Give where I live, I thought the title appropriate.

You don't particularly see it all that often, but Bog is an interesting maker. I'll start off with a "Dandy" Socket set, as well as the insert for another 117f2d611b6c7125074d12fe49566348.jpgf0e53ca3371501481a10dc3347e2c18e.jpg4f775405734c2d822e81d3994f050e40.jpg60dbf6ad419a0f98b98b6c9fc74fce1c.jpg76085415a8e4963c14aa49c1d04e36ca.jpg3fe7748742d29f417e5ddb24b792e4c5.jpga0cb8caf25cec7257528ba98fa4155b0.jpg

Some Bog Ratchets.

A double ended socket, who's use I've forgotten, or never knew. 31/32" on one end and 1 5/32" on the other.cec559e589620995e9a2ee95d252a437.jpgadb7632d2945fb1a7a88906e949965b8.jpgbc6c89c62dcd9ecc44ff8f2592447d86.jpgcd336e581430d062983dc44d3131275d.jpgd2dfec9617fe1e41a4edfe6f41ea0003.jpg

Nice sets guys. That sockets in the handle is way cool.

I believe the stars are Indestro. [emoji106]
I have some Bog sockets with the star. In fact, that double socket I posted has one.

I think those are actually early Indestro sockets but maybe Bog used stars as well. These sockets don't all look exactly the same. The second picture is of some Bog marked sockets I used to have.

I don't think anyone has ever gotten to the bottom of this one. I only have two Bog sockets, both with a series of stars, and I don't collect early Indestro (are they only on the sockets with the really short walls? are the on any sockets with actual Indestro markings?), so I am ill-prepared to do a good empirical study. It has to be considered curious, at the very least, that they were both located in Chicago. Did they use a common forge?

Yeah, those are the hex and sq dr sockets I typically leave behind in droves at flea markets, Don. And I've read that section, and, as other have noted, including TA (when it was up!), Indestro sockets had one star on either side, whereas Bog had several. It could be just a coincidence or they picked up the habit from each other due to their proximity. Still awfully curious, though.

Couple interesting items for the sharp eyed reader in this BOG set advertised in a 38-39 catalog.

Right?! so this was in a Thorsen catalog. In the Portland Oregon General Tool catalog they marketed the same set but instead of "Mammoth" they called it the "General Mogul". Reminds me of the same name game today in Portland with the equally heavy "Craft Brews".....ummm.... how about "Terminator" Stout?

Hmmm. Now that's interesting. Milwaukee Tool & Forge called their heavy duty (3/4-inch drive) socket wrench set the "Mogul". See pages 26 and 28 in the 1929 catalog that Twertsy just posted at the end of the MTF thread. I wonder if it was a brief industry wide thing, like Senior, Junior, and Midget. I don't remember seeing it before MTF, and now Bog, vis-à-vis Thorsen, apparently.

Yeah, i think "Mogul" was just a more common word back then.

In the trend of "Mogul" meaning large, screw-in ("Edison") light bulbs were standardized with several base sizes. The current style was the most common, but there was a larger version for higher-wattage bulbs that was called the "Mogul" base.

I don’t see very many Bog tools around here so I grabbed this wrench at an estate sale this morning. It has a unusual shape and it is 5/8” at both ends.

Here is a smaller bog "dandy"set
OTG, what is the hex drive size? 7/16-inch? Please measure. Also, please post two (2) additional photos of just the ratchet, top and flip side. Thanks. EDIT: Also, what are the socket sizes?

Here is one set. Have a few other pieces.
Roy,
Does that ratchet have a plug in it? Does it step down from 11/16" (inside the ratchet opening) to 7/16" hex drive stud? Or what? Reason I ask is, it looks like one of those Ford Model T brake and reverse band ratcheting wrenches that Duro and others made. Almost as if someone re-purposed it. Unless Bog used the same ratchet wrench frame as a ratchet for one of their hex drive sets with a factory step-down drive plug. Please post photos of the ratchet wrench, top and flip side, as well as the drive plug. Thanks.
EDIT: Eyeballing the back of the plug, it does look like the same hex drive size as the sockets. But it sure looks like one of those Model T ratchet wrenches. I think that's what they did - use the same frame and just put a smaller hex drive plug in it.
EDIT 2: AA has your set (Multi-Fit) and an ad for it. They don't say anything about the ratchet being the same frame as the 11/16-inch Model T ratchet wrench, but it clearly is.

I also have this odd ball I picked up last year. A BOG partial set but what is this socket for? Is it for weather heads? No hex in it just a round tube with side milled out.IMG_20190703_210504562.jpegIMG_20190703_210510728.jpegIMG_20190703_210516500.jpegIMG_20190703_210523321.jpeg

Here's the reason for all the questions...

I am trying to figure out what kind of ratchet I should be looking for to complete this 1920's Dandy Socket Set.

attachment.php

attachment.php

It needs something to turn the sockets. I don't think it was an L-Handle, and it appears to be an earlier version of the 7/16-inch hex drive Dandy Socket Set that OTG is showing in post #31 upthread on this page, which came in a steel case, rather than a leather-clad fiberboard case. There is room for a ratchet and two (2) more sockets and maybe even a short extension.

The sockets I have are 7/16, 1/2, 5/8, 11/16, 7/8, and 15/16. Probably missing a 9/16 and a 3/4. For their time, they are really well-made, handsome pieces, machined, of course, not forged, and tempered and heat-treated, leaving some pleasant coloring in various places. Interestingly, only the largest socket is branded.

While seemingly a direct ancestor of OTG's Dandy set, curiously, it has the exact same label as the 1/2-inch square drive Dandy set that Todd is showing in a steel case in post #1, page #1 on this thread, and the same number and probably sizes of sockets as well.

attachment.php

It also has a smaller label on the ends.

This shows a set with the 7/16 ratchet, 8 sockets, several screwdriver bits.

https://www.ebay.ie/itm/Vintage-Bog-Mfg-Co-The-Dandy-Socket-Set-Rare-and-Collectible-Chicago-USA-/331821859539

Looking for the following Plomb Pebbles Wrench 3061

Would that tube have turned the L handle into a T handle?

T handle would be most likely. Have you tried it that way?

Same one here. 7/16 drive, no markings, which is normal.
