Recently I made the switch to Makita. I’ve been looking on Offer-up, Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist. I came across an add yesterday and jumped at it!! I got a Makita 1/2 Brushless Impact Driver and two 3 hour batteries for $140! The thing looks brand new. She said her husband won them at a raffle.

Well this was an unexpected Monday evening win!

Spotted a post on Gumtree (UK Craigslist) for a Hitachi mitre saw.
Described as working but faulty switch.

Well for £10 I can live without the plastic trigger piece!

I'll probably just whittle a wooden replacement and glue it in place.
Otherwise a good clean and I'm happy! View attachment 854553DSC_1134.jpgView attachment 854554

Digging through the pile netted me this 15mm US Craftsman as well. I don’t remember if my set includes a US made 15 or not...

Weekend ended well.

Started out with an estate sale that was 95% HF, and priced at 90+% of new. Walked out of there with nothing, debated on going back on the last day for consumables but got busy.

Then saw the 6D grey/red that WagonHo posted in the grey/red Craftsman thread, and messaged the Guy about picking up today. Last night he let me know it had sold.

But all of that was trying to balance out the find I got today. Saw the ad go up on Fri/Sat, by Sun evening he dropped the price over $100, and met him this morning to get the stuff. Turns out next months rent is due tomorrow so he Harold get this stuff gone.

Ended up with the following:

A 4' wide/4' tall Vidmar, 6 drawer. One of the missing handles is detached.

A workbench with a cabinet and four drawers, looks kind of like Lyons? Art deco fronts to the drawers. Inside is a mt2 albrecht, a few lathe wrenches, a couple of cutters/holders. Top is end grain pieces.

And...a 8' long Pressweld workbench! The bottom edges need straightening, and I am not sure if the built in outlets work, but the condition overall is amazing! Drawers on one side, with sliding panels under the rest.

Also got a vintage drill size chart with tap info, a couple of vintage walkies, a magnify light, a delta jetloc fence and a double handful of clecos. Along with an engineered something that seems to be for wood lathe carving along a spiral. Pics with flash are in my garage, lighter washed out ones are from the ad.

And since he needed to get them gone today, the overall price for all this vintage goodness was...

$175 for everything!00X0X_a1UifYQwptb_600x450.jpegIMG_20190121_190810997.jpeg00v0v_4i3ILTMQ0bC_600x450.jpeg00808_2idX1y5i5uE_600x450.jpegIMG_20190121_190750464.jpgIMG_20190121_190856833.jpeg

Hey ! I just noticed you posted a pressteel tool bench ! I know they existed but don’t know anyone who has one. Could you post that in my pressteel thread ? I am trying to document different types of pressteel metal and my thread is an ever evolving one that anyone can post to! Link below. Very nice pickup!

Not nearly as thrilling as some of the stuff you guys are finding (although its great fun watching your successes!) but I enjoyed picking up this Diamond Calk Horseshoe 8" adjustable for 2 bucks today. I'd never heard of them before today but after a bit of research I'm thinking these are pre-1958 when they dropped the "Calk" from the company name.

I grew up using my dad's Diamond Calk adjustables. Not often, Dad drilled it into me on using the right size wrench/socket...

Same here , Outlaw. I almost never use an adjustable but I ALWAYS have one whenever I visit the salvage yard. It's saved me more than once.

Good use case. I have a blue denim tool roll I take to yards and such with what is hopefully all the basics, but a couple of adjustables "just in case"

Well, finally have something to show for this year

Craftsman 506-51801 vice in great working condition
3 saws (have to decipher what's written in the circles after cleaning)
4 wrenches (I am looking for cleaning PLVMB 5/8-9/16 3030 - first PLVMB wrench for me)
3 screwdrivers (no name and Stanley)
Stanley chisel
Craftsman 47402 lug nut wrench (did not fit the picture)
6 small files
some drills
bunch of allen wrenches

... spent around $4.5 for gas. PO was a nice gentleman. He told me he asked around, but nobody was interested in the tools...

