Carolus was Gedore's lower line. It is being phased out and replaced by Gedore Red. I saw a display of Red Line tools a few weeks ago. Mostly Taiwan with some China and even India COO. I think the pliers were German. It's probably OK quality but not nearly to the level of their regular Gedore line. The wrenches didn't impress me and the ratchets looked like the standard Taiwan ones that are everywhere.

Yeah Gedore Red is the old Carolus and they are day and night compared to Gedore.

I have seen a lot of the tools from close and a few are ok but most of them I would not buy and I am not a pro, just wrench on my car, bikes and home projects.

You guys convinced me, I'm going to return them (unless someone here wants them, got a good price and they look to be pretty nice, 100 shipped) I actually found a more complete blackhawk set (8-19mm no skips) for only about 30 dollars more. Probably made in the same factory (or not) but its a more complete set, and I wont feel as wronged

Jealous man. Curious what you think of that soldering iron. I had my eye on that and the heat gun for electronics repairs but I’m currently just going with crimp connections and a lighter for heat shrinks lol.

So far, I love it. I’d never really use it for bench repairs, but for quick use absolutely. I used the iron Sunday to solder jumpers around a intermittent, scratchy sounding circuit breaker in an old speaker. 10’ up and on a ladder, it was just the ticket. Using the soldering station up there would have been really awkward.

I’m thinking about the heat gun too. I’ve gotta corded one, but a lot of times you’re just making up a couple of joints with solder and heat shrink and cordless is way more convenient.

Maybe it's just me, but I try to keep my power tools in the same brand. makes things a bit easier on the eyes... also a bit easier on battery versatility.

That ship sailed a log time ago for me. I just pick up additional batteries when they are on sale. I've got Milwaukee 18v & 12 V, Makita 18V, Bosch 18 V, Ryobi 18 V, Hitachi 12V and Festool (11V?) LiIon batteries. When I started building up the cordless stuff after my original Makita 7.2 and 9.6V NiCad & NIMH batteries continued to fail too early, Milwaukee didn't have the depth of product line they have now. Bosch had broad coverage and their batteries last a long time. And it never fails, one manufacturer will have a class-leading tool so if you want the best item within a category, you have to be open to a different battery platform.

To me it's how well the tool performs and how well it fits in my hand - how it feels. Different color schemes never really came to mind as being objectionable. The only reason I don't have any DeWalt cordless is I just didn't like the ergonomics.

Oh and this got dropped off as well, Snap-on tool cart hinges, not sure if it really falls into the category of a tool, but I’ll post it anyway. Snap-Ons site said it was backordered so i was surprised to see it so soon seeing as how i ordered last week. Now i just need to go buy the tool cart to put them on

I wanted the German style satin finish with a knurled band on the sockets, but didn't want to pay Hazet/Gedore level prices. Lots of digging around online and I found what I was looking for. Sockets appear to have a great finish on them and they are made in Taiwan. The extensions have a poor finish but the knurling is good, these are made in China.

I couldn't care less where they were made as long as they last and perform. There are no markings on the tool, but all my googling indicates made in germany.

No. Having the size markings means you will surely get frustrated if you see empty spaces and you will want to fill them up even if those sizes are not used most of the time.

I bought the socket organizers because I now have a toolbox on a workbench and two Lista cabinets and when I work on a car I tend to walk all around the garage for tools.
I only repair BMW cars, so I know exactly what I use on a daily basis. So I also bought a rolling tool cart which I want to fill up with my most used tools.
The socket organizers will not be used only for sockets but also for most used bits, like 1/4 T20, 1/4 T25, 1/4 T30 and so on.
It's very useful to be able to have all your most used tools on hand, next to the car. We all have the habit to buy a lot of tools and it's not efficient to browse through them to find a certain tool.
My setup will be ok for me, not for someone who works on multiple brands.

Mam, these things are pretty!

I used mine today for the first time, now granted my old cheap work force ones were never good from the start but man these things cut so smooth and effortlessly, i was just cutting some 12-2 jacketed speaker wire but it felt like hot cheese. Just to make sure it wasn’t new tool blinders i cut some zip ties and a few other things and yep it’s 100% the tool they cut great.

They are from Draper tools in the UK. I was going to buy the OEM tools ones but they don't have as complete sets in the 1/2 drive.

Harbor freight sells a set of knurled satin finish sockets

Decided to upgrade my little delta drill press to a bigger bench top model. Settled on a Bailegh based on specs and the fact I don't live far from them so I could go see it first. It's big, 40" tall for a bench top. I had to cut my shelf out to fit. That involved unbolting the bench from the floor to move the bench down 3" to clear the shelf bracket. Hopefully this works good. I like the chuck being just below face level.
