ALL: I was out of town with my bride celebrating our 31st anniversary and we stopped at a little antique mall where there are a bunch of small venders set up in there showing their wares in 5x5 spaces (a few are 10x10's). the PNW version of a flea market I guess since I can't recall us having any in years.

this one is usually overpriced cause its in the middle of a touristy town on the Oregon Coast, but weren't we talking about the glass lawyer's bookcases being a bit spendy. there were 4 venders with these and all were in the same price range as this one for 4 and 5 drawer versions.

If I had my Honda Pilot or we didn't have luggage filling filling up her CRV I might have been tempted to buy this metal cabinet with drawers that had metal front and wood frames for $165. do I NEED another organizer cabinet (probably not), but it was one I haven't seen before.

keep up the great work guys and sounds like you are playing tag teams at some of the sales. GJ HATS maybe in SNAP ON Extreme Green color and vise pic for color only cause I don't own this one. I don't usually paint my old tools, but this green is tempting especially as my vision gets worse as i'm getting older.

So I looked back in my records, and not counting a couple of personal buys and an antique/junk shop, yesterday ended a 40 day drought on Yard/Garage/Estate sales! :shocking:

:rocker::bounce::beer::3gears:

Nothing for today so far however except I'm trying to get hooked up with a guy on CL. :dunno:

ON, that converted Ammo dump is AWESOME!

Drives, next time you are at that Mall, I'm betting so are the Lawyers cases. Just sayin...

That blue case looks like wood? Maybe OK for light collectibles, possibly comic books if they fit, but I wouldn't use that for heavy tools.fasteners/supplies.

On the Way back from the "Bunkers" I hit my regular Car Boot and even with the wind, hit it nicely..

>Shop made machine vice - £1.50
>Chrome Record Junior 2" G-Clamp - £1
>UK made Parallel Jaw pliers - £1
> P. Lowentraut Mfg&Co. , Newark NJ, USA, Callipers - £1

(quick Google suggests these are pre-1920 as company folded around then, Any more info GJ?)

>French DELAINE binoculars and case - £5

SCORE OF THE DAY!
After the Mitre Saw at the start of the week I said the only thing I'd want to "finish" my practical power tool setup would be a little router...but that'll take time....

>BOSCH POF 400A router and 13 x BOSCH bits (most still stapled in their packets) - £20
DSC_1147.jpg

:bounce::bounce::bounce:

I'd have been happy with just a no name china router for £20 never mind the bits!!! Some of the packets have thier original prices on £7.00, £8.99, £4.

I fancy I'm in for some bad luck this week because I've been on a roll so far :headscrat
Anyhow hope you are all having a successful Sunday out there!

Outlaw: you'd be surprised what stuff sells for (JUST SAYING!!) up here in the land of Microsoft, Amazon and Google. it's damn hard for me to find something in my budget that is for certain.

as far as the blue cabinet it's built like a tank with metal framing and drawer's frames that are beefed up with 3/4 inch real wood. I wouldn't be afraid to put maybe close to 1000 pounds of stuff in that one hence me liking it. didn't like it enough to ask my bride to have it ride with us the next 400 miles though.

OK Guyz and Gals I woke up to snow this morning(only a few inches but still had to shovel/get snowblower ready for more this week) and was thankful my FB seller contacted me last night. While I was out shoveling I managed to grab a couple pics of this in the back of my truck:

The plan is to clean it up a bit and then most likely off to the 'bay.

Only two things again today, but quality over quantity.

"Money for old rope," as the British say, and the 25' length of vintage 3-strand manila will be turned into a WWII Jeep bumper tow rope with two eye splices. I will turn $5 into $45 there.

The brass canister with the threaded brass lid with ears for opening and closing is from a ship. Those things inside (see Pics 3, 4 & 5) are old pull-type signal fusees/flares with wooden handles. All sealed up with some kind of lacquer, all marked the same: Jackson's Superior Ship Signal and Jackson's & Sons, Inc., Bristol, Pa..

Great score! I did something similar, one of the local Sears stores that was closing put the rebuild kits out for a buck each. I sorted through them for the USA and Taiwan kits only, didn't want the China ones. Ended up with 99 kits, some were even RHFT kits.

What was the ratchet lube? The instructions called for 30 weight engine oil which is what I have been using.

Did you find any 1/4 drive rhft kits ? I need a couple or at least the main body of the rhft with the gears and the selector. My detent ball is not working.

