I have to say that it's all about your insulation. My forge is made from a paint can. Ive heat treated about 20 knives in it, including normalizing procedures. That's a long time at extreme heat.

Hey all, has anyone heard anything from JuneBuggy in a while. I miss him.

I have been looking into large timber framing chisels and slicks and I wanted to see if he ever made any and if not if he knew of a good maker or two. I hope all is well and he is recovering well.

Cheers,
Jeremy

I'm not forging, just doing stock removal, but I'm pretty proud of this one. This is the first knife I've made (excluding the practice one using a piece of scrap steel - just to learn the process)
It is made of O-1 tool steel, and is sort of modeled after the ESEE 4. I just finished it last night:

I've got another knife with a little more detail in the metal work ready to finish next. I just have to decide what handle material I want to use.

I missed you too. It’s been what...2 years?
That’s a truly amazing knife.
How are you doing? I was hoping that the hazardous aspects of metalsmithing hadn’t gotten the best of you.

Beautiful work! I would be proud to own any one of the three knives. Just don't know if I could bring myself to use such a nice knife. Keep the pics coming.

JuneB: nice to see you are still amongst the living cause some of us thought maybe you retired to the golden blacksmith shop. your work is always amazing and thanks for sharing. the thread didn't seem to have any steam without you around so maybe it will get more now that you are back. WELCOME BACK!!

ALL: my son in law gave me this knife a friend of his made out of an old RR spike. since i have maybe 100 or so RR spikes maybe someday i'll try to attempt it or maybe supply the material for one of you handy guys so you can make us both one. I like it and it looks like a fair amount of time and energy was put into getting this one in this condition.

You fellas didn't add too much on this post while I was away...what's up with that? :bounce:

I think that's because you are posting what would be the equivalent of a full on ground up built 50s mercury hot rod and ours would be like a rusty 84 camaro! Beautiful work, you've got real talent!!!

Tried my hand at knife making a few years back, stock removal with 1095. Think I made 5 or 6 knives before most hobbies were pushed aside for raising the family...

These are knives #2 through #5. Second and third pics are matching knives I made for me and my father. The square sheath is a pocket sheath like a pocket holster I made so my old man could carry a fixed blade in his pocket. The third pic is a horizontal belt carry. I prefer to carry my blades horizontally.

Because we simply can't compare to the work you do.

I've got 4 more stock removal knives in process. Hopefully I'll have them finished up in the next few weeks.

Junebuggy , its great to see you posting again. Lot has gone on in two years . I went full time into knifemaking about a year and a half ago. That's not my leatherwork though. Buddy of mine is pretty talented with it so he gets to do the fancy stuff for me.

Haven't made any in awhile, but here's the last couple I did. I think they look better in person, these were crappy camera shots:

Looking back through the thread, I see that I never added the pictures of the second knife I made in the last round, a couple years ago.
8 3/4" overall:

There's a vine detail in the spine that wraps the entire way around the handle:

And here are two more that I just finished this week:
1. 7" overall; Inspired by the Spyderco “R” – C67
53716294_10100129678849950_2803427632018882560_n.jpg

2.7" overall; Inspired by the Whiteknuckler Brand WK
53660911_10100129678864920_2574021394241159168_n.jpg

I've got two more to finish with handles and sharpening.
