Snap on wrenches, which set would you keep

I need the experts to weigh in.

I bought a brand new, in the package, OEXM713B, set off of craigslist the other day. 10mm to 22mm Flank drive combination wrenches. I also bought a set of 10mm to 19mm Flank drive plus wrenches that are lightly used off of ebay.

I really only need one set of wrenches. I do all my wrenching on motorcycles as well as my Honda car once in a while. These wrenches are replacing a set of 7mm to 18mm craftsman raised panel wrenches.

Which set would you keep? I could re-sell the whole OEXM713B set, or sell the 10 - 19mm FDP set, or sell the 10mm - 19mm Flank drive wrenches and keep the 20 - 22mm wrenches.

Thoughts? I know I'm thinking about this WAY too much, but it's winter, I'm bored, and what else do I have to do?!

I have read the other threads about FDP vs FD wrenches, I know that some like the FD wrenches due to not leaving marks on the fasteners as well as some thinking the FDP make too much noise :)

If I could not keep both sets I would keep the 10-22mm set. FD versus FDP is not a big issue to me but i would want to keep the set complete.

I say keep both! :-D You might want to use the regular open end to avoid possibly damaging a fastener, but then have the FDP for a really stuck fastener. Besides you can never have too many tools.

I've had both styles, and I got rid of my FDP. I get the idea of gripping a slightly rounded fastener, but frankly, I just don't see it. I've never really had a problem with detiorating bolts, except perhaps those copper exhaust bolts that came on older BMWs. And I am pretty much in the salt belt here.

On the other side of the coin, if you are working on a bike, where all the fasteners are exposed, and often chrome or stainless, I would think that the regular FD would do more to keep them looking good.

I'm with skyline onthis one. FDP wrenches tend to scar the finish on exposed nuts and bolts. It's not usually a problem with cars but motorcycles are a different story.

Sometimes you need two wrenches of the same size simultaneously, keep both sets.

+1 That happens on bikes more often than you think. If you are not hurting for cash don't sell either. Do you see a point in your life where you will be thankfull you got rid of some wrenches. I still have some 20+ year old raised panel Cmans that I never use but see no reason to sell.

You guys ****!

I was kind of leaning toward just keeping both but was hoping you all would say, sell this set! Now I may just have to keep both, for the reasons listed above, FDP is nice for somethings while FD is nice for others.

BTW, I'm not at a shortage for wrenches, if I keep both I'll be up to 4 sets of metric wrenches. I had 7-18mm 12 point Cman for my road kit, and a 7-18mm 6 point Cman for home.

Guess the SO FDP will probably be the new road kit and I'll stuff the Cman ones someplace else. I don't have box big enough for all these wrenches:)

By the time it's all said and done I should have a complete 7-26mm FD set. Already have 7-9, picking up 23,25, 26 tonight. Just need to find a 24mm FD wrench.

Four sets is WAY too many! Let me help you! Send the FDP set to me, and any other extra sets you may have, and I will dispose of them properly. Keep them all and there will be no denying that you have the sickness!:bounce:

I am at six metric sets currently, three cornwell, two mac, and a matco. Way beyond any needs I have but I cannot get myself to sell them. Too much time around here.

Just to offer another option, I would keep the 3 large wrenches and sell the other two sets on ebay. Then I would buy these:

http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...group_ID=17480&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

It's the best wrench I have ever used, I only wish they were available in the larger sizes. I demoed these for a couple of days and then bye-bye old sets except for one other backup set when needed for a two wrench operation as mentioned above.

I gotta go with keep 'em both. Having doubles of standard length combo wrenches is really nice. Almost a must in SAE if you do a lot of hydraulic repair/rebuild/assembly.

Doubles in metric is really nice too, but if you have to sell one set, keep the 21mm and 22mm for sure.

I currently have 9 or 10 metric sets. All different, need another 4 or 5 sets though to cover everything. :)

Then i'll get started on the imperial sets..

About the same but I have more imperial then metric since I work on alot of very old stuff.

You can never ever have to many wrench's keep them both, you will kick yourself later.
