New-to-me Jack - Need help!

Just surfing CL tonight and came across an add for a 4 ton floor jack, name your price. I said $50 and pick it up tomorrow morning I THINK its a walker - based on pics i can find online and the guy said 'I think its a walker'.

I didn't even really care about the brand for that kinda money, and figured it would need a rebuild/resto.

Anyhow - Jack guru's, please tell me what you think i bought! Also, sell me a rebuild kit! lol

Its a Walker/Lincoln Jack, Looks like a 93657 but will need some more info, I can supply you a kit when we find out exactly the model number. I PROMISE i am cheaper than blackhawk parts, Not to mention they sell alot... alot of kits that have many years of shelf life.

Not to mention my prices on that kit are 20% cheaper than blackhawk, And yes i make myself available to my customers making sure they understand what they are doing and why.

Only thing I HATE about long frame jacks is you need damn near a football field to move it around and it always seems to be in the way. Not a big deal if you have a big shop though, but with a smallish 2 car garage... I wouldn't own one of those even if it was given to me.

The shop is 30'x30', SHOULD be enough room! I picked it up this morning, haven't had a chance to play around, but its all there and seemed to roll well. I have a suspicion that it might just be low on oil...

I WILL be restoring/rebuilding/refurbishing it very soon. Sucker weights about 200 lbs!!

There should be a tag somewhere near the base of the handle, Normally a silver riveted tag. Its either a 93657 or a J134 which is identical but a earlier Model. You might not need a kit, If it is in fact low on oil the next thing you need to do is find out where its leaking, OIL doesnt evaporate. LOL You will notice there is compression rings on the pumps and the Tank nut, You can try tightening these down to supress any oil passing. 1 tell tale thing to look for to guess the age is locate the oil fill plug, If its on resevoir its a newe model if it resides on the unit itself its a older model probably dates before Mid 70's im guessing. Nice find regardless... Even if you have to put a complete kit in that jack you are still gonna have less than $130 bucks in it and that model is still manufactured by Hein Werner and lists for around $1200.

Over 20 years of working in the shop with my grandfather watching, assisting him with rebuilding jacks and such. His knowledge was gained by fixing his own jacks, cylinders and such as he was a farmer, which eventually spread into working on Neighbors and other customers equipment by word of mouth etc.... Neither one of us have any actual schooling in the hydraulic field other than what we both have learned from first hand experience. Its hard to beat Hands on Training when it comes to mastering a craft, Now if only my Employer would take a hint and figure out you cant teach someone how to be a railroader by going to some college.

I work for Norfolk Southern, As far cold temperature use, it doesnt create much of a problem as long as your jack can create/Maintain enough suction and push to move the oil. For years My grandfather used Dollar general ****** fluid and never had any problems. I strictly use Hydraulic Jack oil and i buy by the Barrel. I cant recall the exact Weight and other info off the top of my head but it is a bit lighter than ****** fluid.

I beleive it works fairly well but does leak down at times. it has a lincoln hydralic unit that could be resealed if needed."

So, my question: Is this a good price and any suggestions on what to check if I go look at it? Thanks in advance!

Rebuilt kits are still available along with some Hard parts, Make sure you check the wheels for breakage etc as they can be a bit pricey to replace, Turn it over and check to make sure the resevoir where the Ram exits isnt damaged from dragging on the ground. A little wear is Ok but any major gashes will have to be addressed. If you have any questions feel free to contact me via PM.
