 guys it’s a neat wrench. I meant to say no frills transaction.
I didn't mean no-frillsiest in a negative way, 3bay. It's a coolass wrench. You have to admit that the design principle is as simplistic as it comes, though. And not very dynamic. But effective! And cool to collect. I will definitely be on the lookout now! :)

Wish I had my old OTC cat handy because I want to look up the actual specs.
I have the 1939 and the 1947 and I don't remember seeing anything like this in either one, but I will check again. When do we think this was patented and made? EDIT: No adjustable wrenches turning up in DATAMP or Google Patents for OTC, either. We have a stumper.

Some "Good" finds at the flea market this "Good Friday" morning...

And I forgot to include this Esso Happy Motoring Key Club key fob.

I don't even know why I picked this up. Last thing I need is another automotive knickknack niche to look for. Has to be no earlier than 1964 (Zip Code) and no later than 1972 (when Esso became Exxon). Maybe that's why. My boyhood years! :)

IIRC the Tiger in Your Tank promotions were pretty well spent by 1965/66. (My Dad had one of those tiger tails hanging from the filler cover.)

Not much going on sales wise around here, but there was an estate sale on the way to my barber, so I stopped in and picked up the following:

Ace T&D set, Plomb and P&C drivers, small drill index, P&C deep socket, Proto LA chisle, Stanley socket chisel, the woody with the familiar handle is a Chevron, a small film canister (great for small screws) Williams water pump pliers and a set of Vacuum Grip side cutters. Also some books:

Here is a close-up of the Ace lable:

And the drill index

I paid a bit much for the T&D set ($20), as I love that label, so $32 for everything.

Lugz, you and three bay found some rare ones! I've never seen the ignition pliers with the bumped handles, and that big "adjustable"! But 3bay, it says right on it, 2-7/8" max! 4" would over-stress it I'm sure.

You’re right about that Outlaw, a later model says 2-7/8 on the head as well. See link.

Here’s what it looks like at 2-7/8”. It’s confusing that the jaw doesn’t line up with the MAX mark. Another one I see online has a line on each half marked at that Max point, but the lines look like they could have been done by the owner, idk.

They must have branded the same wrench for Blackhawk way back...[ ]...Also a Wright version, in 36”.
Maybe we'll have better luck finding it in a Blackhawk cat. It's not in the 1930 or the 1947 OTC.

IIRC the Tiger in Your Tank promotions were pretty well spent by 1965/66. (My Dad had one of those tiger tails hanging from the filler cover.)
Good to know! Thanks Prospecter!

BMW the wood handle on the right is a P&C or a Plvmb? or is that the one you are saying is Chevron?

That is the Chevron. I have a few other Chevron marked Proto tools (they have a refinery not too far from where I lived in the east bay) but this is the first woody I have found.

And thanks on the Ace T&D!

A genuine no frills Craigslist buy. Picked up this OTC 24” adjustable for 20 bucks. Met a cool dude who’s into garages and Jeeps but not a GJer. In addition, picked up a pair of Williams ratchets he had for sale.

attachment.php

Any other numbers on it under the rust? Certain Caterpillar tool groups used this style.

I don't usually go to garage/estate sales on opening day, but this one was right on the way to somewhere else. Nice big sign I could see in plenty of time to make the turn. I grabbed the two gas/oil cans because I have one I use for waste oil that has a leaky lid. These are in much better shape, and hey, the old one is worth probably half a buck at the scrapyard!
The vise is a little guy, only about 15 lbs and 3", but it's a Simplex, in very good shape, and appears to be quite stout. Does the "Desmond" marking give any indication of age?

And yes, I know NOT to EVER use that hardy!

Usually there's no dealing on opening day, but they knocked $7 off the marked price on this batch. Woo hoo!

Bought a tool box advertised as containing “snap on, craftsman, etc”...

Paid $50 for it and got a complete set of semi deep metric 3/8” drive snap ons, and a bunch of USA craftsman, a couple proto and such.

Out of the tool box, these are what I pulled out as having value. The rest are no name/foreign....

I feel like I got $50 worth of tools....

Lugz, you and three bay found some rare ones! I've never seen the ignition pliers with the bumped handles...
Here’s a pair branded for Bonney. (That’s the seller’s claim - I see model no.B424 referencing “ChannelLock” in the 1941 Bonney catalog, but the eBay item does not have “Bonney” on it that I can see. Lugz’s pliers are no.424 with no “B” so I guess the claim is right.)
I bet Lugz did not pay what this eBay seller is asking.

We hit two estate sales today. One was sparse and the other was a total bust.
Got some Irwin clamps along with some Craftsman. My favorite was a small P&C DOE.

