Garage sale yesterday at lunch. Missed the early rush, but picked up a 1 3/4" Proto combo wrench for $10, 2 US made pullers for $10, 3 Yankee screwdrivers for $20, two Stanley and 1 Lufkin boxwood rulers for $15, brave and a few bits for $5, and a small bag of mostly Yankee style bits for $4.

I did miss taking a picture of the 63 Studebaker Avanti that parked behind me at the sale. He took off before I got the tools put in the Jeep.712d1352222d1a9da9ace4cbbc2b51ba.jpg365d5803547464b49eca055ee0344d01.jpg23b6ccaabdf90a8509c125c43cdfd3ec.jpgc4d8821b0ad92e49dbb6810f4ccf3b83.jpg3a0aa45ba6bdf2fa9a252c7692c15600.jpg

There was only one sale on Craigslist that looked promising and we arrived one minute after it opened. Much to my surprise we were not only the first customers but the only customers the whole time we were there. It was at an old marina on the SF Bay with quite possibly the worst road leading to it in the state! The first picture is the Craigslist ad. Next is the whole haul, followed by the Craftsman. Snap-on is next, followed by S-K and PowrKraft. The last item is a Bell System torque wrench that I just had to have. Anybody know who the manufacturer was? Before anyone asks, I left the Snap-on toolbox behind due to not having one more square foot of garage space to put another box.
-Don

I have one of those torque wrenches, and they are exactly the same as the Snap-on. So, whoever made them, made them for both. CDI, if they were around at that time, I am guessing.

I’ll probably take it apart tomorrow and clean it up. Maybe there will be some clues inside. Here is the Bell System label.

This came FREE (can have it-if i fix it) basket case deal. My son and i figure it had major "tool hit work" collision that bent main shaft and damaged gear where u couldn't tighten it to the shaft. He made new shaft and made a "top hat" repair to the gear. Also put new main shaft bushing in it.
Video of it running reel good.
If i put WW2 in the youtube title no one can make comments?

Spent the last few days wandering around the other half of the state, and the neighboring two. Not much at most of the junk shops I stopped at but did find the Snap-on ratchet and P&C breaker bar for $20. Also, the last Restore I stopped at was a gold mine, lots of Craftsman, Proto, Snappy and MAC. I only grabbed what I could use (trying not to buy stuff willy-nilly) and got the Cornwell extension, Snap-on sockets, flex, and short extension, some Proto and Plomb and holy of holies, a Snap-on Woody! Someone screwed up the tip, so I will have to reblade it, but totally worth it.

So, I have been one busy guy the last few weeks. I can sum it all up in two words... Remodeling and OverTime. I did get out to a few sales and found some stuff as I always do.

Here are a couple of my last few hauls I haven't gotten posted yet!

I found quite a few things in the last few weeks, Snappy Ignition set, 3" Desmond simplex vise, 3 WF38 in one-day al different, Wrenches and Hammers, even a vacuum tester. I think my best deal was a KitchenAid stainless refrigerator. It was one I stumbled upon right when I started my kitchen remodel. got it for $400 !!

And then..... Today... I went to the HUGE PAte swap meet at the Texas Motor Speedway. There was soo much stuff I only got about a 1/4 of the way through it. About midday I came across a vendor with some vises and just all around stuff that we all look for. I talked to this guy for a bit and we made a deal on a really neat jewelers vise. Afterwards, I mention Garage journal to him.. "OH yea Im on there.. BlueBolt.... " WHAT!?!?! Out of a half billion people there I stumble upon another GJ'er! I told him I was RagtopTA haha we chatted a while and I went on my way. Super cool dude. Nice to meet ya Brian! My very first GJ'er find in the wild!

Pictured are some Bay and Sale finds. Plomb box, 1/2 sockets even a Plomb LA, DBE, Chisel and punch, and a really nice Paschall hammer head I will re-handle. Blackhawk, SnapOn, and Duro sockets, A snappy pick, various wrenches, Bell Systems cutters, Odd ball wrench with the number 27-T-350 and one of those gearless ratchets to match my little one. Also a Mosssberg speedster.

also pictures is a Firestick set I spied for a bit more then I wanted to pay.

Long work day capping off a long work week, but today I managed a long (for me) lunch hour and got to a sale marked "old vintage tools garage full!"

For once it was no lie!

Lots of good stuff and lots of really interesting stuff!

