The L stands for lock and roll, the latch to keep drawer shut, also started the top full width drawer

I have a KR-1001 that has a full width top drawer. In fact, the KR1001 may be Snap On's first 2 bank with a full width top drawer. I do agree that it is the lock and roll feature for the drawers that makes the "L" in the KRL series.

It was the first bottom box with a full length drawer. They're were a couple top KR boxes before the 1001 that had a full length drawer.

On the same general topic then, how about the KRA series? They have the same full length top drawer as well as the lock and roll features. My understanding is the KRA has less of the features of the KRL, but perhaps is the same basically as the original KR series boxes were?

KRA is the entry level box. No 30 inch depth. Slightly less beefy than KRL.

Has BB slides and Lock 'n Roll, just doesn't feel like a KRL.

For starters I think the depth is way different. The KRA(Classic/Heritage) are like 22-24” deep and the KRL’s are 29” or so. It’s a monster difference. Because of that the KRL slides are bound to be much heavier duty than the KRA. I got some slides for my KRL1022 the other day from Snap-On to replace some sticky slides and each slide weighs 5#. The two sets of slides are 20#. They’re very heavy duty. Does the KRA have the same latch mechanism as the KRL?

The old KR series before the KRL or KRA series came out were the most beefiest boxes. I don't think they ever have any 18 gage sheet metal anywhere.

As an additional note, it's my opinion that the KRL boxes shouldn't have any 18 gage sheet metal anywhere for the amount if money Snap-on is charging for the boxes. They should be comprised of all 14 and 16 gage for the body and 12 gage for the caster mounts.

I have KRL and KRA bottom boxes. Niether one has lock and roll feature. Was that an option? I didn't buy them new. I will say, the difference is rather astounding between the two. The KRA is about as well made as any generic box.

Also on a double bank kr box there was no divider between banks, krl has the divider between banks like the corner trim
