I am new to this site and it is awesome! I have come across this 1927-1929 Snap-on Tools Cabinet recently that I wanted to share with everyone. Even has some original tools with it. (Sorry for the bad picture, took it with my cell phone...It was up in a loft in garage in Mass. It has some original tools with it too..I will get better pictures (including the inside and tools) tomorrow if anyone wants to see it. Let me know what you think...Robert

That is a VERY nice find my friend.

Oldest thing I've seen yet from Snap-on. You should call the company, they would probably buy/ swap you for that....

I wish I could tell you that was all of them (about 30 more):bounce:, they aren't worth anything to speak of, I guess I just like tripping over them. I'm still working on more shelves like the first pic to get them up off the floor

This is an outstanding find. This is the nicest green one I have ever seen, despite the missing lower drawer. The paint is in unusually nice condition. I have one of these in green, as does another collector friend, but the condition of this one is amazing.

Here is mine, you can see how above average the condition of yours is in:

Snap on has one in their private museum, I believe it is in very nice condition.

These came out around 1925 and ran until around 1930. They were sold for hardware store display/sales units, but fairly recently original literature has shown up showing that they sold them to trade schools as well to hold class tools in.

Thanks for the feedback and great pictures. I actually have the 3rd drawer, it was just out at the time of the picture. I was back at the place I got it and I found a matching stand for it too. Same color and exact same size for the cabinbet to stand on. It has about 5 shelves on it.. The tools that are in it are from 1927 annd 1928.

Wow, quite amazing, I would love to see some pics of the stand as well. Were the tools you found inside unused? Would love to see what tools it has in it.

I recently posted this Williams S-6 box in another thread but it belongs here as well. Haven't had a chance to clean it yet.

Hey chad s...where is the museum?

Its in Kenosha, WI. I have seen some pics of it. Its not anything extremely extensive, and they don't appear to have anything that is not in any of the larger private collections I know of. Their Model T delivery they built is in the same place, but think they sometimes travel with it. I don't believe its open to the public. Its not a full on museum, its more of a single room lobby showcasing some of their history, and mainly for dealers and other business partners involved when they visit headquarters.

Hello,
Robert, that was an incredible find!!!! I agree with Chad. I have included a picture of my Snap-On Hardware Dealer Cabinet that is close to the same as Chad's. I also would like to see pictures of the inside of your cabinet and the tools you got with it. I feel these are very interesting pieces of the Snap-On history. The early versions of these are green and later they went to black. Also they went to external hinges later. Mike

I have the Craftsman version. Rescued it from a garage sale on it's last day. I use it as my Go Box.

Here's an old Williams chest, ca. 1978, I recently refurbished. It's done in satin black with "John Deere green" drawer fronts. It was a fun little project.

Great looking box:thumbup: Any idea who the mfg is?

WATERLOO is the OEM. This model of chest was very common and was sold under many brands from Craftsman to Williams. If you look through the various tool box threads you'll see this box over and over again with an assortment of different labels. I'm partial to the old Williams scroll label so I picked this particular box for a resto project.

The other day I was in Lowes and saw this same chest under the Task Force label and a price tag of $98. Pawn shops are full of old vintage ones in the $20 - $40 range. They usually have a couple of old tools and "other stuff" left in them.

Didn't know that, I had the same box branded S-K. I like your color choices, looks cool.

Wow, that box looks great Lauver !!

Glad ya like it. I wish I had taken some before pictures. It was pretty sad. All dinged up, rusty, tweeked, and had many holes drilled in it. It was apperantly mounted in the back of a truck in its former life.

I've got an old Mac top and a who knows what bottom that have to be from the latter 40s as the garage they came out of closed in 52. Found a 49 NY license plate under the bottom draw of the top, there's a space were things can slide under it.

When I asked about mfg I thought it looked like my 70s Cman other than the handles.

There is a very good chance that your Crafty box was made by Waterloo...they have been an OEM to Sears off and on over the decades. Handle style seems to vary over time with these boxes.

Picked this one up with a Kennedy bottom off CL a couple months ago. The guy said he was at least the 2nd owner and he bought it in the mid 70s. Here is a couple pics in the condition I bought it in. I cleaned up the outside a bit since then, but it was in pretty good shape when I got it. Anyone else ever seen a New Britian tool box before?
