Some more DBEs that I have -



Snap-on XV series SAE. 1950s and 1960s. I have a particular fondness for these wrenches that I can't quite explain. I really like the way the recessed panel on the Snap-on wrenches of that era look and feel.

I understand - I share your fondness for the VeeGees, but I can explain! They look like the wrenches Buck Rogers would have used to fix his space ship!

Is it just me, or is the slash mark in the 5/8" marking backwards, like this: 5\8? Maybe the diemaker was a little tipsy that day!

I bought a few Snappy wrenches off of GJ member youinreverse. Believe it or not, the Snap-on portion of my collection is pretty thin. These are my only non-deep-offset Snap-on DBEs.

No dupes, but I'm open to trading those off.

I am really interested in completing my set of unbranded Deep Offset "Chrome Molybdenum" Round Shank DBEs with the sizes stamped inside an oval at either end (like Truth wrenches). I have 3, but need a 3/4 x ?, and 5/8 on down.

Seems like it might be Lakeview/Lakeside from Erie, PA. No markings on the other side and the 1/2" end is milled down. The forged-in mark near the 1/2" end is pretty worn - hard to tell what it is.

Seems like it might be Lakeview/Lakeside from Erie, PA. No markings on the other side and the 1/2" end is milled down. The forged-in mark near the 1/2" end is pretty worn - hard to tell what it is.

Mr Bill: I dont think I have one of those myself. I thought it might be a Massey Harris Tractor Co wrench, but they used the abbreviation "MH". Then, digging a few pages into Google searches turned up this link on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/655449694/antique-vintage-barn-pulley-light-mht-co

This is a cast iron barn pulley with "MHT Co, clear as day.

The unmarked looks identical to the early SK Diamond wrenches.

My guess on the Chrome Vanadium Steel wrench is Indestro based on the shape of the raised pad. Here is my Duro wartime 2014A with the same shape on the raised pad. Indestro made quite a few tools marked Chrome Vanadium.

I wonder about that “early S-K Diamond” stuff. S-K initially contracted or partnered with Lectrolite for wrenches. Could be they contracted with Duro, too?

I suspect that all of them including the S-K wrenches were made by Duro/Indestro. When those S-K wrenches were made they hadn’t yet hooked up with Lectrolite as their wrench manufacturer so they easily could have been using Indestro as a source. We could all be right.

That is getting to the root. You are absolutely correct. That would is pre lectrolite generation and the resemblance is uncanny.

Here is my shorty 1945 Duro offset DBE. The raised panel is the same but the wrench was made during the metal restrictions so it’s later than the Chrome Vanadium Alloy could have been used.

Misterbill: it appears I was mistaken--i do have an M.H.T Co. wrench on my rack:

It appears yours has a more flattened, rectangular shank, similar to an early Plomb, whereas mine has a more oval cross section, but with a distinctive flattened section where the brand and sizes are cast. I have nothing else similar in my collection.

I didn't make any more progress identifying the M.H.T. Co. or whether they were the OEM.

I found one of those last year and someone in the garage sale thread identified it. I cant remember who might have been Lugz. Ill try and find my post later after work. Im pretty sure it was the 2018 thread though.

I remember that. Your eBay seller thought it was Myers Hay Tools, which didn't make sense, because the name of the company who made all those farm implements was actually F.E. Myers. Someone else suggested Massie-Harris Tools, which makes a little more sense with the M.H. part, but again, the tractor maker was just Massie-Harris, Inc. Ditto for McKaig-Hatch. As I recall it ended inconclusively. But I could be wrong, I am old and befuddle easy.