I started with the Wrench braced shelf brackets. for a buck Ea, why not?. The gut hook knife is I believe for fishing, so for LARGE fish! I'll replace the missing scales, and possibly re-cut the scalier teeth to real saw teeth and this would be a good field dressing knife.
A leather/rubber punch, a Rowe Products MC spoke wrench; Sizes 1-6; larger is smaller? 20 ga shotgun brush, couple of awls, a threaded handle perfect to take a drill chuck, part of a wood chisel, and part of a combination square.

attachment.php

A Holo Chrome box, not sure if the allens inside are HC yet, three drivers, Two are Goodell Pratt, Punches - Bluepoint, Proto, Starrett, union, Mayhews, and the set of Proto easy outs, one is a dupe size and Plvmb, the smallest one is missing.

attachment.php

Some interesting ones here: Multi wrench, a Victor "any size" cam wrench (is this the model for all those cheap Asian jobs?), Greenfield 90 degree pipe wrench (1913 patent date) odd Eagle Claw Wrench Co pliers - (1912 patent date), C. Mfg, Bicycle wrench tire tool? :dunno:, Barns Tool Co Auto/bicycle wrench, Modern Crescent, Spring grips. Swedish smooth duck bills, SO mini Slip joints, And just last weekend I said I had never seen a Channel lock No. 24, now I have a pair NOS with the bag!

attachment.php

Four Plvmb and Proto wrenches, Indestro, Duro, Mac Metric, New Britain, Long C craftsman DBE

attachment.php

And Sockets, LOTS of Sockets! Starting upper left counter clockwise: 7 Cornwell, 6 SO, 1 Mac 2 Williams, 2 Apex, Double male extension, 2 New Britain, 3 Indestro, 9 Plvmb/Proto, 3 carberettor, a busted handle 3/8 RHFT, (make this a stubby? of maybe my own "spinner? Hmmm), the big ratchet si about as primitive as I have seen - no real makers marks... The champion Plug Mate still in the box, A wright swivel, anda few odds and ends from bonney, Long C craftsman and couple unmarked.

attachment.php

All told it was just under a buck each.

Nice job. Enjoy your vids. Missing the stool the operators sat at pushing bar stock thru, probably their favorite operation.

Decent 'small haul' this morning at the flea market.

Another unique Schollhorn pliers for the Schollhorn collection. These appear to be textile related.

Unbranded slugging wrench.

Bonney 2555 special wrench. I'll look it up later. I suspect aircraft industry.

Everything to the right of the big crowfoot is MAC. Some strange special 3/8-inch drive pieces and a DBE. Also possibly aircraft related.

Much slower today and it took 5-6 stops to even get this much.

Some movies I wanted to see and one I wouldn't mind seeing again 3 bucks

attachment.php

Smaller Padded camera bad - always useful, Smallest Jorgensen's wood clamps available, so I'm up to three now, Older Williams socet adn wrench - marked "Superwrench" on the far side - is this the first gen Superwrench? I like the beam!. Proto breaker, and a Toyota wrench. with one small score:
the box is a light meter, Seven bucks all

attachment.php

A $5 mic for my youngest daughter who is getting into some vid making, and a NOS pair of work gloves for a buck

attachment.php

And a couple were listed after I got back so I went to two more. the black box is a light meter, which I will need to sort out measurements, but could be useful comparing lanterns and mantles. The pin went on my hat, and the Lane box is the first one I ever found that came with a key! A buck for the Lane box and the rest was off the free table

attachment.php

A come down from yesterday, but that was an exceptional stop. The light meter should be fun.

Hit an estate sale this morning. It was supposed to start at 10am but at 9:15 they said come on in. Me and an older couple were there. The sellers were a couple in their early 40s probably. Selling the contents of their grandparent's, then parent's former home. They plan to bulldoze the house and build a new home on the lot. Anyway, nice couple and I picked up a few tools. Bought everything in the pics at this estate sale for $25 with the exception of the JFK presidential art medal which was picked up at another estate sale on the way home for $1.

IMG_8514.jpg
The Craftsman Crown creeper is in really nice shape. One of the casters needs a little grease. Even the leather head rest is still in great condition. I'll see if my son-in-law wants this otherwise I'll move it on.

IMG_8517.jpg
Starting in the lower left corner: 2 Johnson fishing rod holders, Supreme Versamatic screw driver thing, Challenger box with a few GTD taps & dies, unmarked box with a set of unmarked sockets & ratchet/etc, JFK art medal, copy of a Republic of Texas $2 note, 27" screw driver (Taiwan), 2 3.5" clamps, set of Dunlap wrenches, Petersen vise-grips, Proto pliers, Proto 5257 3/8" flex head ratchet with 5253 3/8"-1/2" adapter, Klein torx driver, snap ring pliers (japan), ratchet set (Duro? Indestro?), 5 ignition wrenches (top twi - Plomb WF-102 7/16", WF-99 5/16", remaining 3 - Duro-Chrome), Bray 2-jaw puller (is this made by Armstrong?), Lufkin 6' brass & aluminum folding rule, sliding bevel gauge, 1/2" Thorsen combo & Nicholson file.

