Just had a bout of trouble with my furnace and found rare condition. The error code for ID fan pressure switch failed closed can also be caused by poor connection on the 5 pin ID fan/Igniter connector.

Board failed and I replaced and got the 3 red flash error code for switch failed closed, checked it out and it was obvious that the switch and wiring were OK.
Spent the next couple days thinking and tinkering with the furnace, even call an "expert" and was told the board bad ( I bought the board from him). Before removing and sending it back, I went thought and checked all my connection a third or fourth time and noticed that when I push on one of the wires in the five pin connector it moved. Made sure all were seated and furnace started.

A loss of external connection or open circuit can cause a false error code. Just thought I would put this out there.

Sounds like you replaced a good board instead of properly diagnosing the system the first time. At least you found the problem and your heat works now. Always check moles plug connections. I had to reclip wires in those moles plugs often. Nothing to those boards I think it’s brown or purple wires to the pressure switch. Goodman/ Amanda doesn’t have a great reputation among hvac techs for a reason. Yet if they are taken care of they can last 15-20 years

Yes this is correct yet how many do you run into that isn’t installed correctly. I did say they should last 15-20 years, same lifespan of most furnaces. Most go longer. Problem with Goodman equipment is many are installed by guys trying to be the cheapest bidders and cutting corners cause they aren’t being paid to do the job correctly

I come across just as many butchered carrier/heil/trane wreck furnaces and condensing units that look like they were installed by a monkey with ADHD as I do with Goodman stuff.

Molex plugs have become a fairly big problem. Used to be they were pretty durable - only rarely did I have a connector go bad. Now guys are carrying replacement molex wiring harnesses in the truck. Run into an electronic problem? Swap out the molex harness first!:shocking:

It had gotten so prevalent I ended up buying molex plug removal tools to R&R just the one pin that was defective. Takes a little time, but saved the customer the cost of the whole harness (one was wholesaled at $61!). But few have the time to do that.

1. The Furnace has served me well for over 15 years.

2. The original fault code was continuous flashing, reverse polarity. Unit in operation for 15 years no wiring changes, checked for good ground and neutral at the furnace. Bad Board.

3. Plug was fully seated and the pin did not make good contact. Just provided this to assist anyone that might get into a similar condition. The supplier of the board was unaware that an open circuit could cause a false error code.

It was not my original intention to start a ******* contest. It's time for me to leave.

It’s good info to share for others that may experience a similar situation
