Padlocks, hair trimmer, cutlery and cuffs.... That's an interesting assortment to find at someone's house..... Did you find any lotion at the same time, Outlaw? .. *silence of the lambs*

I recall a funny sale. In the basement was a room with a strange (maybe red iirc) bean bag chair, lots of very very large (not really womens size if you know what I mean) heels, and lets just call it a box of goods you wouldn’t want to touch or mention by name on garage journal. I remember a group of younger people walking the room with me and one guy reached in the box and pulled somethin out not realizing what it was. Let’s just say we all had a good laugh.

The rest of the basement was loaded with hunting, camo, and reloading gear!

Found at two estate sales yesterday, it was half off day at both of them.
The red Dixon tool box. 15 bucks.
2v2EtSLVnx9EDKg.jpg

4 file card drawers, 30 bucks...
2v2EtSL28x9EDKg.jpg

Not that good of a deal for either, right? Until you see what was in them...
In the red box... Top tray

The file card drawers were stuffed with brand new drills, in the packages, 95% of them having never been opened. Number drills from 27 to 48, letter drills, fractionals from 3/64ths to 9/32nds. Multiple packages of every one...

What was surprising to me was NO ONE had bought these... I jumped on them. :)

I hit up a couple of estate sales - one yesterday, one today. I got this little Atlas bandsaw- it's got a few problems, but nothing I can't fix. It's only a 10 incher - thought it was a 12. It's heavy enough; I'll bet 60 lbs. I've already got a stand and a motor, so now if I can get tires and blade bearings that should do it. They wanted $45 for it, but happily took my $20. Probably the only offer they'd had.
Today, I got a good deal on a bag of 15 Fleet sockets and a bag of 19 Craftsmans, all but 2 =V=. with a little luck I can flip the sockets for enought to cover the bandsaw.

... but probably not the parts I'll need to get it sawing.

Anyone know the significance of the shamrock on the Fleets?? AA didn't mention it.

First time posting here, I don't get the time to do a lot of yard saling, etc.

I did get as chance to pick this guy up from Facebook marketplace though, posted for $50, but has a broken mounting eat, so I was able to talk him down to $30.

Going to take some time to clean up... Kind of worried about the jaws, but we'll see how it turns out. This will be my first vice restore...IMG_20190331_171846.jpegIMG_20190331_171826.jpeg

I think it maybe a date code system or where they were made. Some of the protos and penens carry the same shape marks. Seen hearts as well.

Looking for the following Plomb Pebbles Wrenches 3061, 3070,

Well, folks, as our first quarter winds to a close, I checked our metrics against the last five years worth of Garage Sale annual threads.

Year -- posts before 1 Apr
2019 -- 2061 and counting...
2018 -- 2457
2017 -- 1832
2016 -- 2019
2015 -- 1638
2014 -- 1710

Of course, last year was Private Lugnutz' high water mark year for GD threads, so being on pace for second best is pretty good.

I'm impressed with the non-North America-based posters, including Europeans and Australians. Didn't we also have some from Asia and Africa?

The You ***** have been strong as well. Although I haven't been keeping a Little Green Book of Superb Suckage, this month's $10 baby bullet Wilton on a Powerarm stand was just one of the most memorable.

Spring is just getting started, so keep your eyes peeled for all sources that are fed by people cleaning their garages, basements and sheds of the kind of gear we like to bring home!

Cheers!

I did a lot of work on my parents' farm in VA this week, but I also snuck back down into the ravine behind the barn to see if erosion had unearthed any new buried treasures. Alas, no additional Coke machines. But I did find a lid for the big roached out Coca cola chest cooler downstream a ways.5f137716ff0419f4a416ebab8704b7f4.jpg0f5610961fab861af9b53f07109c5ec7.jpg

I brought back up to the garage. OSWMBO probably has it on Craigslist already.

Oh, and while I was down there, I peaked into an old oil tank and guess what I saw...

