Hit a few more sales while out and about yesterday and came home with 100’s of USA Craftsman sockets, 100’s of Allen wrenches, snap ring pliers, and tons and tons of hardware. Spent a few hours last night just organizing the hardware. After work today I will take a crack at the sockets and maybe the allens. Also got a assortment of other things to go through. It was quite a “productive” tool buying day.

On a side note I went to a sale where the father had died and had a shop full of machinery. Old lathes, drill presses, etc. wish I had the cash and a truck as I would of taken nearly all of it. Sadly that’s not how it worked out.

Ooo, man, that looks great and takes me back. I spent about 6 months TDY at Menwith Hill, living in a small village outside of Harrogate in 1988. When the locals found out I could throw darts, I was enlisted in a 301 league. The village also had a brass bed relay race, involving ale, of course. Five man teams, one on the bed at each time, four on the corners. But you could put it down to change positions, or to imbibe. I wish I cold remember the name of the village.

I finally broke my slump! Wait till y’all see what’s in here. It probably weighs 60 lbs and all starts with a “p”.

Google fu. It sounded fun, so I checked it out.
I did a local Kinetic Sculpture Race a few years ago, with a similar vibe, but it didn’t become a classic. Modest compared to some held in larger cities. I watched one in Baltimore, I thought was pretty cool.

Got up way too early for an estate sale yesterday because there were a couple of planes and possibly an early aluminum B&D workmate. The workmate turned out to be a stamped steel one which I already have two. The planes like most of it were overpriced. I did pick up a nice small True Temper "Perfect" hammer and another Red Devil Jak Nife scraper though.

Didn't plan on hitting any today but out my study window this morning I could see the neighbor across the street having some kind of sale. Picked up some nails, casters, and some instruments. Not real sure how they were used or by who - Alnor velometer jr, Davis anemometer and a Gardner paint thickness gauge? Any practical applications where people would still use these today and if so how? I spent $12 total between the two sales.

Tex-

The Alnor Velometer Jr (this attaches to the bottom of an air flow hood) and Davis Anemometer are used by Air Balancing companies. Typical applications are clean room environments (among others) where air registers/diffusers are set to design flow quantities. This creates a cascading pressure differential to prevent cross contamination during manufacturing. They are literally used to measure moving air.

Happy hunting!

The flea market has been rained out 4 weeks in a row. The sun was finally out today and I did fairly well. My first purchase was from a booth with few tools, but they did have these gems in a little pile.

8 half inch drive Plomb Los Angeles sockets from 13/16” down to 7/16”. One is a rope braid dd10, one is banded, and the rest are plain. All round “o”.

Also bought a double ended crescent wrench. A first for me. 2 bucks for everything. Felt good to be back at it.

The second purchase was the best. Picked up that tool box I teased earlier filled to the gills with vintage P&C tools.
-Full set of 1/2” sockets from 1 1/4” to 7/16” including all the **/32” sizes and 5 eight points.
-Almost full set of 1/2” deeps
-Some 3/8” sockets including a few universals
-1/2” and 3/8” ratchets and long extensions
-Combos from 1 5/16” to 13/16”
-Misc. DOE and DBE wrenches.

Also had some other cool stuff in it.
-5542 and 5528 plomb sockets
-1120 plomb DBE
-Unmarked wf-21
-tiny S.W. manufacturing hammer
-Proto valve adjuster
-Lufkin metal folding rule
-Starrett dividers
-General electric radius gauges

I paid 35 bucks for the whole thing and just about wore myself out carrying it back to the truck. I’ll post some more pictures in the appropriate threads.

CF, great score!

So that's the second double ended adjustable this weekend - who's going to pop in with # three?

Mine was Diamond, 4 X 6

Yours is Crescent, what "sizes"? 6 X 8?

Actually the Big 3 auto swap meet. Free. Works but probably needs new brushes. Anybody see these before?

It's been a few years since I had a good English Breakfast. Actually the last time was an Irish Breakfast and they are all delicious. I may have to look at a quick Ryan Air flight across the channel one of these weekends.

SWMBO and I drove down to the Cape to greet my eldest, as her school's ship was supposed to return to port today. (For those interested in more details, here's a link: http://www.followthevoyage.com). Alas, the winds were too rough, so the ship will stay in Cape Cod Bay for another two days. With our day suddenly free, SWMBO and I picked our way back north.

First stop was an antique store having a "Going out of business" sale. Last day, supposedly, with "Make an offer" signs everywhere. I don't think they were very motivated, though. I found a later Craftsman 1/2 hp block grinder with a missing switch, loose cover and no quench tray marked at $65. When one of the owners tried to chat it up to me, I offered him ten bucks for it. He said "Nah," spun on his heel and walked away. Guess he wanted it more than me.

The second antique shop was bigger but didn't turn up anything of interest. However, our last stop was the Raynham Flea Market, which bills itself as "New England's Premier Flea Market". This location is too far out of my normal range, but a good stop on the way back from the Cape.

I hit pay dirt in a packed-to-the-gills double stall of tools and hardware. After swimming through stacks of grungy tool boxes and slipping sideways down overflowing aisles, I bargained for a bunch of wrenches (long-C Craftsman, Bridgeport, Dunlap, Indestro, Lectrolite & Sparta DBEs), a Proto 706 6" adjustable, and an un-branded pneumatic needle scaler for $40. I left behind a 3/4" Blackhawk ratchet and sockets that I am now regretting. Maybe some other weekend.8aa0914ed340a933c38690c01145054c.jpgf00f645d40cdd45723882970434c6647.jpg61cbb8205d725058f387008f09241bb0.jpg134a747e02bd8af0978d74cd778e67ca.jpg

BajaScout: I don't know. I've looked it all over and can't find a single indication of maker, contract, or model number.

Yep, that the one. The school is lobbying for federal funding to replace her, as she's getting a bit long in the tooth.

Also had to have this sharpening stone device, has three grits of stone and it revolves. Thought I’d was pretty cool.
Has the name “Sorensen Company” on the lid.

I used to go to an industrial supply in Sacramento that had a three stone set up like that on the counter. It was pretty nice.

I've never seen one before, this one is pretty stout.

Neither have I. Come across some older kits before, never the wood ones.

I saw part of one of those shotgun rods today at a sale, the person who was running the sale didn't know what it was, So I told her and tried to explain how it was used. Rich