I hit a yard sale this AM and an estate sale early afternoon:

The clamp was a buck, and its not even frozen!

attachment.php

This "fuel station" holds 14 gallons, has wheels in back to you can cart ti around easily, and I think its for use on a doc to get fuel to smaller boats. Guy claimed it had diesel, it has that smell, with maybe a half gallon left? Missing the nozzle and that think in the middle is to hold the hose. if the boat is below dock height it's gravity feed. For three dollars it wasn't getting left...

attachment.php

The estate sale had a ton of books but the below are the more interesting ones of the 8-9 I brought home.

attachment.php

attachment.php

I also got some older but in new condition 35mm camera accessories for SWMBO whose B-Day is coming up. Probably the most useful is a ring light for mounting around a lens. No pis as its a secret, til her B-day, (maybe if she goes shopping or something)

3bay, a 25/32 hex was standard for 7/16" U.S.S. bolts (not "cap screws", which were 5/8" hex) before SAE took over. Now it is 5/8" hex for bolts and 11/16" hex for the nuts. If you had the original nut on there, it would also be 25/32" hex.

Lots of nice finds gents! Must be 1/2" drive week for me. The BE set is a conglomeration of 4 different buys ranging from CL, MP, flea market and a garage sale. Managed to put together a 17 piece catalog set (minus a 10" extension and the blasted T bar) in the last 10 days. The Circle U set is as purchased and missing only a 9/16 socket. The finish (satin chrome) on the sockets is the best finish of any Circle U stuff I've snagged so far.

Lugz,

I wish I had my Matchbox collection!

I posted several better post-cleanup close-ups of the TUFFY screwdriver in a TUFFY thread, linked here

Thanks for the follow up post, great pics and the site with the history was really interesting.

Good news for me: I still have my Matchboxes and Hot Wheels!

Nice collection, Bruce! (Love the wrecker and the pink trailer!) Just make sure you leave a note in your will about their value! :) And I will defer to this year's host, but Matchbox would not be too far off topic here. It's collectible, it's automotive related, and we're all still just boys at heart!

So i went to a estate sale this morning, mainly cause I never seen the company that was running it. They advertised that they had CCTV and security on the property!:wtf:

I got there a little late and I wasn't too disappointed due to all the prices was high. I found 4 cameras setup around the house, and to my best of knowledge they had 5 plain clothes security personnel walking with the crowds. This is based on how they we're walking around watching people and wasn't really picking up any items but was trying to blend in. Either way I ended up with a few tools of interest, snap on sockets of different size, a vlcheck wrench and bonney wrench. Along with assortment of cement/concrete tools since I have a few cement projects coming up. Got it all for $10

Just one grab today...this older oval logo, Proto Professional 15 piece satin chrome SAE long pattern combo wrench set, 5/16" to 1-1/4". Non-ASD open ends. Unused.

All have L after part number except 5/16 which appears to be a factory std length included by mistake as it matches. The 1-1/4" wrench is 20" long.
With vinyl roll. Maybe 90s-00s?

$80

Pretty good day that got threatened by some light drizzle that was not in anyone's forecast.

Only one early sale (7:30) but it was he main event and the main frustration; I was competing against two "re-seller Pros" (Low ball wonders too) for every box that came out.

Three of us digging and they took the "Grab most of it and sort later" tactics. THEN as they tossed stiff back in literally on top of my hands as I continued to dig (and made some good finds), I swore at one of them for that ****, and I'm going to be much more aggressive/defensive the next time they try that garbage. I'm lucky to still have all my fingers... If they go too much further and actually injure me, the may find them selves under arrest for assault & battery. (Can you tell I'm pissed? )

In any case, despite then getting the lions share, I did OK.

CL440, and 420 (Champ Dearment), Porto, No name (left Laser retc n gone?), Proto Circlip pliers, P.T. Co Piers, and decent but no name needle nose, KD brake shoe tool, Mini Pry bat, no name wood chisel, Irwin adn Mac drivers, and a Fuller Brush, wire brush!

attachment.php

Chain saw file, Proto, Mahews, Craftsman, and Old Forge punches, Air gauge, mag top bit driver extension mag top stick, secl centering drill bit tool SF worlds fair ice pic (almost certainly a copy) 3 brass auto punches all working..., Craftsman mini Try square, Cain Capet cutting knife (always wanted one of these) Schrade Unckle Henry pocket knife barely used never been sharpened, V-Tech knife, 3 prong plug and a HUGE chuck key. The Fiskars Pruners have the rolling grip for the fingers. This one is right handed; I got one last year that was left handed.so now I can do double fisted pruning!

attachment.php

Mostly craftsman and mostly Metric! (The pros were not grabbing so maybe without the Sears warranty so handy, they don't sell as well? :dunno: )The 5 up front were the only SAE. The ratchet wrench is 14MM Blue point, one CM and one Easco (RHFT) 1/4" ratchets, an rebuild kit for something (was still on the box and bag) and 2 4" adjustables - Diamoloy, and Crescent - almost missed the Metric Allan's. -Almost gfogot the bag, NOS Craftsman 5 pc metric set from 10-14 mm.

