Can I add wire and plug to 240v ceiling heater?

I have a stelpro 5000 watt ceiling mounted heater. I would like to add a twistlock 30amp plug to it and 10-2 stranded cord to make servicing it easier. Is this up to code in Washington state?

It currently is hard wired using flexible metal conduit and solid core Romex.

Sure. It works as a disconnect.

You will need 10/3 cabtire. (3 insulated since the bond is insulated in flexible cords)

Thank you. I found everything at home Depot but I think I'm screwed. The box that I currently have is a metal octagon. I couldn't find anyway to adapt it to 4" square metal box.

With a few sheet metal screws you can adapt anything to anything.

Just put a ****** on it and mount a 4" square box beside it.

Explain the ******? I could holesaw out the back of a 4" square box and screw it on top on the hex box. But is any if this legal? The hex box is mudded into the drywall so you couldn't see it under the square box.

ah gotcha. Get an octagon extension. Attach that to the existing box, then knock out one of the 1/2 ko's in the side and use a short piece of 1/2" emt and 2 connectors (or a short ******). Then mount your 4" square box beside. Pull your wires into the square, or extend and make joints in the octagon.

If you do screw a 4" box to the ceiling just knock a ko out of the back and use a bushing, no need to hole saw anything just be sure to maintain the bond.
