Why are they worthless? Do they not fit fasteners or drive tools? Are they made of cheese?

Small standard and large metric? Odd combo.

Not really worthless just an odd combo.

Who the **** has ever needed a 5/16", deep, 1/2" drive impact socket?

I guess it's just about the quickest way to snap the fastener clean off, if that's your goal.

Then again, I've experienced a few of those low-dollar discount store 1/2" drive impact guns and there's no danger of snapping anything...

You should recommend these in the thread where the guy wants smooth, stamped impact sockets. :lol_hitti

With 14, 17, 19, and 21 you just need to add a 10 and a 12 and you could take apart 98% of a Toyota.

I had an early set of HF deep well 1/2" drive metric impact socket that would almost break if I looked at them wrong. They had less than 0.020" wall thickness at the six corner points. The 19mm was the first to go, over half followed suit in short order. They did take them back and the replacements were far better, but still not great.

That set was one of the choices from the Craftsman BS motor rating air compressor lawsuit settlement. Ask me how I know...

They were at least cheap though back then everything was really cheap. There really were some dirt cheap tools back then. I remember getting a 3/4 inch socket set from a Cummins truck sale for $19.99. I still have the Taiwanese laser etched “Cummins professional” impact set. Harbor Freight was the same lots of really really cheap but questionable quality. I’ve still got some stuff that was worth it though, heavy duty ratcheting offset wrenches for one.

I don't know about a set, but those Gator Grip sockets were a total joke! I didn't get suckered into that thing only once but twice! :tard:

I remember getting a harbor freight knockoff of a gator grip that was better than the actual Gator Grip one. I think they only thing I did with it was take off stuck wingnuts like they show in the tv commercials.

I have a Porter Cable (also Devilbiss) "6hp" belt drive compressor and I think I remember that set as one of the settlement options. I chose the 3/8" air ratchet and it's still running good for what it is.

That set serves as a reminder how gawdawful cheap tools were a few years back.

I mean, nowadays you can waltz into any Wally World at 3am and find Chinese-made stuff that... honestly ain't too bad.

Ten or 20 years ago, that **** was all downright dangerous. Last year I finally purged the last of the dreadful K-mart krapola I bought when I was a penniless college student.

Exactly right. An up-and-coming toolmaker (e.g., Tekton) should make a "Toyota set" with those six sizes. My guess is you could take apart just about any Japanese vehicle with that set.

Bench top Pro from Kmart wasn’t too bad towards the end of the line when they were clearing them out, I have a set of their wobble extensions and they’ve lasted fine for the times I’ve used them.

I have that set. It came from the DeVilbiss class action lawsuit a few years back. They over-rated a bunch of compressors in their advertising, and if you joined the suit, you got a bunch of junk, those included. I'm still working on the 10 rolls of teflon tape. Never did use the sockets. I guess I could put them at my shop press.

Edit, on seond thought, I'd be worried about the Chinesium exploding in my face. They'll go in the tackle box instead for sinkers.