Good Morning!
New to this particular group, but have been on the Journal for a while....
A little background, lived in IL for decades, remarried, and we moved down to TN last yr.
Purchased a neat house on the top of a mountain in TN

When moving out of IL, did a couple of estate sales that were basically useless....
Sold my truck, trailer, ladders, and a lot of big stuff as I didn't have the storage down in TN and already had 2 storage units full.

Remember that we are on the top of a mountain! The property IS NOT FLAT, do doing any work around the property is a challenge. I started out looking at getting a UTV, but that fell out of challenge due to our grade, then looked at 4WD ATV but those would handle what I needed to handle. So I started to look at Bobcats.

There were a lot of BC available in TN, however they were really beat up and lots of hours on them.

Fast forward to a week back in IL. I'm looking at CL back in IL, and there is a 443 Bobcat for sale. It's one of the smallest BC made, and will allow me to navigate our terain, as well as dig out under our large deck.

Remember i'm in N IL, I contacted the seller, turns out he is also in N IL. He required a deposit to hold the BC till I could look at it! (OR) he moves it back to IL on his nest trip!

Turns out the 443 is Smera TN, like less than 20 miles from where we moved to. Contacted a friend go over to look at the BC, and all Dennis could say over the phone was purchase it.

So we returned back to TN the following week, and the 443 owner the following week. When we were back in IL, he offered to deliver the BC for a case a beer. So the following weekend, my wallet was lighter as I turned over $8K for a 443 Bobcat, with 542 hours, winter curtains, and thine attachment!

Everyone couldn't believe that we live in TN, was "vacationing" back in IL, found a low mileage BC in Lake in Hills, IL, however it was currently down in TN and rather close to where were are living. And the owner delivered it!

Since the purchase, I've put 100 hrs on the BC. I'm elated as I haven't had to pickup or move anything manually. So i'm a happy camper.

Welcome, Al! We like purchases big and small, and yours is a biggun. What a remarkable coincidence on finding the Bobcat 29 min from your cross country future residence. I once bought a first gen hemi engine in Tampa, FL from Leavenworth, KS, knowing I'd be moving to Tampa in two weeks!

Post a few pictures of your Mountain Utility Vehicle when you get a chance

The Packer Auto "Ray" socket set is de-rusting.

Here is the rivet set and header. PEXTO No. 2. With an unfortunately large and ugly set of PO's initials. I only bought it because d42jeep has been collecting them and I can't let him be the only one!

Eight (8) of them - No. 00 through No. 6 - were issued to the Sheet Metal and Radiator Mechanics' Tool-Set in WWII. Don has a pretty big head start but the race is officially on now and I trust his integrity to not use eBay to win. :)
Are you going to grind the fugliness off?

Nice save on the 1870's court records WG; Somebody will be happy to preserve those, (and should...) are they local? do you have a local historical preservation group?

Yes lake county where i reside. Inside covers it reads, "microfiche d 9-71", like a 100 years after written. Don't know about any historical preservation groups yet.

Today’s flea market haul was pretty good. Craftsman 4” adjustable and vanadium doe, Proto LA and Williams ignition wrenches, Bridgeport and Handy Andy wood handled screwdrivers. And the prize of the day, a 3/4” Plomb ratchet! I’ve been wanting one since I got my first plomb ratchet. Now I just need to find a 1”... It’s amazing how many Plomb fans come up to you at the flea when you’re toting a giant ratchet.

Almost didn't go to this Moving, "everything must go" sale.
Usually when I read that in the advertizement, it means "priced to never sell".
But it was close, so I went. Glad I did.
At first it was meager Chinese girl tool kits, everything piled on top of stuff & it was dark so I got my flashlight & kept asking, "is there anything else.
This place was really run down with a lot of sheds with bad roofs.
I was about done & asked one more time, Is there anywhere else I can look at"?
"well, there's the garage"...........
Jackpot.
I got everything in the pics for $225.00
Lots of common small tools, yard tools, lots of Harbor Freight stuff, but also:
Werner MT-13 Folding Ladder
Westward 24" Cable shears, like new.
Coffing 3/4 ton chain hoist
A new to me shop fridge (2 case capacity)!
And this blue vise .........

Just when I thought my honey hole was drying up...

$1 each. I already have multiple 1/2” drive breaker bars, so this is a nice addition to my junkyard box.

