Looking for crimpers for heat shrink crimps 24-26ga wire or insulated **** splices. The low temp solder/shrink splices are optional but I have not used them before. These will be used on several car audio wiring projects trying to make tidy stereo harnesses.

I would be interested to hear responses, as well. I just posted a question very similar to this, but for a bit larger wire.

I use Ancor ratcheting double crimpers. I have six different ones for different sizes/types of crimp. Have not let me down yet.

You don't see many with dies for those smaller sizes, most stop at 22AWG. The ones I have do have the fourth die for the white **** connectors. The guy who runs that site evidently worked with Sargent to develop the crimpers. They're made in the US, and Sargent is the OEM crimper manufacturer for Delphi, so I have some confidence in what they make. c2d289da7278f1e48c7ae54e50314af2.jpg20c561684afce2b3378315f82ebf2bc5.jpg

All that said, it'd be much, much cheaper for you and result in a more compact, tidy and manageable installation to use to use either uninsulated **** connectors or uninsulated parallel connectors, and finish with heat shrink for corrosion protection and strain relief.

Good heat shrink butts are what, like $1 a piece? Uninsulated connectors and heat shrink will cost you pennies per connection.

Just be careful if you use uninsulated connectors with wire that small. The strands are delicate, so you'll want to get your heat shrink in place before you move anything around.

Small gauges like that do not use insulated crimps. They are usually uninsulated open barrel terminals where the tool folds in the two legs. Typically found on socket pins. Sometimes a second crip holds the insulation. There are tools that make both crimps simultaneously, the insulation crimp being bigger. I have used that type of portable tooling. It is a PIA and easy to mess up.

Why such small gauge wires? I install aftermarket electronics for a living and can't think of any harness or car with such small gauge wires behind the radio. Most of the time its 18awg . And for that I use standard Pliers style crimpers

Pressmaster DRB0595L crimps from 30 to 20 gauge. They have another model that only goes down to 26 ga. These are OPEN BARREL CRIMPS and ofen specific to a particular style pin like a D sub connector. What you are looking for does not exist Closed barrel connectors, insulated or uninsulated, only go down to 22 ga. There is a trick I have used when a wire was too small for a connector. Strip twice as much as needed and fold the stripped end back on itself. You now have 2 x 24 or 26 ga in the barrel and the 22 to 18 connector holds very well.
