Congrats on that plane, TXL, and the price.

Thanks LS.

For those that might care, I was doing a little research this evening. The plane does appear to be an early type 11 #8C. It has the two patent dates on the body of a type 10 (1907-1909) along with the frog adjustment screw but other features of a type 11. The NOS plane blades appear to be even earlier type 6 (1888-1892) blades. :)

I had a half day at work so I did some exploring.

Last stop of the day was a pawn shop I'd never been to. They had a large selection, but the guy at the counter was looking up part numbers on Ebay to price the sockets out individually when I brought a handful to the counter. :shocking: I ended up paying $15 for this bunch, which was probably overpaying. I don't know if I'll go back there. Here's the lot

Blackhawk 30022 3/8" drive 11/16" 12 point
Blackhawk 34015M 3/8" drive 15MM 12 point
Blackhawk 32011M 3/8" drive 11MM 6 point

S-K 40704 1/4 drive 6MM 6 point
S-K 316 3/8" drive 16MM 6 point

Snap-on TW161 1/2" drive 1/2" 6 point

That's some bs. There is one nice, clean, modern looking lawn shop near me that proves everything based off ebay and will tell you so. I only go there because the kids like to look around and they have free popcorn. Every once in a while you can get them to pop 20-30% off the price of it's been sitting a while.

I only go to the ones with reasonableprices. Most of those sell sockets for .25 or .50 regardless of brand.

The big football had a bunch of toys in it, but I'm going to give it to my son, who is moving out of the house and into an apartment with two buddies in February. I think it will make a great cooler for Sunday afternoons! :)

I plan to use the shallow box with glass lift-top for some of my more expensive and rarer items in a big yard sale I will have this spring.

Pair of Indestro Super-Quality tappet wrenches, a much older Indestro auto-kit type pressed steel wrench that I need to complete that set, a Bonney -ZENEL- ignition wrench, and an unmarked 1/4-3/8 adapter. Not sure what it goes to, but I never leave drive plugs, adapters, or cross-bars behind.

Found these in a van next to a truck I was pulling apart in the Pick A Part.

No name 14mm (going in the giveaway/handout box)

And a cheap bottle opener. That’s getting hung up in the shop for sure after a bit of polishing....

Got both for the princely sum of NADA.

Today was a swing and a miss. Stopped at an estate sale and they had some interesting old tools. Problem was they were priced at todays gold market price. Even at half price I would not be able to justify buying. At least it was a nice day to be out and about.

I think your bottle opener is really half of a window sash lock.

Haha! Hey, one man's bottle opener is another man's......well, have you seen how many ways there are to open a bottle?!

Yeah, been there! Only I left them on the counter and walked out. If he wants Ebay prices, then he should go through the sorting process and list them himself!

Exactly!

I didn’t post it as a de facto bottle opener. I posted it as what MY intended purpose for it was Hahahaha

I guess I should have been more clear...

We went with some friends to three estate sales today. They each had something to offer although the whole day seemed heavy on Craftsman to me. The first sale had a few worthwhile items and I left behind a fairly complete Fleet 1/2” drive socket set. I did get a complete with holder Indestro DOE set. The highlight for me from the second sale was a cool drill index. The third sale had plenty of Craftsman including metric wrenches and sockets in an S-K box. The screwdriver is Stiletto and the Imperial wrenches look like 360 degree flare wrenches.

Looks like the last occupant was a vice, but this is probably a grinding stand. Please notice the welding job on the cast iron tray. Don't you have to braze cast iron?
View media item 90105
Also scooped up this guy's left over screws. Came in this sweet compartment box that has scooped bins. Bigger shops always have some company supplying them with small parts. This was The Fullwell Motor Products Co.

Lugz, one of my best friends had the football toy box. That brings back memories.
When was that? I've never seen one before and I was wondering whether it was something recent or vintage. As soon as I saw it I immediately thought it would make a great Sunday afternoon beers chest, I was just hoping the vendor wasn't going to be an idiot - and he wasn't. $5! And he wouldn't let me dump the toys out, which I left for someone else near my truck. HAHA.

