams set that your new ratchet would have come in. I thought you might like to see it. Here are a few pictures. The last shot is of a New Britain sourced Craftsman BE 1/4” drive set similar to the set your New Britain sourced circle H ratchet would have come in.
-Don

These are really neat sets. Thanks for sharing!

That little Williams rat looks like something a knight would tighten his armor with.

E-tank certainly ruins paint, and it can do funny stuff with stainless and chrome too. I only use it for iron and steel.

My smaller tank, I use distilled water and graphite electrodes, and its less messy. If I'm using the trash can, it gets hose water and rebar.

The knurling is what’s unusual about Slew’ S-K socket. I have plenty of the bullet shaped S-K sockets but none wth knurling like that.

-Don
Oh, I see it now. Slew's S-K socket has more rectilinear patterned knurling, whereas the sockets in your pics have the pattern running on a 45-degree angle. Hmmm, now I need to go look at mine.

I did pretty good this weekend. The grinder is all there. It does have the water tray its not in the shot. Its going to clean up pretty nice. If anyone knows where to get bearings for this model off hand please let me know. Ill check the block thread. The Rock Island is a little crusty and that yellow paint is the toughest I've dealt with so far. My ususal oven cleaner trick wouldnt touch it. Jaws are in great shape but the screws are rusted in for now. I paid $20 for both.

Acetone and a wire brush work great for me on vises most of the time.

I found that some paints will slough off, but most of the time it only removes the paint when there is rust underneath it. The question I don't have an answer to is how to know in advance which you've got.

TEEN: good to see you posting again!! are you a MARINE or maybe you went in a different direction? nice find and keep up the good work. is your 11 year old brother still working in your old shop on your lathe and working with some of your old tools?

LUMP: hope your personal and/or health issues are behind you so you can post more and have more fun.

ALL: here's a picture of my latest Lyon Rotobin that is about 3 foot tall and 3 foot wide that I picked up a couple days ago from a great guy that brought his 10 year old twins to help us unload it in one piece. also he mentioned that the twins were his oldest of 8 (yes that's not a typo) kids and they were perfect gentlemen too.

I'm always looking for free or cheap building materials and this ad popped up for free cement blocks and I couldn't haul them all in one trip in my pretty stout 4x8 trailer so i'll get the rest tomorrow that were delivered to my daughter's home where she and her husband will put them on bare dirt so I can make them some raised bed gardens.

while I was loading up the cement blocks the seller who was cleaning up his lot he just bought from a hoarder he put this roof vent in the scrap pile and he said I could have it. i need a cover over my fireplace that was on my TO DO list this summer and i think I can spiff this up and make it work.

hope you all had a great weekend.

Navy. check out the woodworking thread I put a post or two in there the other day of pics my mom has sent me

Thanks guys on the flying lady. I see your box bluebolt. That’s a bit nicer with the drawers. This one’s cool because it’s tiny and quite portable.

I went back to that same estate sale just before close the last day and found a few more pieces. There was a lot less stuff but still a ton of unsold tools, wrenches, test equipment, hardware, and parts. It wasn’t one of those fill a box type sales.

The little Vanadium Tool Co. ignition wrench set was one of the main things I went back for, and luckily it was still there! I was surprised to see it honestly. Being all rolled up, people probably thought it was an eyeglasses case or something. Not sure how I left it behind on day 1, but ended up getting it cheaper the second time around.

There were a bunch of unfinished/unmarked Vanadium Tool Co combos and open ends there as well. Maybe a dozen or so. They varied in degree of blemishes. That was a treat to see. There were something like 5 or 6 of the same 9/16 combo. One of the wrenches had a definitive partial stamp, to help distinguish them from any other v notch brand.

-VTC ignition wrench set
-Heller file that also came in the wrench roll
-Indestro Super 1/2” ratchet
- screwdrivers- a tiny Tuck and another Craftsman 1/8 amber handle,my third recently
-Plomb dbe
-Proto Los Angeles brake tool
-Mac SC45 tool 1/4 drive/spanner socket. Forgot what this is for. Dash or carb?
-Milwaukee open end wrench. Another interesting one.
- old multi tool with bits in handle. Seen a bunch of these but can’t think of a name, may need help with ID.

Bits inside the handle- gouge, screwdrivers, chisel.

Coming from the estate sale, ran into a yard sale with tools. My first official yard sale of the season. I looked through all the tools, found a couple, then the guy told me he’d kept the good stuff in the house because nobody wanted to pay him anything. He busted out a whole bunch more including the Snappy ratchet, the Fleet, and the nice P&C. Needless to say I was happy.

Craftsman 1/4 ratchet
Fleet 3/8 ratchet
P&C 3/8 breaker bar
Snap On 3/8 ratchet
Snap On screwdriver
Mac screwdriver
Stevens Walden 1/4 socket spinner

With good reason! That's a terrific find. VTC shows up here on GJ in dribs and drabs (if you go to the Vintage Board, we're discussing an angle wrench set right now, and I posted some VTC history...), but I don't remember an ignition wrench set before. Sweet that you can still read the stamped branding on the leatherette roll-up.

I would love to see the wrenches out of the pouch, 3b. Interested in seeing the configuration (i.e., angles of the other heads) and sizes of the set.

Some more pics. They’re four pairs of duplicates. Never seen a set like this. I’ve seen the combo ignition sets like Craftsman with say, a 1/4 open end on one wrench and box on another, if you know what I mean.

:wtf: That's the strangest thing I have ever seen. Usually with ignition wrenches the duplicates are on the other end - affording each size two different angles! I would wonder if it was a mistake, but both ends are the same angle too! They are miniature engineers wrenches, with 15* angles. The only wrench sets I know that came this way - in duplicate pairs - were tappet wrenches - which these clearly aren't.

I rode over to the local recycle center to drop off some garbage/recyclables and just as I'm about to throw a broken grille into the metal dumpster I notice one of the recycle workers helping an old couple throw things into the same dumpster. I look closely and I see they're starting to throw away a bunch of old buckets full of old tools.

I immediately ask the recycle guy if I can have them and he says take what ever you want. So I did and this is what I was able to grab.

Tool names among the pics are S-K, Craftsman, Klein, Proto, Armstrong, William, Barco, Black & Decker, Ridgid, Channellock, Stanley and bunch of hammers, hatchets and misc Japanise stuff and others I haven't checked yet. Plus four small tool boxes with TOM embossed on them and misc. stuff inside them. A couple levels and a bunch of different trowels and putty knifes, etc. Plus some fishing stuff, some of which I gave to a guy standing next to me. More stuff then pictures I posted.

No idea what they threw out before I got there. I know they threw away a pair of nice wooden oars, but I couldn't retrieve them.

Picked this Porter-Cable FR350 framing nailer up off CL today. I've been wanting a framing nailer for a while but the only ones I've seen were priced too high or beat to hell. Also, came with two half-boxes of 3" & 3-1/4" nails. Set me back a Grant and I'm happy to have it at that price.

This won't thrill anyone but the WWII jeep guys, but I found an early war (1941-1942) General Detroit Corp S-O-S Fire Guard fire extinguisher at the flea market this morning.

attachment.php

It's a little tarnished and dinged, but has most of the original finish, the brass label is very legible, and it will spiff up nice. This is one of two verified FE's that Willys issued to all MB's during WWII. Not a unicorn, but a fewnicorn for sure, sought after by guys with jeeps with early DODs. In an effort to conserve brass, the brass labels were discontinued and replaced with paper sticker decals in late 1942.

The newspapers are all 1943 through 1945 Stars and Stripes.
