Just ordered the craftsman 299 socket set. Its every socket craftsman makes.
It was $480 bucks and on sale for $399. I had a few gift cards laying around so i decided to order it, when i got online and added to the cart, it was $339! Then my wife found a $25 online coupon and with the gift cards, and free shipping, total came to $230!

That's a whole lot of sockets, what are you up to? Great price, but I'd like to see them add one more piece to make it an even 300.

It seems like so many sockets but really it's not, but at 77 cents a pop you can't beat it.

Your UPS guy is going to love you, order a couple boxes of lead if he gives you any ****.

seems like a lot less when you show it in half a drawer. That's really 299? I didn't count

299 seems like a lot, but really, its a starter set by GJ standards. I just counted my 3/8 & 1/4 drawer and I have over 270 in that one alone. Add the 1/2 and 3/4 drive and i'm sure we'll be well over 400.... and I think I have a relatively small set compared to some of the members here.

Alright then, your hired (unpaid apprentice status), I have several more drawers and some boxes that you can count and inventory for me. I started to count them and got bored and gave up after 10.

LOL Mickey SWMBO used to work retail and showed me how to count change :D. The same system can be applied to tools just count more than one at a time . I just use the pointer on the mouse on the laptop pretty quick actually .

I can't believe you counted those, how many here:

Without blowing up the picture or knowing what was hidden from view, I counted 399. There are some in the blue rack I think are there, but can't actually be seen in the photo. I didn't count those. :)

Impala - I love those old school socket trays. Not very efficient compared to today's Hansen's and other storage systems, but the nostalgia is definitely there.

Funny you should mention the Hansen trays, I just picked some up and resold them. I didn't like them they took up to much space for my liking. I like the idea of them and if I had one of those huge boxes I'd probably have kept them, here's my pic that I put on craigs list just last week.

+1, I bought the red and gray from MSC and the black from Sears for impacts, they take up too much space and don't include all sizes, such as leaving out 1-3/16" in the 1/2" drive.

Does anyone know if the sockets in this set have laser etched markings only or are they stamped as well?

they should be dual marked, both laser and stamped. The catalog i got the number from and originally found them for $399 said DUAL MARKED..... but i never noticed that the title on the website said EASY READ..... i may be a little mad if they are only laser etched. I LOVE the laser etching cause its easy to read but the stamp in nice as well!.

Mine shipped out today so i can let you know in a few days once i have them in hand.