attachment.php

Sockets! Lower right are all craftsman from the deeps downm, al but the front row metric, cornwell inpacts above that, then 2 Snap-on with 2 extensions, and Mac (impacts to the left), Williams, SK on top with the extension, a socket for a sensor or brake switch, 3 thorsen, Indestro extwnsion adn both SAE adnMM sockets, Proto/Plvmb, then three wrenches, I misse in the other pic, Craftsman and Proto.

attachment.php

Klein Swedish made hacksaw, with a 45deg mounting position for the blade, and extra blades in the main frame tube, Lead Hammer, an "ABC" bodt hammer, (I wonder if some Asian co. took that from Anybody But China? :lol_hitti ), and a lighter version < 2 lbs?) of the hewing hatchet by AmericanAx? - Glassport PA.? (American AX Co, turn of the century company! 1889-1921? )

attachment.php

And lastly for this stop, a B&D bit driver set, Dog leash screw that will go into camping as another high wind, soft soil stake, a 24" long SO speeder! and a True Craft breaker that I literally had in my hand and one of the pros tried to pull it from me. He lost... :pimpflash It wasn't the tool so much as the principle... :fawk:

attachment.php

The young lady giving me a price had just had a long discussion with one of the pros, about prices, he tried to bulldoze her down adn she stuck up for her price! He'd gotten a steal of a deal from her grandmother earlier an tried to use that to get her down, and she told him basically "take it or leave it - My grandmother gave you way too low a price I'm not budging!":thumbup::thumbup:

My Price? She asked $32, I countered $30 and she said $31, We both laughed saying "its a garage sale!" and I gave her the $31.

Later sales next:

All the other sales started late, so this was trip 2: A few things at the first stop,

Stanley Hacksaw blade holder, Toy hammer (this will replace the one missing from the set my son had as a child), Odd hammer for peening? I've seen these but am drawing a blank.., Archer (Radio Shack) Needlenose, and a bunch of Lead cables, (I needed these..) six bucks all

attachment.php

the next stop was a TOO moving sale, and this was all from the free pile:

1/2" all thread, an umbrella, and A finger-jointed oak tray for legal sized files/papers. - I'l probably use it for in progress small project materials.

attachment.php

Last two stops were a bust

I went to 2 E-Sales this morning and there was nothing of interest. We hit a nearby Restore store and found some goodies.

A pair of Oldaker 486-6 test leads for a DMM - which will work fine with my Craftsman DMM.

A pair of Burndy OH25 Hytool electrical crimpers. I'm hoping to flip these.

Cheers

Jim

We went to an estate sale this morning put on by a company known to be expensive and they didn’t disappoint so I only brought home a few tools. A couple of the Snap-on sockets were interesting. The Williams extension has a hand stamped AT-8708 on the shaft. A couple of Barcaloy wrenches and an Xcelite adjustable wrench that I picked up due to my nutdriver fetish.

You know all that paranoia about Facebook learning too much about you? Well, Facebook Marketplace seems to know my tastes well and popped up an ad under "Today's Picks" for a Roper & Whitney Pexto 298C circle shear. Now, I need a circle shear about as much as a fish needs a towel, but the going rate for one of these is north of a thousand dollars and this guy was asking $300. I messaged him and after determining parts were missing, I got him to agree to $200.

The machine is pretty neat. You clamp a piece of sheetmetal in the "C" on the left and slide it away from the cutting wheels until you get the diamater you want. Then, you tighten down the cutters and start cranking the gears to rotate the cutters, which rotates the sheetmetal, resulting in a perfect circle. The shear is missing the central rotating clamp "disks" that hold the sheetmetal and the hand crank that drives the big gears on the side. I've requested a parts catalog from Roper & Whitney to see how expensive the issing parts might be. Once I give it a light refurb, I'll put it up for flipping.

On the way back from getting the shear, I stopped into my new favorite ReStore andhit pay dirt again.

Millers Falls 525 "Buck Rogers" keyhole saw
2 Klein Tools No 702 Magi-slot compass saws--heavy!
Task Force drywall saw
Stanley 15-309 hacksaw blade holder--just like the one Outlaw found today
Small Huot drill index
Utica Tool 61-8 adjustable wrench
P&C stubby DBE
Ideal No 30-582 ratcheting coax crimper
3 12"-long spade drill bits--one is a Speedbor
Malco 12" metal shears

Price was 3 items for $2, so I paid $8.50!

In the 1/4 in craftsman set the ratchet says A-AF does that mean it was replaced? Rest of the kit says Made in USA.

Has anyone tried those craftsman power wood bits? They look very thin and dangerous.