IMG_8518.jpg
Supreme Versamatic reversible screw driver and speed reducer for power drills. Everything is still in fantastic condition. Anyone still use something like this? If so why? :)

IMG_8524.jpg
Not exactly sure how these fishing rod holders would have worked. Clamp the holder to the side of a boat or onto a dock railing and the rod gets put into one of the holes? Interesting and made in Texas no less.

IMG_8520.jpg
The GTD (Greenfield Taps & Dies) taps, dies & holder.

IMG_8521.jpg
IMG_8523.jpg
No maker's mark on these tools. The ratchet has the following info stamped towards the end of the handle - "PAT NO. 1798481 Chicago U.S.A.". Anyone know who made it, when it would have been sold and any idea what would have been in the full set? Thanks for any info!

EDIT: Searching on the pat no it appears the patent was issued to Edward H. Peterson and Norris F. McNaught patent March 31, 1931. It was "used as the driver handle in some DURO socket sets." So I reckon this is a Duro set.

I was at Pate Swap Meet in Fort Worth TX, selling Ford parts, tools and vises. A guy bought something from me, we started talking and it turned out to be RagTopTA! I got around a little bit and bought a few things.
Tonka shovel crane and Structo cattle truck $100
Craftsman belt driven grinder and motor from the 1930's, love the blue badge! $15.
Box full of airplane models for $35, already sold for $65.

Town-wide yard sale today. I totally missed it, or would have had not SWMBO been out on errands and texted "Shall I come pick you up?" Love that woman!

Unfortunately, all three stops were no joy for me, but SWMBO picked up some baskets, so she was happy. We then went out to a matinee/late lunch for the new Avengers movie, which is three hours long(!). When we got out, we popped over to a nearby ReStore, which was very well organized in the tool department. Unfortunately, the prices reflected the organizers' efforts. I did find two items that made me open up my wallet, to the tune of $11.

Craftsman Long-C Vanadium DBE
Millers Falls No 170 Buck Rogers-era push drill--my third MFBR tool in three weeks!

On the way home, we swung by one of the original stops, a fundraiser that was putting their unsold items on the curb. For a ten-dollar donation, SWMBO loaded up the back of the car with yard art material, and I grabbed the 2" sleeve coupler.30d49b2decf988802293fc6af8f63a7e.jpg

We went to a few sales in the San Leandro area of the East Bay. The first three were busts but we found some worthwhile tools at the next three. The first picture is from the first viable sale. The second shot is from the second sale. The third sale had a couple of carry boxes along with the tools. The fourth picture is everything, followed by a King **** combo wrench, some Thorsen and some S-K tools.

Don't post in the garage sale forum often but figured this warranted a post. Friday was the big Minnesota swap meet. With the likely hood of 6+ inches of snow Friday night. I took the day off of work to go. Drove a little over the 3 hours one way. This place was packed. I ended up parking just under a mile from the swap grounds. Carrying my trusted wagon I began going through the lines. After 5 hours of non stop picking here is the haul that I have taken pictures of. Have a few more items yet.
Pic 1: Plomb. As some of you know I am pretty fond of Plomb. I try to buy it any chance I get. About half way through the day I spotted a Plomb wrench for a buck so I picked it up. I thought I better look a little closer and found another one for a buck. After a little more digging I find this cool whip container with some igintion wrenches. Find 1 then 2 then finally 14 plombs all together include the amazing small and hard to find micro pear 1/4" ratchet. I didn't see a price tag on what they were. So I ended up asking the guy who ran it. He said how's a quarter a piece sound. I was jaw dropped.
Also picked up my second Woody screwdriver and some misc sockets for a dollar or less.
Then I found my first 16" dual marked adjustable wrench. Had to pay $25 for it but not a terrible price.

Pic 2 and 3. I socket set for $5. Mostly SK Chrome and Craftsman BE.

Pic 4 and 5. Next tool box $20. Had quite a few CAD tools (Plomb, Snap On, and Wright)
Also there is a set Craftsman 3/8" =v=. 4 ratchets including Armstrong, Master Mechanic, Imperial, and None Better. A few older Blackhawk pieces and a single nuggie socket.

