Odd Tool Cart Question

Hey everyone. I have a tool cart question. I am a full time tech and currently have a basic Matco cart that I use as an everyday cart along with a Snap-On toolbox that I keep everything in. The cart I have doesn't have any drawers or a lid so I have to unload it every day so my stuff can be locked up. I used to have a Matco MSC4 I used as my main box/cart when I first started out but now that's what I use at home. My question in all of this is: Is there a cart that has a drawer or two in it, a deep top and overall height isn't too tall? I love the MSC4 but I don't have the space for a cart that big or tall at work. I know it's an odd request but I figured this was a good place to ask.

I had a MSC4 full drawer cart and traded it in for a (used) JSC750 cart. The top has a bit more space & depth to it, the bottom drawer is considerably deeper as well. Overall height isnt bad but it is a bigger cart so it has a bigger foot print.

If you want to quickly lock up your stuff, a hutch for your tool box may be an option. Another thought would be enclose the lower part of your two shelf cart and add a couple doors to it so you can lock it.

IME it's preferable to put everything away at the end of the day, but it doesnt always happen. The shops I've worked at, we never had a problem with stuff going missing, I know it's an issue some have had to deal with.

Thanks for your input! I agree entirely that locking everything up at the end of every day is ideal but if I'm in the middle of a big job, it's nice to just close the lid on a cart and lock it up for the night! I looked at the JSC750 and it's a bit big for the shop I'm in. Thanks again for your input!

Are you looking for shorter than most tool carts? If so modifying an open bottomed bolt together one might be your best option. Would be easy to cut down and redrill the legs on something like the harbor freight carts. And don't take that as a recommendation for the hf carts because the top ain't deep enough on them.

My current cart is 35" tall and 16" deep and it's perfect for the shop I'm in because it's kinda tight between the bays. Cutting down the legs on a taller cart with a deeper top was a thought. Only issue with that idea is that most of those carts are pretty deep. Unfortunately, that won't work. I love the Sunex 8013 and the Matco SP8230 but I wish they had a deeper top. To top it off, I can't post links for either cart because my post count is too low.

^^^ Usually you cant use standard % off coupons on HF carts but they have run coupon discounts IIRC for $84 on that bulk storage cart. And I did use a special one time only 15% off coupon on any one item myself was like $76 including sales tax out the door

The overall design does meet the general parameters the OP was looking for.

It has 1 5 in deep drawer and the top storage of the box is a full 6 inches deep and is rated for 350lb WWL

It is pretty sturdy for as inexpensive of a cart as it is.

At the moment its top storage area packed full with of all my racked chrome sockets. Full complements of standard and deep sae and metric 1/4" 3/8" and 1/2" 6pt 12pt plus a couple racks of duplicates and the drawer has all the breaker bars and ratchets and extensions plus the two lower shelves are holding all my boxed impact sets 3/8"thru 3/4"

That's a lot of weight.
