Half and half. Some drawers are easy, all screw drivers, all SAE wrenches, all Metric wrenches and sockets, all 1/2" sockets but then there's torxs screw drivers and 1/4" drive sets, etc, etc. So I try to keep it organized so I can find the tool I need. Try is the operative word.

worse than disorganized... but at least the metrics are in one place, and inches are in one place. If you know how to keep bunch of misc useful tools in one organzied places post some ideas...

my toolboxes (3 of them) are neat and organized. my shop, however, is just the opposite...I can deal with shop clutter but if I can't find a hand tool I need I get po'd...

A 75% disaster. Don't laugh. Im not in the same league as you guys :p123 This is what I have:
https://www.kmart.com/craftsman-evolv-basic-5-drawer-tool-center-platinum/p-010W043101219002P

I have outgrown it and don't have the cash to buy a larger one at the moment. I want to upgrade to a 72" workbench which will have plenty of drawers to keep me happy. I say 75% disaster because I at least have the top drawer labeled metric, the drawer under it SAE, and the drawer under that ratchets and accessories. But the top and the bottom have stuff just spewing everywhere, I have smaller power tools next to it, specialty tools in and out the bottom, etc. Can't wait to consolidate.

Relatively neat. Some stuff is getting crowded though. I could use at least another roll cart right now and eventually will need more space than that. Besides a cart, I want a cabinet currently to house my tools that are in blow molded cases. Moving those out of one of my boxes would free up a lot of room for other stuff.

All are organized except the screwdriver and pliers drawers. Most used items are in front, rarely used ones slowly move towards the back. Once or twice a year I "reorganize" and make it look pretty. It reverts back after a month or two. Some areas may look askew (scope leads/probes), but I know where everything is.

Screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers, measurement tools, sockets and ratchets are indexed. The rest are too full in the drawers to organize.

My main box is completely organized. every hand tool has a "home" and I never search for a damn thing. I am too lazy to have a scavenger hunt.

Folks that open 3 drawers to find one thing are working to hard at being lazy.

A slightly organized mess most of the time, but I know where everything is :lol_hitti
i try and stay organized but too often, when im using something, I may not finish that job the same day, and so it doesn't always find its way back to its correct home, gets left in a tool bag, inside one of the project cars, etc. then every few months I go and reorganize to straighten things out. I've gotten better, done some better organizing, separated my body and metal work tools from the rest of the mechanic/ hand tools tools, but I really just need a bigger or another box but haven't bit the bullet on anything yet.

My work benches are disgraceful

Organized. Tools are cleaned if needed when put away. In the middle of a project, there may be stacks of tools on top of my box until I'm done.

Here are a few drawers.

If I had that much Snap On stuff I’d be **** and organized too lol.

That said, even with my meager collection I need to be better organized

Neat or organized for who ?? It may look like to total disorganized mess to you but I guarantee I know exactly where everything is. I can tell you what drawer and how many tools right or left is the one I want. If it is anywhere in the barn I can tell you exactly where to get it at. The only exception to that is if the wifey been out there snooping and borrowing while I was at work and Ill know about that as soon as i get home because she never puts the lock on the hasp like I do :)

Mostly organized. I like to keep a drawer per "category" such as: Small bit drivers and security bits, Screwdrivers, 1/4" socket set, 3/8" socket set, small pliers/wrenches, larger ones, combination wrenches, air tools. Larger drawers at bottom get power tools and blow mold cases.

I'm 90% neat (the only part of my life that is), but I do have one junk drawer for misc. stuff that doesn't fit any particular category (sharpies, calculator, tape measures, etc). Although this drawer isn't particularly neat I know whats in it and can find it quickly.

The bench is almost always a cluster-mess.
I paired the Extreme 41” workstation with a 11 drawer 42” Homak roller and for the most part has worked really well in keeping the tools organized.

My box stays organized..i work out of 5gal buckets alot. Its usually easier to move the tools around the shop to wherever the equipment is..than it is to move the equipment to the tools. But at the end of the day..it all goes back in its place in the box. The service trucks are a different story.

I can look a little for specialty stuff. I got a box just for it. The hundred or so common combo wrenches and another hundred or more common sockets are another matter. I love the thro back organization, just land it on the right peg or right bin. I have seen drawers somewhat similar and divided by size but exposed bins and hooks are even easier.
Last pic is the specialty/dupe box, remnants of sets stripped from on the service carts.

Yup I wipe my tools down at the end of the day with a de-greaser called whallop or if I'm going to do something small or interior work after a large job, I like to wipe them down and reset, and then I'll wipe down the rest at the end of the day. Keeps the tools clean and I don't have to grab ****** greasy tools in the morning.

At the end of a large job I'll have the whole top of the box covered with tools/old parts/etc that having a place to put everything back makes sure nothing gets lost too.

PS; A little moisture and my snap on pliers rusted pretty bad, surface rust/spots right in the joints and very very close to the cutting edge of the cutters. Any tips besides...steel wool? ***** because I kept them looking pretty damn clean like everything else. Dunno why they rusted so bad, the Blackhawks did a little but I hate rust

I just bought a new toolbox so it's really well organized. My old box was half and half but my new box is 100% organized.

I just find it easier to not have to search for 3 minutes for a tool.

Mine is an organized mess. I can tell you what drawer a tool is in but the tools are in that drawer and not in holders. If not in a drawer then usually where it is at because I have a split shop and some tools may end up on either side of the wall.