Pic 6, 7, 8, and 9. 1/2 socket set. OTC and Duro Chrome ratchet. What appears to be early SK or Indestro sockets. The box appear to look like the old Indestro. Also a sprinkling of Plomb, OTC, and other USA sockets.

Pic 10, 11, 12. Some misc drive tools including what I think is a rare Vlchek Speeder. Most were a buck except for the Blackhawk Spinning Tee that I need for my C-32 set. Other dollar speeders include Craftsman BE and a Truth.

Pic 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19. All of these were a dollar or less. Some highlights a proto body hammer, a small brass ball pein, proto LA and snap on distributor ratchet wrench attachments, Stanley bevel, Amco ratchet, Snap On SO sockets X3, 2 vacuum grip pliers, a slew of DBEs from Mac, Hexo (Blackhawk), Blackhawk, Penens, and Blue Point, SK green and white screwdrivers including a Wayne marked stubby, and lastly a 4" crescent from some name in Mass that I cannot remember.

After a long day on Friday. I could resist this auction. Wasn't advertised but the listing had a pic of a tool box that looked like an old Mac. I had to check it out. With 2-3 inches of wet slushy snow made everything a mudhole. Here is some of the run down.
Pic 1. Overview.
Pic 2. Partial Mac punch set $7.50. A almost complete Matco metric wrench set set $20. A partial Mac metric combo wrench set $12.50. a proto LA 1160 DBE $2.
Pic 3. Craftsman deepwell socket set and SK Wayne Large channel locks $15, Snap on bushing driver $10, 2 snappy ratchets 3/8" drive $25, Craftsman 3/8 RHFT $4, misc Snap On, Matco, Mac, and Proto Sockets $22.50.
Pic 4. Sockets continued. Sk ratchet $2.50, Proto Ratchet $7, NOS Sioux and Miller Falls Items $2.50.
Pic 5. Some more misc sockets and my favorite pic of the day. The proto case with the flying lady. I have never seen one of these cases before. It housed a transmission kit. I bought 1/4" torque wrench earlier since it was Proto LA and then realized it belonged in the kit. Spent $25 on the kit and $10 on the torque wrench.
Pic 6. The inside contents of the proto box.

Mrs No_Garage and I went to a nearby Townwide Garage Sale and I hit paydirt at the first stop.

There was a yellow wrench roll on the table with the top folded over so I couldn't see the manufacturer's name. I flipped it back to see S-K Tools. I asked how much and when I heard the number I grabbed it.

On the way home we saw a set of 4 vintage metal garden chairs at the curb for garbage. After a quick U-turn they "Jumped" into the van and here they sit awaiting some attention.

Cheers

Jim

I like all those old school metal chairs, brings back memories as we had them on the porch growing up. Common sight around the city.

Nice haul R, that Proto set looks neat. Hope to see some more of that.

Awesome finds guys. The sales are just getting started here. Tried to go to 2 of them today. The first one I was 1.5 hours early so I drove to the second only to find zero parking...it was packed! Oh well, I made some money doing computer jobs so not all was lost.

Went to an estate sale this morning that was on it's 2nd day, everything was 1/2 off. Paid $60 for the Reed 205 vise, $30 for the Craftsman bench mount drill press, $5 for the Carpenters vise, $2.50 for the 18" Ridgid pipe wrench, and all other hands tools were .50 cents each!

Went to the local scrap yard, as I needed some brass and steel, which they didn't have, but someone had scrapped a lot of old tools, and digging through I found these:

Milwaukee T&F ell handle, P&C extensions, Cornwell B t-bar. And a lot of hex drive stuff:

A Bog ratchet (with sockets wired to it) what looks like a standard Duro rachet from that period with the sockets and this unmarked set box:

A little more than I wanted to spend, but I couldn't pass it up.
Does anyone know of a generic hex drive thread to list these in? I am not sure of the set manufacturer.

Went to the flea market and found these in the 25 cents box. Files are all made in USA, I can only make out the Nicholson.

While Disston was known primarily for its ********** of handsaw manufacture, they also produced files, beginning in 1865, at some point hundreds of models of files.

Roy: What are the two side-by-side DOE wrenches with wavy shanks?
MSCO? Here are some pics. Sorry for the poor quality.

I will try and grab some better pics. Hoping to trade it off to proto collector in town that has a Blackhawk Nugget Speedball. If not I am sure someone here would enjoy in a trade.IMG_20190427_201113796.jpgIMG_20190427_201130122.jpgIMG_20190427_201135253.jpg
