So i want to hang my new tv up today in the garage. The instructions for mounting says to use 4 bolts( not supplied) Here is what they say they are...

Unit Dimension (unit: mm) 200x200
Screw Diameter: M6
Screw Legnth ( unit: mm) <12
_

Can anyone simplify this ? Thanks P.S. There is supposed to be a little dash directly under the < before the 12 ( but i couldnt make it go there)

My best guess is the mounting pattern is 4 holes in a square, with the cole centers spaces 200mm (~7 7/8") apart.

The screws should be 6mm diameter, and no longer than 12mm. You can probably use 1/4" bolts instead.

While 6mm is ~1/4" I'm thinking that their statement may be referring to existing threads in the back of the TV in which case you would need a standard 6mm thread and pitch.

If these are the bolts that thread into the back of the TV, you need to stick with M6 metric. If they're the ones that screw into the wall you can use the closest US size.

The 200x200 you are referring to is a universal VESA mounting pattern on the back of a typical HDTV. Ones that I know of are 100x100, 100x200, and 200x200, and all refer to the metric (millimeter) bolt pattern. Most TVs will require metric screws to mount them, as others mentioned above.

My TV mounting bracket came with a slew of bolts to ensure you had the right ones to attach the bracket to the TV. Pretty nice I thought!

Like bikes, TVs are all metric it seems.

Make sure there is no warning or note regarding how long the bolts can be. Sure would be a shame to tighten up the bolts holding the bracket to the TV ans find the bolt has bottomed out and cracks the case of the set.

Home Depot has a decent selection of metric. Look in the pull out drawers of stainless, metric, and unusual hardware items.

Most auto parts places also have metric hardware.

I need these as well but all of the stores that I call do not have it in stick. Where can I buy the m6 200x200?

what he said.

take a straw or something (plastic) and gently probe the holes to see if you have enough depth for the srcrews

Almost everything's metric here in the UK so I know what they are talking about. It's a standard M6 (6mm) thread bolt equal to or less than 12mm in thread length. Probably will take a 10mm spanner.

This. If you get a bracket from Monoprice, you'll get a huge bag of hardware with it. Lag bolts, long and short attachment bolts, concrete wall anchors, plastic spacers, the works.

You're looking to buy M6x12 screws.

M6 refers to the outer diameter of the threads, 6mm in this case .

12 refers to the length of the screw not counting the head, 12 mm in this case. Actually, your instructions say <12 which means it can be no longer than 12 mm but can be shorter. You generally want a minimum of three full turns of the screw engaged.
