Craftsman =V= ratchet identification

I just picked up this 1/4" =V= series ratchet from an estate sale. It needs to be rebuilt, but there is no part/model number on it. Does anyone have any clue what it might be?

Those ran from 1953 through 1956, before Sears was putting model numbers on their ratchets. Made by Moore Drop Forge. I doubt you're going to find a rebuild kit for it although who knows what can turn up from guys in here. They're very simple to disassemble and put back together. I suggest you take it apart, clean it up good, oil it and put it back together. Might just be years of gunk keeping it from working smoothly. Nice ratchet. Personally I think that's the best looking rat Craftsman every made.

Looks like it's in excellent condition, good find! I've scored a bunch of good ratchets at sales people we're almost giving away because they were rusty or didnt function properly, when all they needed was a good clean and oil. I agree, take er apart, clean out any gunk and use a light grease or oil to get it working again first. I've been using a white engine assy grease in my ratchets when I reassemble, and been working well. Too thin and wont gunk up, but stays put a bit better than a liquid oil.

I’ll third the notion.

Take it apart, oil her up, and go from there!

I bought this 1/4” drive Flying V ratchet that was frozen solid. After getting it apart and cleaning/oiling, it is back into daily use if I do wished.

Seems the older ones take a LOT to make them unusable.

The newer USA ones of the early 2000’s skip with the slightest load.

Good looking ratchet. Can’t wait to see what the insides look like! :beer:

Hello! I'm the Craftsman ratchet guy around here under a new name! (formally Dr. Doom).

Anyway, yes, there were repair kits for these ratchets! Contrary to my old research, I was actually able to obtain examples of repair kits for the "Boxhead" Raised Panel ratchets. They are likely the first Craftsman ratchet that had a repair kit associated with it. At this day and age, they are exceedingly rare.

I'll see what I can do to dig one up and take a photo of it.

How do I get the exact kit I need for this ratchet?Purchased in 2006-07
I believe it is the 43436 kit, but I'm not 100 0/0 sure yet. Can someone reassure me......

Easco warranty

I don't know if Easco is still in business. Are they owned by Dahaner? If the name isn't still being used, do you know if I can send in a broken breaker bar and get an equivalent replacement?

I got one for free 13 years like others ago by pretending I had a KD. The kit was no longer available at sears. If that is a 3/8" then the Sears kit should be 43436. There are some on ebay but they are $30 to $40. That ratchet was sold under so many different names. Allen. KD. Easco. And so on.