In the LEFT BEHIND category...

Here is something you don't ever expect to see at a flea market! :shocking:

They were TV show props. See the winch to the left of them? Also a prop.

And I have no idea what these are. The nomenclature on the masks is Slavic (rough translation is Civilian Protection Kit), but the packaging had warnings about the plastic in English, French, and Spanish. My best guess is Coalition surplus from Bosnia, but I don't get the packaging. The weirdest sh*t shows up at my flea markets sometimes...

I've seen old (real) tombstones for sale like that. People use them for flagstone walks. Freaked my sister-in-law out when she flipped one over in her yard and had markings on it. Apparently some people like to replace old and worn ones.

Little Tikes is the brand. I knew him since ‘90 but the boxes can go back to the 70’s according to the web. Probably a date on the back or bottom if it’s like other toys.

Thought I would show a few of my finds in the deep south since the first of the year.
Most everyone is aware that many of the Sears home stores are going out of business. The one closest to me had been advertising a clearance sale for about a month. This particular store had been at this location for over 20 years. I finally stopped by there one day as I returned from a bust day at the local flea to ask if they had any older ratchet rebuild kits that they were interested in selling. I went in and asked the lady at the front counter " This may seem to be a strange question, but, did you ever rebuilt ratchets for people?" She said 'I think that we used to, but not as long as I have been here." She went to the owner, another lady (who is a friend of my wife's) and asked her. The owner said "Yes, we used to do that." I then asked her if they had any of the kits left. She said "Sure, there is a box full in the back.":shocking: I asked if she was interested in selling them, and she said "I guess so."
We then went to the back and she showed me the box. It was FULL of kits.
I asked her what she wanted for them and she said "I don't know, how about $20 ?" I said "That isn't enough, I will give you $100." She said "REALLY?" I said "Yes, I will just need to go get the money." I went back home and told my wife and she was excited also . Here are some pics of the box and some of the kits.

There were 156 kits, about 90 were for American made ratchets. There were also some kits for china made flex handles.

This was about three weeks ago, I still can't believe it.

Second week of 2019. Spent $4. An American made Allen ratchet.(Didn't work, thought I would try one of the Craftsman kits because of the similarity. Only lubed it, now it works). And an Excelite 99 driver handle. I have probably 30 of these bits to fit this handle.

Don, great finds! I need one more of the smaller imperial flip ratchet wrenches and I'll call it a full set (despite having a 15/16ths beyond the rest...) I have them in a Klein wrench roll for now. And the Drill index is great! I have one like it I'm doing to de-rust, paint and use on my in the house workbench.

DFA

GREAT Stand! and most would braze cast back in the day, but it can be welded as well if the technique adn fil rod is right.

OP
OMG! you ****! less than a buck each? And you could have been at close to 10 cents each!

Outlaw,
Yep, but I couldn't do it. Beside the fact I would have felt as if I was stealing, this lady has been taken advantage of by Sears. Still can't believe how they treated these Home Store owners.

REMEMBER Always ask, it just might be the right time for you. In this case, it was for me...

Those are a Yugoslavian "personal protection kit" with a gas mask, filter poncho and wipes. I found a video:

Those bags are great for putting random **** in like tools, first aid stuff, bug out kit, etc. How much did they want for them?

That is an awesome find. Do any of the kits have the little tool that holds the ball bearing in?

Agreed. Unfortunately, too much, and he wouldn't sell the bag without the kit. I think he may change his mind by Sunday though. :)

Thanks everyone! (My first YS!) :)
Netbrad, the tool for holding the little ball wasn't included. The only tools I got were about 15 non-working ratchets she had laying around (two were 3/8 RHFTs), and a bottle of ratchet lube. I made myself a tool to hold the ball in a while back, works OK.

There's a lot of surplus stuff from Eastern Europe and the former Baltic states that gets imported. I see it at gun shows every once in a while and its readily available online. I would be interested in knowing how much the whole kit was. The gas mask would be great for a Halloween costume.