Practically mint! And thanks to last year's GS thread, we've got an extensive archive of data to figure out who made it and what thickness metal to use for patches...

Let’s wait for d42jeep to comment on that Jeep can. He knows a thing or 2 about dates on those cans. I’ve seen his collection.

That’s a nice one! I can’t wait to see it after restoration. With a little work you could make a vintage version of this. I think Username has more cans than I do, including one of these.

Part 2 of today’s grab...

Went for a toolbox, came back with a dog...

Not really, but it’s happened in the past!

Picked up this craftsman rally box to put my Grampa’s tools in. My Grampa only had tool bags that he carried his tools in for the pick a part, and a couple old tool boxes in his shed that my uncle now took over and locked everyone out. I doubt the tool boxes are in there....

But I digress....

I picked up a tool box to put the remainder of my Grampa’s tool into....

I just spent 5 minutes trying to figure out what the arrangement of tools spells out.
Maybe something to do with the date? I got A .... p .... r .... i
can't make out the rest.

Haha I wasn’t trying to spell anything. I dumped out the stuff from the bag I bought it, then organized it by maker.....

Lots and lots of different stuff....

By any chance did your buy include an Indestro 1/2" drive 1-3/16" or 1-5/16" socket? I'm trying to find them to complete my set. Thanks, Ed

I picked up another Craftsman radial arm saw, my eighth in the last year but my first 9 inch saw with the triangular base. The purchase came with a Craftsman crown-top owner's manual, a dado/molding blade, dado guard, seven saw blades, a stick-on sanding disc and a grinding wheel. The dado guard box also had a drill chuck and a drum sanding attachment. The whole deal set me back $40.07b375e2cc71a148db3dbe7f726ac5b5.jpg61aaa0eb2866cbfa170a93c864e7289e.jpg

I picked up this set of Harley Davidson Road King hard leather bags for $50! I have a heritage softail classic and have always disliked the studded leather soft bags that come with all of them from the factory. These wont be a direct fit but I was able to get a kit that I can modify to put them on the way I want.

Blue bomber, What do you do with all of those radial arm saws? Are you sending them in for the rebate or a collector?

Just picked this up for $50. Both boxes are dated Dec. '75 and it came with all 4 Crown-top logo keys. I'd been looking for this exact set for a while. I plan on fixing them up as a present for my dad.

I have scrapped most of them for the rebate, buying them for between $60 & free, and getting $100 each for the motor and carriages. I also now have a pile of leftover parts that I have already sourced to build a bench grinder stand and a power hacksaw stand (see below). I've decided to keep one, a first-year-of-production Power Bronze 10-inch 313.29001 made in 1958, primarily because it's such a cool survivor. I guess that also makes me a collector, too. 57617f7dd1e4338d05632df768569fec.jpg957b8775714c283e4fcb20c70a5945b2.jpg

I think Outlaws leather cuffs would look good dangling from the rear view mirror of his Galileo Star Trek Van.

Did my usual quick scan of CL and MP this morning and saw a listing for a lot of 5 tools. One horrible picture of each and zip for descriptions other than "old Craftsman machines". Only had an end view of this jointer but was able to ID it through a catalog. Also had a Long C drill press, a 50s table saw, a shaper with a super close up view of the table top which was no help and a sweet looking Long C metal lathe. All for 150 bucks. By the time I got the seller to answer me, the lathe and shaper were gone along with the table saw (which I didn't want anyhow).

Took a buddy with me after work and picked this up for 50 bucks. Looks complete minus one hand wheel (which I just might have). Hopefully the Walker Turner motor is salvageable. I decided to pass on the drill press (a 03581) as it was missing the pulley cover and spindle cap plus had a pretty bad arc of shame on the table. Seller was moving and wanted stuff gone so I got the press for another 10 bucks. If nothing else it can be a parts machine and another possibly salvageable WT motor. Fun evening although I wish I could have snagged that lathe.
