Anyone have any recommendations on a low speed drill press? The lower the speed the better. My current press only goes down to about 640rpm, but I'd like one that can go as low as possible, preferably somewhere around 100rpm.

Not looking to break the bank here.

I'm drilling stainless.

100 rpm is very low for a drill press, unless you are talking about a large commercial radial unit, especially if you're looking for cheap.

What I think you're really looking for here is a used bridgeport or other mill, if you really need spindle speeds that are that slow.

Do you have any pics of the drill press? I was looking for a lower speed on mine so I built a low speed attachment for it. Only cost about $20 and it works like a charm.

Heres a couple pics:

I've been thinking of ways to slow mine down also., Delta 14" 12 speed.

One way is to use a 3 phase motor and a variable frequency drive. That lets you vary the frequency to vary speed.

@Keep - I saw those photos you posted in another thread. Very nice.

I have a smaller ~3 year old 2/3hp craftsman. Don't have any pics handy though.

The classic way has been to change the diameter of the pulleys. If they aren't that hard to take off, it's very easy to do. You will have to experiment to find out how slow you can go before you start having issues with breaking bits and such.

Some kits available here. probably not "bolt on", some fabrication still required, but might get you started thinking about designs looking at this page.