Great score! I did something similar, one of the local Sears stores that was closing put the rebuild kits out for a buck each. I sorted through them for the USA and Taiwan kits only, didn't want the China ones. Ended up with 99 kits, some were even RHFT kits.

What was the ratchet lube? The instructions called for 30 weight engine oil which is what I have been using.

$60 offer up deal for all tools pictured. They were filthy came with 1 tote and also a black and decker plug in drill and a no name impact gun and socket. Also a lot of drill bits not pictured. Guy met me in a parking lot and quickly sped off with cash in hand. Said his dad fixed lawn mowers and is too old to use these anymore. I asked if tools were craftsmen made in USA or other USA tools. He said there were a lot of Craftsmen, he lied, total of 4 sockets and 1 wrench. However, there were a few gems in this lot. 1 Snap on 14mm wrench, set of Fuller made in Japan, S-K wrenches, 1 Plvmb wrench. NTK wrench. I have a large set of Blackhawk and Autocraft USA sockets. Ton of stanley and drop forged made in Taiwan sockets, wrenches and ratchets. Blue pail is the made in mainland China stuff that is waiting for $20 buyer to meet me and get out of the house.

Questions
Is all Stanley Crv stuff made in Taiwan? There are no markings on any of my wrenches or sockets other than Crv and Stanley.
I am going to sell the 1 piece items like Proto Spark plug socket, Mac tools 10mm, Snap on 14mm wrench, Craftsmen USA stuff. Best place to sell on here? Ebay? Is there any value in drop forged made in Taiwan and Stanley tools?
Thanks in advance. If anyone is looking to complete a set let me know.

Oh quick update on the Hitachi mitresaw from Monday night.
Spent some time cleaning it up this morning and sanded back the deck to remove some glue and scratches.
(before/after images below)

Good as new and and Hitachi still stock spares for all the parts so a new trigger is on order for just £5.DSC_1134.jpgView attachment 856590

Just got back from an estate sale of a former small engine Mechanic and
I got this Stihl for $40. I didn't know how good it was until I got it home.
I thought it was a 041 not a 041G. It is covered in years of dust and grime but should clean up nice. I also got a ton of old NOS parts.

Good luck, fowldarr!

The big sale SWMBO and I hit last weekend was open again for half price day today. SWMBO had to work, so I hit it solo.

My number 20 minutes before opening was a bit better than last week--I got in in the first 15 min.

Much was gone but I still found some goodies for $30:

65 lbs of Oil-Dri floor absorbent
3000-count box of Spotnail collated coated head 3-1/2" framing nails
5000-count box of Grip Rite 2-3/8" collated coated ring nails
1940s Studebaker hubcap--good wall art for the garage!
Ford power antenna--for daughter's Malibu (if it works)
2 4.5" Hager door hinges--project fodder
Raw cast horse coat hook--Mother's Day gift for OSWMBO
Malco metal crimpers
Blue Point AT400A pneumatic orbital sander
Deboer short bed rail substitute--didn't know what they were when I found them
Forged 4" c-clamp
1951-vintage Carter carburetor factory literature
Bray 1003 gear puller--now I'll finally have a puller that's big enough
100-ft of 12-3 neoprene extension cord--this I found in a pile in the attic. As I gathered it up, I found the male end disappeared down into a wall space. A couple of hard tugs brought up the far end sans plug. Fortunately, I have a spare in the stash.

Another nearby sale had no line at opening, and I picked up a few more items for another $15:

Complete Vlchek combo wrench roll--7/16" thru 3/4"
Cummins drill powered circular saw--didnt know what this was until I got it home. All I can say is "Yikes!"
Six padlocks (Reese, Yale, Eagle & Ilco)--all with working keys!
Jacob's No 3 chuck key--been needing one since I misplaced the one I bought for my big Craftsman
Fuller dikes
No name nail pry
2 X-acto & 1 Grifhold craft knives
5 B&C 141 c-clamps
6" & 8" Hecsharp adjustable wrenches--one stamped "West Germany"
4" Proto adjustable
Columbian No D53 1/2 "Pennypincher" vise, 3-3/4" jaws
