PCHP: great looking vise or should I say vice!! i'm guessing around early 1900's and probably European. could be the early design that YORK modeled their vices after. where are you located and if you put your location even if an area sometimes it helps with research or be anonymous if you like.

nice find

Well PCHP, I thought that I had found you something similar to yours back on page 3429, posts 68574 and 68575.---But after comparing more closer, they are right different.---But even those couldn't find a name.

Hi. I need your help with the identification of a vise. It's a 6-inch vise, it only has one 8-pointed star and the number 125. I did a lot of searching but I did not find anything.

OK guys, don't make fun of me. Just picked up a 4" Chinese double swiveling utility vise similar to the one below.

https://www.bing.com/th?id=OIP.6NclQyA5V0YAXLri2WJpywHaHa&w=184&h=180&c=7&o=5&pid=1.7

Great shape & price $30. The problem is that one of the removable pipe jaws is missing. Tried googling & nothing seemed to come up. Anyone have any ideas where I can get those jaws?

Thanks.

Post a close up of the remaining jaw with dimensions. (Maybe start a thread for it).

This 600s started as a $200 CL find for a friend that quickly turned into a lot of work. I told him I would paint it for him and it spun out of control. We're both pretty damn happy with the end result. I now wish it was mine more than ever!

That's a thinker. Searching for "antiker schraubstock" (antique vise) brings up a few images of similar vises, some with the same eight-pointed star, but no positive ID on the maker just yet. Interesting design, though.

Thanks for all of the kind words. A lot more work went into this one than I would have imagined. I had to put the owner to work on all of the stars. we put star decals over the white paint then applied the blue. some of the corners peeled up and he had to hand brush touch up almost every one. There is more than 50 I am told. It will give him a greater appreciation for it I think. He says its going in his living room for now until he can stand to have it in the garage lol.

I know this forum is the epitome of manliness and stuff, but I for one think its over done, so in-your-face 'Murica! that it is a parody rather than a tribute.

But hey, it's not my vise, it's his, and he can have it any way he wants it.

Same here. It's a little over the top to me. I have developed an aversion to excessive flaggery as it is too often used to punctuate bad behavior. As you said, though, it's his to do with what he likes. Full points for creativity and workmanship, even if it ain't my cup of groats.

At the vise convention, this one should get first prize for most interesting customized
paint job!

I was thinking WWII Bomber motif between the pinup girl and the flag.

Interesting that you mention that outlaw. Thats my next project on a vise I am working on now! I didnt expect it to get some of the reaction of the whole "merica" thing. The guy I did it for and I are both veterans and thought it was a nice touch. Everyone on here is respectful and I am glad for the feedback. I am sure we have all seen things that isnt our cup of tea but can appreciate the work that has gone into things.

Dark Monohue, I couldnt agree more. I dont care for seeing the tattered dirty flags being flown in the bed of a pick up truck while driving like an idoit etc. I am sure on some levels people find that patriotic.

I dont want to hijack the thread. Thank you again everyone for the compliments and feedback.

That is a beautiful vise and great work you did there. When you started, was he looking to have it repainted and then use it? Of all the great accolades I can say about this vise, there is only 1 negative thing about it....you can never use it!

A couple of years ago there was a guy on eBay selling mirror finished vises, mainly Craftsman, but the odd other brand also. His also were shelf queens, not users, at least in my opinion. Here's a link that shows 2 of is. Too bad I can't find pics of the red and blue ones he did, they look anodized.

When I saw 125 on it, that made it almost for sure European. The puzzling thing is that 125 is 5" and a 6" would be a 150; PCHP, are you sure it is a 6"? Do you own it or it is a pic from the seller. Any case, looks a bit like a Reed Steamworkers vise, meaning very stout and if the price was right, I definitely would love to own one like that.

FMC, I think he actually will use it after an admiration period inside the house :lol_hitti he doesnt have a SWMBO so maybe it can hold the remote control for the tv untill its needed for garage duty.

I also don't have a SWMBO. I guess that's why I get away with having my 60 air compressor in the dining room with copper air line running thru the wall into my garage [emoji1][emoji1][emoji1][emoji1]

I found this Prentiss no.22 last summer. If you look past the thin coating of gray paint you will see a 90 year old vise that’s in beautiful condition. There’s barely a hammer mark on it and the handle is arrow straight. The vise is shown in as found condition. The jaws still look sticky sharp.03895d3b64f6c221fda21ba806d602ee.jpg5ab6cbbfdedec3dc1377857afe64ec25.jpg11d7fdefe83f3e8a4df7ab874768b774.jpg7ed9df96124d198db69e5860cd40adda.jpg51c13637450d187a425ec330d244a39c.jpg
The vise has 6” jaws and weighs in at 168 lbs.
