Concur on Barcalo, but I've seen that same teardrop hanging hole on Lawson pipe wrenches, too, and speculated at the time that perhaps they made them for Barcalo. They moved from Cleveland to Buffalo. Link here.

It's a very interesting history. I posted much more in a thread linked here.

Hey Lugz, forgot I had posted in that thread!
I think the hole on the Lawson pipe wrenches is slightly different. However I do have another 8" adjustable coming from eBay that looks very similar to the Wright I just posted and may shed some light on this. It is a Pexto Angle Adjustable.

Bottom feeding this morning and I'm happy. I paid $3 for all this.

Vaughn Tack Hammer
Plumb Hatchet
Miller Falls core router bit
Honing stone
Antique quick release "Grand Master Clamp" missing swivel pad
Various wooden handled screwdrivers
Two 6x6 pieces of old timber. And a 4x4.
Stubby auger bit
Formby's tung oil
Howard's Restor A Finish
Several boxes of vintage fasteners

The wood was a afterthought and I bought it for $1 after paying $2 for the tools and misc.

Bryan I agree with BB; cool clamp!

Surprisingly, I don't have a Grand Master clamp, and I have over 200 C Clamps alone!
Something to watch for!

I think I made five stops today, the first three were duds, but then again I wasn't expecting much from them. Forth stop was a wierd kinda estate sale, but they have them at this location a lot, so I don't know wat to call it. Then I stopped at a little flea market.
All told I spent about $35. Anyway, here is what I picked up:

Hinsdale, SK, Proto among other sockets, Snap-on swivels, Firestone speeder, Plomb and Snap-on DBE's, unmarked Pin handle, Proto adjustable, Armstrong DOE. But the majority of my money went to this:

Unused set of SK Wayne deep 1/2" for $20. I wasn't expecting much today, but it worked out pretty well.

Well couldn't pass these up.. Picked up this Proto adjustable 18" wrench for only $10 and snagged these Ridgid 2 1/2" - 4" heavy duty 4 wheel cutters for only $60!!!. I'm a pipe fitter by trade so these will be put to immediate use.

Antique quick release "Grand Master Clamp" .
Wow, that clamp's really cool!
Bryan I agree with BB; cool clamp!
It is cool. But you guys didn't mention the coolest part. What are the odds that the Grand mfgr who made a clamp with a quick set and release lever is the same Grand who made a vise with the quick set and release lever? They even gave it a clever name: the Quickcet. I don't have one or I'd post a pic. You could search on Grand and "Quickset" (always inevitably spelled wrong) on the GJ Mega Vise thread. I'd make that bet.

EDIT: I take that back. I'd WIN that bet! Check it out. Even the logo - Large "G" and "D" with smaller "RAND" in between - are the same. Pics here. That would be neat to have both the clamp and the vise!

Thanks for the information and link Lugz. Very interesting. The logo was the first thing to catch my eye. I will post a picture when I clean it up. Anyone know a good source for C clamp swivel pads?

Spend a nice day yesterday hitting 5 scheduled sales and 1 TOO.

I picked up a yard rake (not pictured) along with an interesting pair of pliers and 2 dividers.

The pliers are Bernard 119-6 sewing machine belt pliers. They are used to cut the leather belts to length and punch a hole for the metal clips. I no longer have a treadle base sewing machine so these go in the "curiosities" drawer.

The dividers are Stanley 41-007 (fixed length) and 41-017's (adjustable length).

Cheers

Jim

Now that you've found one, Bryan, it very likely that other GJGSTers will turn up three more, or one of the vises, in the next week. That's just how this thread works sometimes.

Bryan, that is definitely a you **** deal. I would have been thrilled to get the clamp alone for that price.

Mcmaster/Graninger should have them for that size. They don't have the smaller ones IIR.

Who knew?! A vise, a clamp, and a DOE wrench. Very cool. (No quick release on the DOE wrench though...)

Here is my very small haul from this morning's flea market.

attachment.php

The vintage Blackhawk swivel wrench is cool enough, but the other tool is in a whole ‘nother category of cool, in my book anyway.

It’s an XCEL Adjustable Socket Wrench made by Park Metalware of Orchard Park, NY, in 1927. (Yup, that Park. And yup, that name does sees similar to Xcelite for a reason!) I know these kinds of old funky tools don’t appeal to everyone, but finding two of them, two days in a row, is flying high for a collector like me. I will most definitely be starting a thread on it.

I've got nothing to show for two weekends now... Last weekend spotted the corner of a toolbox in an estate sale pic. Get there and no toolbox, owners took it with them. Friday drive 45 mins in -1 degree weather to get to a sale with black Craftsman box in the pic background. First one in the garage, three box black Craftsman and a big red Husky set-up against the wall on the side of the garage with yellow tape keeping people out and a sign - not for sale...........

If you're interested in seeing more photos and info on that c.1927 XCEL Adjustable Socket Wrench, link is here.

I also posted more photos and info on the c.1919 Blackhawk 516 1/2" Tee handle wrench on the Blackhawk thread, linked here.

Just returned from a 3-day venture north to pick up my white whale, a Plomb Toolmobile. Nothing foolish about driving 514 miles one way during a polar vortex to get a tool box right? I figured I may was well come home with a loaded truck. I did get the Toolmobile

P1.JPG

Also got what I suspect is the box that's lived its life atop the Toolmobile, an old Cornwell

IMG_3070.JPG

Picked up a nice 3 pc gray/red stack. Both the 10 drawer chest and 9 drawer bottom are dated '68

68 stack.JPG

The seller of the C-Man stack was a GJ member and graciously gifted me a damned cool Wright set in a Wright marked box. Rough shape but she'll clean up well. The Wright tappet wrenches are from another stop. I have dupes of the Q14 and Q16 tappet wrenches, if you need em they're yours.

