After getting the 1/2” version of these and being impressed with it, these came up for $10 a piece. 1/4” needs to be taken apart and lubricated. The V selector is stuck in the middle. No biggie.

Can’t wait to put them into regular use!

Flea market acquisition, one Bonney 3/8 wobbley, almost a full set of SK wobbleys, (missing the 1/2 inch) all 3/8 drive and two 3/8 6 point deep wells all for $16, thought the price was high until I checked on the new price at home..mann they are expensive..

Well, it's not a gararge or estate sale find. It's not a Craigslist or ebay find. It's a GJ estate sale 2019 find! Back on the 12th 454ragtop found this Craftsman Crown socket set box (see 1st pic). I mentioned I was hoping to find one and the next thing you know it's arriving at my home. I have a 3/4" Craftsman -V- socket set that has needed a proper resting place since I found it. Now, it has a home! Pic of the box as it arrived, after cleanup and with the socket set stored inside.

After seeing the box in person I was thinking this box might just be for a set of sockets. Period. No ratchet, extensions or breaker bar. After putting my set in there it looks like it could be for a socket set but still have some questions. Here are the sockets that came with it when I bought it - 1-3/4, 1-11/16, 1-5/8, 1-1/2, 1-7/16, 1-3/8, 1-5/16, 1-1/4, 1-3/16, 1-1/8, 1-1/16, 15/16. I believe it's missing the 1" socket (and possibly 1-9/16?) but clearly the box wouldn't hold any more sockets other than loose sitting the the ratchet and other accessories. It has the 3/4" ratchet, 8-1/2" extension and the 18" breaker bar. Does anyone recognize this or know what should be in the set? It would also be icing on the cake to know what box would have originally housed this set.

454ragtop Thanks for letting the box come to a new home and being so diligent about finding the most reasonably priced shipping option! I love the box!!

Edit: Should I open a separate thread to discuss missing sockets or accessories and other questions regarding this vintage of 3/4" CM socket set?

Well found myself trying new online "pastures" this week.
Etsy is a good place for crafty and vintage things but never thought I'd buy tools off it!

A pair of archimedes hand drills.

We found an unusual Thursday estate sale 6 minutes from home according to Google maps. It wasn’t a great sale but we came home with a few interesting treasures. The high point for me was the early Nicholson file brush. It was missing the pick, as usual, but I had one in an unmarked spare brush. A close second was the Cleveland number drill index which was a cousin to my fractional one. The last picture is some random Craftsman stuff.

Craigslist find for $50. Turned out to be a '92 Waterloo, modified casters. Before and after. Some Mac and Snap On tools I don't need that were left behind will undoubtedly more than pay for the box. So ultimately, essentially free or maybe even came out a little ahead.

Paltry finds at a rainy Friday flea. Wartime Williams 1/2-inch drive socket with a 1-1/8" service opening (one of two sizes not too easy to find...) and a Long C Craftsman 4 oz ball-pein hammer.

d42: I love those old drill bit holders. not the best use of space, but they look great.

TEX: nice that you and 454 could make a deal so that cool old Craftsman socket set could find its way from Massachusetts to Texas. WELL DONE!!

Lug: maybe the conversation and coffee at the Flea today was better than what you found or at least you found something. I love the quality of old Williams wrenches and sockets. did it complete a set or just the only thing worth bargaining for?

ALL: we're getting ready for another snow dump and it's our version of the DEEP FREEZE that is in the Pacific NW now, but it's giving me more time to search ads and auctions so maybe i'll find something worth posting up.

Lug: I love the quality of old Williams wrenches and sockets. did it complete a set or just the only thing worth bargaining for?

I don't need it, per se, but the WWII GMTK 1/2-inch drive socket set went up to 1-1/8", and the that socket and the 1-1/16" are not always easy to find, so I usually pick them up no matter what if they're a desirable brand.

I left behind a Long C Craftsman rotary tool in the box (guy wanted $20, I offered $10 - they're nice to have, but I didn't want it that badly) and at a different table, a pair of wartime Armstrong HI-TENSILE tappet wrenches (just using restraint there as I am getting a little crazy with orphan tappet wrenches...) and a mess of HERBRAND Triangle-era 1/2-inch drive sockets (don't collect that era).