Wrenches are going to get cleaned up and put in my backup box, or trail box. Not sure yet. Gonna have to go through both boxes again to see if these match any other sets/tools I have in either.

Spent the day in the junkyard again today, and found this broken Stanley screwdriver. Maybe going to sharpen it to a point and use it as an awl. If I don’t find a use for it and have to throw it away, no loss since it was free, right? Haha

Excellent posts today, folks! Wrenchguy's nearly 150 year old court records, Catfishdan's 3/4" Plomb ratchet and 3jakes' epic moving sale story and haul (complete with Wilton vise!)were perfect examples of what we do here and why.

Congrats to all who hit jackpots this weekend.
Mrs LS and I checked out the Diamond Fire Co flea market in Walnutport. Mrs LS bought a spoon stamped with a Philly area pie company, but I found nothing I wanted badly enough to reach for my wallet. I did look hard at a couple Stanley block planes, but they were rust-frozen and had several riveted components, so I doubted I could adequately derust them.
Stopped at an antiques shop in Slatington, and had a good look around, but again nothing jumped out at me. Spent the afternoon working on a couple projects.

Here's my Craiglist find from this weekend. First up are 55 Snap-on wrenches and a 1/4" GM70T ratchet. It's my first Snap-on ratchet. :) It's in good shape, but it's missing one screw. I'll have to talk to the Snap-on guy on Wednesday and see if I can buy a rebuild kit. This is the fourth 1/4" ratchet I've found lately. It seems to be the only size I find in the wild. Haha

46901385941_bb399f08e8_c.jpg

Also included were 23 other wrenches. The Majority are Proto, but there are also some Williams, Granco, Langline, Wilde, and Hi-Shear.

46901385381_4a82847562_c.jpg

Almost all of the wrenches had grinder marks on them. I found one wrench with a number that wasn't ground off. After some googling I found a PDF from 1986 titled "Air Force Warranted Hand Tool Program". This leads me to believe that these all used to be Air Force tools that were auctioned off at some point in time. There's a big Air Force base around here, so it makes sense. It also makes sense why there were duplicates of most of the wrenches.

46901384711_a60e9ff44e_c.jpg

I paid $125 for the lot. I've got a ton of duplicates, so I kept one of each wrench and I've got a lot leftover. I want to try and make some of the money back so everything in this last photo is up for grabs if anyone wants to buy or trade anything. :) Everything below the line is Snap-on, and the other brands are marked above. If you want better photos of anything, send me a PM.

Finally... A weekend off that's not raining or 10 degrees... I hit the flea both Saturday and Sunday and found a few interesting items.

Saturdays Haul

I dont see tons of vendors, but one thats always there, and is always the highest priced on everything is. Hes got the same Wilton C clamp I have been eyeballing for weeks. He's asking $10 for it. I start poking around and see some Yankee ratcheting drivers. I pick one up that I like the most and ask how much? He says $12 and I can have both it and the Clamp. I look back at the Driver and notice a small FORD script logon it. Deal.... I have never seen a Yankee driver with Ford logo... anyone? Moved on and found a couple small plomb wrenches and a modified Proto driver in the bottom of an old toolbox.

C Clamp:
Wilton

Driver:
Yankee no. 30 with Ford Logo
Ratchet driver
Proto wood handled modified
Grip it driver

Wrenches:
Proto LA combo
Plomb 8160 SJE BDE offset
Plomb ignition DOE
3 x Barcolo looking DOEs

Stopped at a small drag racers swap meet while coming home on a business trip. Ran into Rileysan and Oregon Rock Crusher while picking up the following:

MAC dbe and Bonney socket

Number size drill index

3" timber slick. This thing is huge! And I got a screaming deal on it, $40. It needs to be cleaned up, sharpened and the handle replaced, but they go for a lot more. And the best find:

1957 Bonney catalog. But no just that catalog. This thing is 2" thick with catalog goodness. Price lists, Bon-e-con catalog, Greenfield tap and die, Thor power tools, 40+ pages of Bonney tool boards with all part numbers:

A couple of specialty tool mfg. like Cal-Van, Kennedy Tools co., auto parts jobers and a Proto catalog from the same period:

I am guessing that it was some small auto parts distributor salesman catalog from the 50s, as there are also sales fliers from SK and a whole bunch of stuff in it. $20
It was a good day.