Wright 1.jpg

Did initial sorting of all the hand tools this AM. Most represented brand is Vlchek which I'm rapidly growing fond of. Did decent in the Craftsman line with a 3 drawer Heritage chest, a good start on Circle U 1/2" drive, nearly complete Circle U 1/4" drive and one lonely Long C DBE. Found some interesting Mac stuff, a good smattering of Snap On (none of it old) and the rest appears to be a mix of various US brands. I'm not into Mac or Snap On so if anybody is interested to see exactly what's in there let me know. I'll post the Craftsman stuff in another post as apparently I only have one more picture slot for this one so it'll be the initial sorting of the trips tool booty

And the last of the Operation Plomb Vortex trip, the Craftsman stuff. The box mentioned earlier, the Circle U stuff, a gen 1 raised panel 1/2 rat, 6 pc earlier MDF DBE wrench set, Easco made 3/4" drive rat, Crown logo soldering gun in original box, the lonely and needs some friends Long C DBE and a smattering of other stuff

Cman Haul.JPG

Something else that came home with me is this old Carter Carburator advertising piece. I love this stuff as Carter is my last name. This was also generously gifted to me by yet another GJ member

Carter.JPG

Despite the weather sucking, I had a blast. Met lots of nice people (and one meth head) and had fun scooping up tools. I may head to the midwest next time around

What a cool haul. Those tool boxes are awesome!

Here's the results of my weekend. I started off stopping by an estate sale close to home. I got there and the garage was nearly empty other than a few outboard motors and some tarps. No toolboxes in sight. I wandered around the house for a few minutes and managed to find a 3 pieces of Snap-on. A #1 phillips screwdriver, a pick, and a neat little key chain. $1 for everything.

32031673427_87dfff6045_c.jpg

There were a few other slightly interesting sales but they were pretty far away. Later in the day I stopped by one of those sales and I'm glad I did. I got there around 2PM and found some great stuff. Now I'm wondering what I missed out on if I would have gotten there when it opened at 10. :shocking:

I picked up a set of Blue-Point and Matco snap ring pliers, Matco spark plug gap gauge, a modified Snap-on stubby flat head, four Mac pick tools, two Matco pick tools (rebranded Witte picks), a new old stock 1/2 Mac ratchet head for a flex ratchet, a Mac 1/4 wrench, and a Cornwell wrench.

46248470414_e35915cf3d_c.jpg

I'm pretty sure the guy that owned the house used to be a tool truck owner. I got a bag filled with various torx and allen bits and some Mac and Matco punches. I think these bits are replacements that are meant to be pressed into sockets. If anyone needs some Mac torx bits, I've got a few spares. :)

46248470464_496cc59fe3_c.jpg

46059091505_5c806096c7_c.jpg

Also got two Matco BP hammers - a 12oz and a 48 oz, 40 Blackhawk sockets (mostly metric!), and a handful of SK, Matco, Thorsen, Mac, Plomb, Proto sockets.

Here's a picture of everything together. Best of all, I old paid $35 for everything pictured.

So, now we know what caused the Vortex! That is a lot of suckage right there!

(Really want a Cornwell top box, so nice.)

Thanks! Other than paint gone bad the Corny is in great condition and has both original keys. I'd trade ya for one of those Plomb 9990 Master Tool Chests you guys out in the Pacific Northwest hoard!

Is this a sign of cabin fever?

I have this CL buy Plomb box being shipped across the continent courtesy of a post on the Vintage toolbox thread.

No suckage here I more than doubled his asking to get him to ship, and still paid more in shipping than the box cost...

Here are my finds from today. Kalamazoo 4x36 Inch Belt Grinder and a large lot of Carbide Burrs. Paid $175 for the grinder and another $90 for the burrs.

Also on Saturday I called a wrecker and brought home the $175 '77 Ford F150. Can't wait to start working on it now! I think it will be the new Pickermobile.

I have one of those torx sockets and there's a set screw to retain the bit. I might actually need a spare--will check later as I don't remember the size.

EDIT: It's a T8, if you have a spare bit in your collection.

Looks like you guys are busy. Some nice scores.

Today I attended an auto swap meet as a vendor with Cbacres. Members Taumac and Glenn M. rounded out our crew. Had a great time. Sold a bunch and bought a bunch. Go figure. :lol_hitti

LUG: I actually have the GRAND QUICK RELEASE VISE & the BIG GRAND QUICK RELEASE CLAMP...
Haha. That figures! A nice duo. I admire the fact that they applied the same principle to two different clamping action tools. Also, I have a GRAND vise, but it's not a Quickcet and it doesn't have the quick release. It's a WWII vise with "STOCK NO. 41-V-104" forged-in.

Actually, I have a GranD Vise also, but it's a clamp on and rusted solid. It is a Quickcet

It needs a dunking in an E tank and probably Kroil as well...

I have one of those torx sockets and there's a set screw to retain the bit. I might actually need a spare--will check later as I don't remember the size.

What do those bits go to? A special socket or wrench?

PS: "NOT GUAR" SOs, inferior quality?

Are there different sizes of said bit-holding sockets?

(I see online plenty of Torx socket sets, but it doesn't look like the bits are made to come out of the socket.)

Good ones are replaceable. and yes usually is sets as no one wants to be switching bits...

Thanks.

The bits themselves: Are they sized like 1/4, 3/8, ect.?
Can you get an "empty" Torx socket?
Is there a standard, or would I need a MAC brand Torx socket to accept those MAC bits?