I am fairly selective. If I wanted to come home with a bucket full of vintage tools every time I went out, I could.

I did! It's from 1992 so not super duper vintage, but still no spring chicken. It came from an industrial mechanics trade school and was a lot dirtier and GREASIER than is showing in the before pic. I got some hassle from the wifey for getting yet another restore project, but it really needed it as it was absolutely covered in oil and grease.

Thanks! Yeah, this was a nice consolation find, I had just missed out on the Cman 60s grey and red two box stack for $80 ... So bummed esp. because the lower was the 12 drawer model. Still keeping my eyes open for a trade up and some point (limited real estate) but this should work fantastic in the meantime.

Maybe 3bay, Outlaw, bb or BB have better memories than me, but I think this could be an all-time Garage Sale first in terms of location! If you don't mind me asking, just out of curiosity (in terms of thread demographics) are you German, ex-pat, or American stationed there?

Sweet haul, by the way.

I love the fact that Mercedes was putting an adjustable in the style of that Steinadler in a car kit as late as 1950. That style adjustable (very similar to a US Billings & Spencer and a British Abingdon King ****) was at least 50 years at that point in time.

My German (lived in Augsburg from 1984 to 1989) is rusty, but I think I can translate trink into drink and eiskalt into ice cold!

What is the tool that looks like a hook spanner and who made it? You didn't identify that one.

TEX: that's interesting cause I had a lot of issues with MS EDGE and GJ's site about 3 years ago and not any issues with GOOGLE'S CHROME. not sure exactly why so maybe the IT type members might have a say, but I also use the privacy mode of CHROME if that makes a difference so I don't have all the pop ups and ad chasers hounding me quite as much.

i'm seeing JAKE'S scans on my T-Mobile IPhone and not sure if its Safari or Edge or Chrome, but scans are showing just fine.

ALL: tool buying seems to be at a standstill here, but I am getting pickier that is for certain.

I wish I had a warehouse full of snow melt cause every store it out and we have 6 inches predicted tonight.

Long drive to an estate sale today only to find that the advertised tools were claimed before the sale. i did find a new to me screwdriver type. This is a Stanly pozidrive with an unusual handle. I really prefer perfect handles but this is even better. It fits my and like a perfect but also spins like a normal handle.

Some recent pick ups.....


2.Craftsman Metric Semi Deep sockets, I believe these to be early versions as they have no date stamp on them, just 1X M/M. The later ones were all stamped GK. Additionally, these do not have off corner engagement.
3. Diamond made HandyBoy pliers stamped Allied Tractor Equipment Co. I've seen lots of HandyBoys, but none with this name on them. My friend Mickey O had a pair of Allis - Chalmers that were rare.
4. Early S-K ratchet 45170 with the funny mechanism, sadly this one only engages one direction and free spins the other.
5. Craftsman 6 point deep offset double box end wrench, first one I've come across.
6. NOS S-K Peg Packs metric wrenches.
7. NOS Vaco Nut Driver set #9000.
8. NOS Vaco Ratcheting T handle set 90-4R.
9. NOS Vaco blades for their flip screwdrivers. Those flip drivers sell for really decent money. Mickey O turned me on to these years ago.

Yeah, it's worth watching if nothing else for all the old iron moving around, and to find out that the God of Tanks wears coveralls.
The surrender signing scene is also very well done.

I know there are a few out there that like Freaking BIG grinders. I went to this estate sale tonight.....tomorrow is half off. This thing is huge and its on a nice stand. Looks like it was being used in a small shop so maybe its not running 440 volts now. The sale is just east of Moline in Colona Illinois
All I drug home was an 8 pound sledge, new 16 oz vaughn ball peen, new box of led free solder, and some car cleaning stuff for 8$....I was happy

Well I bought another forklift today. Its a nice Yale 12V electric walk behind. I believe its a 2500 pound capacity. Will be picking it up tomorrow. Also comes with the charger! Everything works prefect which is nice. Paid $300 for it.

We went to two estate sales today before the rain started. The one in Hayward had quite a bit of vintage S-K and Craftsman. The second one in Piedmont had a Dunlap vise for me to pull off of the workbench along with a few other tools.
