Here ya go Outlaw, just popped up on Facebook marketplace for $1000! [emoji39][emoji39]

I appreciate the effort, :pimpflash but nothing after 73 - they got way too heavy for good mileage, did not offer the 1600 Kent engine, and 73 gets me out of smog testing... :3gears:

I stuck a cam, ****** intake (webber staged 2bbl) and a header on one 1600, and decked the block for more compression and it would get second gear scratch in the heavier 74 wagon... Still got 30 MPG

Ayup from Yorkshire!

Found this little nugget at a Car Boot sale this morning and throught it worth posting up here (No not the bottle opener!) :

BRIDGEPORT Hand Vise, Made in USA.

Lovely little thing with some nice features you don't see on many hand vises, such as the square notch in the centre of the jaws and the rounded frame that makes it comfortable to hold.

DSC_1398.jpg
DSC_1397.jpg

Quickly cleaned it up with some WD40 and Wet&Dry paper and she's ready for use.

DSC_1405.jpg

Are these common in America?
Is it the same Bridgeport as the machining centres?

Possibly a rebranded Millers Falls, though this doesn't have the center notch in the jaws.b17bfbed3465b4cdda58bdf4d6dc1f63.jpged3255ba9484670660473e4d4796355d.jpg64d1866c252f1f34fb29d091c50247b8.jpg

First time poster. I've been lurking this thread long enough, so thought it's time to introduce myself. Found this thread while searching parts for a 4" wilton bullet I was working on, and ever since you guys have gotten me to pick up several other vises!

Current vises:
4" Wilton Bullet on swivel base
3.5" Reed No. 203 1/2 on fixed base
3.5" Simplex No. 330 on swivel base
3" Columbian No. 143 on fixed base (broken)
2" Wilton hobby vise (wish it was a baby bullet)
1 7/8" Stanley Sweetheart clamp on vise.

Hopefully more to come.

Anyways, as soon as I get enough posts I will post photos.

-Ivan
Sounds like you are well on your way. There's a lot more going on around here than just vises, too, in case your interests extend past clampy-holdy things, and lots to learn and/or contribute. Welcome!

So the guy I bought the 8” Parker 60X ended up being willing to grab a pallet for me and umm bolt the vise down to it for me so that I can have a trucking company pick it up and bring it to me.

He sent me a picture of the finished product today! :lol_hitti

Wow. Apparently half-assed was too much to ask.

How much friction do you think you'd get if you got him on the phone and explained what those funny holes on the bottom of the vise were for? You might also have to introduce him to the term "2x4" and walk him through the concept of lefty loosey, righty tighty, but if it means the vise stays attached to the pallet...

Hand vises are not uncommon here, but marked ones less so. I would agree with Trijeff that it is probably a rebranded Miller’s Falls. My no. 3 MF only has the vertical notch on one side but also has a horizontal notch, also only on one side.

Not the Bridgeport machine co. but rather the Bridgeport Hardware Manufacturing Co. They made high quality tools.

Today is a day for prayer.

I'll take your word for that. In my house it's a day of laundry and yardwork.

Are you saying that Andrew can't call until tomorrow, or that he's praying that the vise stays attached to the pallet?
I’ll give the seller an A for effort but pipe strapping, drywall screws and twine are no match for a 60X.

Shiftless, probably picking up more knowledge than anything around here with so much experience all over the place. I am simply a Power Plant operator staying busy with plenty of hobbies in the garage.

Va, you're not lying. Since I've started picking them up, I can't help myself keep looking for them. All I hear is my GF saying, "Another one!?" Haha.

Dark, definitely into other things as well. Just yesterday I picked up a Craftsman power hacksaw and two weeks ago I picked up an Atlas 618 lathe. Need to really finish setting up the small lathe so I can fiddle around with it.

I just made a trade deal for this Athol no. 103 vise but I don't know much about it.

I bought a vise today to flip, needs a good cleanup and paint but while I was there I saw the guy had a Rock Island 542-bx 4-1/2" jaw combination vise. Messy with oil etc, but jaws weren't bad at all, I think it would have cleaned up well. He didn't want to sell, I tried to talk him down but we only got to $225 upon which time I walked away. What do you guys think price wise? Would YOU have walked away?

Besides the Wilton vises, all of them need to be cleaned and worked on. Just need to find the time.

Well, I believe you're like me, I have a soft spot for Rock island vises. When this 542-bx came available on FB last year I dropped everything to go get it (only 15 mins away). I can't remember what I paid but it was somewhere around 100. 225 seems steep to me, don't know if I'd pay that. But RI combos are rare. For perspective I also got a Reed 2C for 150, so I think that would be my personal max.

Gravity and inertia are of some use......

The last two times I handed vises to a freight company to palletize:

1) two big vises - “hey can you strap those on?” “Got something better!” Puts pallet though pallet Shrink wrapper machine, creating a vise cocoon
2) the last big Record - arrived on a third of a pallet, unsecured. I had to crowbar the pallet off the vise as it embedded into the pallet rather well

I would hold everything else on the truck in your thoughts.....

Interesting vise on craigslist today. Gonna try and grab it tomorrow. There is also a big 8inch Wilton o. Phoenix craigslist for 600 I believe. 8b5711707db142a4b492bcd86a695963.jpg

For $100 I would have jumped at it. It is a great looking vise for sure, and like you say not exactly common. I think he was dreaming a bit at $225 though. I offered him $150, he came down a whopping $25 from his original quote!

Yeah, I’ve had a couple of delivery nightmares as far as pallets are concerned. People don’t realize what happens to a huge chunk of metal when you hit the brakes. I had an 800lb press arrive at my door on a damaged pallet with parts missing once, I was livid.

I'll be the glass is half full guy!

Chances are even if that monster Parker 60x ended up banging around in a semi trailer a bit, it would probably pale in comparison to not only the heavy work it was designed to do, but also the actual beatings it's taken over the last 80-100 years.

Let's all hope because I personally can't wait to see it compared to the Reed 108. Something tells me it may be one 8" vise that might just dwarf the Reed.

just finished giving my Columbian 204 1/2 M a bit of a refresh. Had enough oil and black finishes so went a little different with the color.
