Anyone go through one recently- have some questions.

- from what i gather, no plates on any of the outlets, easy
- I put up the shop lights because I want some lighting in the garage, so I need to take one down?
- I don’t plan on putting up drywall anytime soon... what do I need to show that is fundamentally different than the rough in?

It all depends on the inspector. Some detail would help. Your questions are a little vague. If you're just asking about final electrical then the electrical needs to be buttoned-up/finished. The drywall becomes necessary if the wiring is exposed and considered to be subject to damage by the inspector. You shouldn't need to take down the lights.

EDIT: I assume you passed a rough-in electrical?

Final is final. I doubt you can pass final if the wiring was rough inspected assuming drywall would be installed. If the AHJ has plans or specs that show drywall or other wall cover, they should expect to see it installed (though probably it need not be taped and finished or painted).

The county I'm in if the wiring(Romex) is run from the top plate down to outlets and then back up along side of the stud to top plate then no dry wall was required. But if the Romex is run through bored holes running perpendicular to the studs through the open cavity then either running boards or drywall was required. They don't want wire that could become used for hanging stuff on.

Which VA county? Do you happen to know the code for that?

All Va counties should be following the Va Unified Building Code which the electrical is the NEC. Some requirements are subjective and may be enforced stricter from one county to another.

I got my va elec final without drywall or even all of the outlet covers. For homeowner they will be more lenient if you say you are in the process. They want to make sure a contractor isnt screwing you more so I believe.

No mention of needing drywall.

Just plugged in the circuit checkers for gfi tripping and was done.

Called up one of the inspectors today and asked him - since I ran some of the wiring horizontal then I’ll need to cover it.

Bought a bunch of insulation today and am putting that up now. Will get drywall this week and pay a crew to put it in this weekend.