Hit an estate sale today that was advertising woodworking tools amongst other stuff I was less interested in. A lot of folks from their neighborhood who knew the man and his wife as collectors. Got a couple of interesting items...$2 ea for the clamps (these will go to my son), $1 for the Red Devil - Jak-Nife, $1 for the filet knife (I can't tell what brand, but looks like it says Stainless Finland on the blade after the first two words), thought the solid copper mug for $2 was interesting (made by West Bend, anyone know when this would have been made? 60s? 70s?). The Stanley #102 block plane was $4. Not really of much interest and I doubt it'll ever become a user but I didn't have one and I went to this sale hoping there would be some planes worth buying. I probably should have left it there but at $4 no big deal. The Currier & Ives themed tin has turned wooden acorns and possibly some buckeyes? in it. That was $10 but it'll go to either the wife or the daughter. One of them will love it.

TXLonghorn, the copper mug for $2 was a steal, perfect for a Moscow Mule.

The filet knife might be a Rapala.

I was just in the building that was prob built in today. Actually I was there and in the old Mack truck plant today.both are shadows of their former selves. Part of WT is condemned to th point we won’t go inside at all to get trespassers.

Honey,
Have you seen my Fukung pliers......
"Talk to me like that again & no soup for you!"

I picked these up as part of an estate buy out package.
Fella was 91 & sold used cars most of his life.
Thought maybe they were part of an import tool kit.
Anyone recognize the name?

that pattern on the handles is patented and someone recently attributed it... I will try to look. I remember it being called xxxxx and dot pattern but can't seem to find it now.

Crescent. Checker-Dot.

A pair of "Fukung" pliers showed up last year, too, and someone made the same joke, but whoever that was never showed the handle. Interesting. Trying to imagine how an off-shore mfgr (assuming "Fukung" is Asian) is using a Crescent checker-dot pattern. Ownership or licensing, I suppose.

Or just copied. Maybe blissfully unaware that the pattern is proprietary.

True, unless it's renewed. And I assumed those were vintage, not new-ish/modern. That would explain everything.

I don’t watch much TV so I am probably late to this, but have you guys seen the new GEICO “Yard Sale” commercial?! It’s pretty funny. Link here.

A design patent cannot be renewed. Furthermore, if the design was also copyrighted, that too, has expired. (All works published in the USA prior to 1923 are now in the public domain.)

A few days ago, I reached out to a fellow I contacted thru CL last year. I ended up buying 5 Stanley planes from him last year but I recalled that he still had a few other planes he was willing to sell. Today, I picked up this Stanley #8C plane. It isn't a showroom piece but it will be a very good user for me. He was confident it is a type 11. The original blade has the Stanley V-shaped logo from New Britain Conn. I got the two additional NOS Stanley blades with it for $10 each. Both have the original bevel and have certainly never been sharpened and likely never used. They have the Stanley trademark of the period and Pat Apl 19 92 (1892). Invested $60 in all today. Fyi, this fellow is a master carpenter by trade and used these in his work for decades. In the interest of efficiency he decided he had to start using power tools and he would rather these weren't just sitting on a shelf in his shop. I'm a happy camper.

Been needing a stubby ratcheting screwdriver a while now. I'm partial to Snap-on/Williams, so when I found this for a decent price on eBay I grabbed it.

Works great, handle looks like it had some sort of solvent spilled on it in the past, as it is stained and there are partial fingerprints etched into the handle. Lettering mostly intact, however.

Snap-on SSDMR1. A quick googling shows most as SSDMR1A, what was the 'A' revision?
Also, handle is marked PATENT PENDING. There is no date code stamped in the shank like my others. Is this an earlier version?

I had a half day at work so I did some exploring. First stop was an estate sale a couple miles from me. The guy was a car guy, but the tools were all pretty low quality so I didn't grab much. Just got a small container of razor blades for $1 and four Craftsman WF punches/chisels for a whopping $0.15 each. They look like they've never been used. They're in such good shape I think I'd feel guilty using them.

Next stop was my favorite pawn shop. I spent about 45 minutes digging through the sockets. Here's what I ended up with. $12 for everything. Also included in the lot was a 19/32" + 11/16" Blue Point offset DBE. It's not pictured because it's taking a little de rusting bath. :)

Last stop of the day was a pawn shop I'd never been to. They had a large selection, but the guy at the counter was looking up part numbers on Ebay to price the sockets out individually when I brought a handful to the counter. :shocking: I ended up paying $15 for this bunch, which was probably overpaying. I don't know if I'll go back there. Here's the lot

Blackhawk 30022 3/8" drive 11/16" 12 point
Blackhawk 34015M 3/8" drive 15MM 12 point
Blackhawk 32011M 3/8" drive 11MM 6 point
