Looking to get a few tools in for work but I'm tire of chrome issues, yes its under warranty but I'd rather not deal with it at all. So my question is: does anyone know who to speak with to get an non chromed tool. When I spoke to Snap On, truck and industrial they both said not possible. So other than buying the tools and having them unplated somewhere any other suggestions?

Industrial finish will go rusty given any condensation.

Industrial or oxide finish isn't available for a lot of the tools I am interested in; crowsfeet, angle wrenches, flank drive plus combo wrenches

Stahlwille has the finish you seek, looks great with no rust issues.

Well I probably wouldn't order European tools as shipping makes them more expensive than Snapon or just tak forever to get here the few times I've looked. Throw in certain features I find to be very handy like the flank drive plus and the angle wrenches being 30 and 60 being eclusive to SO and then there's no point. Just seems dumb to me you can order a vehicle in almost any color you want but not a tool that costs more per pound.

Anyone have some suggestions for where to get chrome removed? Thread search recommended vinegar or scothbrite as a DIY approach

If you really are going to go through the trouble of having the chrome removed you will want some sort of coating. I did a couple tools in NP3 Plus from robar. Not cheap but the finish is amazing.

In my experience I’ve yet to have chrome issues and my work tools stay in an outside truckbox. I constantly fight condensation by giving a light coat of oil and even my cheap Chinese garbage stuff is as the day I bought them. If you’re having chrome issues it was probably already there before or they’re being stored in a lake.

How did you get that finish put on your tools?

The issue I'm having is the chrome in the corners cracking due to the open end flexing a little bit and then
rust gets under the rest of the chrome. I also think chrome on hydraulic tools is stupid and much rather have a satin or black oxide.

That coating is too thick. I'd expect it to interfere with the tool fit.
If it were me, I'd go for a simple parkerizing and then just oil the tools.

Hydraulic tools. Ok, so keeping them "oiled" isn't a big issue.

If the chrome is cracking, it sounds like you're overstressing the tools. Have you looked at the open ended line wrenches from Snap On. They're only in limited sizes, but they have much heavier open ended jaws. Both wider and thicker. They wont flex at all! They're the RXS## or RXSM## wrenches.

I think you are going to have that problem no matter what coating you put on. Eventually they will all do that, you best bet would be to clean thw tools after use and spray a lubricant/anti-rust oil on it.

How do you figure? They do not coat it any thicker than the chrome plating (which they remove prior to coating in NP3) and I have had it done on a couple tools with no problems of fitment.
