Went to the local scrap yard, as I needed some brass and steel, which they didn't have, but someone had scrapped a lot of old tools, and digging through I found these:

Milwaukee T&F ell handle, P&C extensions, Cornwell B t-bar. And a lot of hex drive stuff:

A Bog ratchet (with sockets wired to it) what looks like a standard Duro rachet from that period with the sockets and this unmarked set box:

A little more than I wanted to spend, but I couldn't pass it up.
Does anyone know of a generic hex drive thread to list these in? I am not sure of the set manufacturer.
Nice finds. Thought the Ell was snappy until I read your post. It is strange people would throw them out.

The bog stuff is cool. Seen this at the swap but $250 was too rich for my blood. I snapped a picture to share and almost forgot about it.IMG_20190426_125107478.jpeg

Outlaw, that Lane chest you show in post #2584 was a promotional item. My family had a furniture store that sold Lane cedar chests, and we gave one of these to each female high school graduate!

Does it have any identification markings? Lane marked ours with the store name.

True. I live in VA and Lane was based in Alta Vista, VA. My mom graduated in 1936 and her Lane box is vaguely art deco, with round corners. I see these boxes all the time in antique stores for about $20.

It HAD them but apparently someone tried to remove it with a solvent. You can barely make out Lane, much less anything else. My other one has "Ray's Furniture, Newark CA, and this one faintly may have "Something Clearance Co, Kingston NY"

Jesus, you guys are pulling in the finds!
One day I will get to an American "estate sale" because we have nothing like that in the UK and they look like fun and full of potential! ...although will a Wilton or Parker Vice fit in airline hand luggage????......or can I claim a Craftsman top box AS my Hand luggage??? :bounce:

Anyway it's been raining since Tuesday so wasn't expecting much this morning however the skies cleared so headed out early.

DSC_1420.jpg

Decent number of sellers at the car boot but only came away with a handful of items.
>F-clamp - No Brand - £0.50p
>Wire Strippers - RS but USA made - £0.50p (nothing special but my preferred style of wire strippers)
>Cold Chisel - HAUPTNER - £0.50p (Shiny chisel is shiny)
>Articulated Tin Snips - "Ambely & sons" - £1 (markings are faint, never heard of the brand and spring missing, but straight clean jaws)

And three Earthen ware pots for use in the garden £3

Yesterday, on a routine mission to rendezvous at the Arcadian high council with our soon-to-graduate daughter and congratulate her winning the Alumni Choice Award for her senior thesis jewelry, I prevailed upon Mrs LS to spend a little time exploring the Quakertown Flea Market.
So Happy I Did, despite a near-fatal exposure to pollen blowing in from the mycelium network.
In the past I’ve been pretty loyal kling-on to Jake’s Flea Market in Barto, but lately, my peregrinations have taken me so close to the Q-continuum, with such pleasant results, I feel almost like a defector. (For those LA-LA-land enthusiasts, there are still Firesticks and other Plomb Empire exiles left behind from Lugz’s recent incursion into the neutral zone, as well as S-O, Indestro, etc - all ripe for the picking.)
Like the last time a rift opened up from the Bonneyverse, I had to be more selective than usual - typically, I’ve gone whole seasons without finding so much. First, I sorted through DOEs with little luck, there were Zenels I already have, not the four sizes I need. Then DBEs - Zenel, CV, Bonaloy - a little better luck there! And combos - I have most of those, hmm... Wait, what is this? A bin of dilithium-handled Bonney screwdrivers! I grabbed a big handful of those.
There were still more items I’d go toe-to-toe with a Gorn for, but I was feeling the effects of excessive pollen exposure, and out- of- cash!
Oh no, I’ll have to go back...boo hoo! ;)
After returning from that trek, we headed out for some shore leave at a friend’s birthday party (accidentally nearly crashing a Quinceañera at the wrong firehall). Lubricated with copious rations of Yuengling lager, we twisted the night away to the sounds of the Large Flower Heads covering ‘60s tunes at the Fearless Fire Company social hall.

A little more than I wanted to spend, but I couldn't pass it up.
Nice saves, Beemer. Unaiu has had periodic success at his local scrap yard. I used to stop, and still do every once in awhile, berating myself for wasting my time.

MSCO? Here are some pics.
Never heard of them. And I have never seen wrenches with that shape. Kind of cool. Anyone else?

Seen this at the swap but $250 was too rich for my blood.
Assuming you're talking about the Bog box, was it empty and they wanted that?!

Yes on the BOG box. It was empty and incomplete. It had a space on the other side for 2 drawers that would sit side by side.

I don't generally share all the broken and rusty things I find but I was happy to find this. Seen them before but the price is usually ridiculous high. If you wait long enough one will come along with the right price. Drove one hour each way in a snow storm, luckily I have an understanding girl friend.4173cbabcca22ce387c97c35cd53c410.jpg

I spent most of yesterday on a axle bearing change job on the project van.
Several setbacks, and having the wrong seals sent just made my day - NOT!. Plus trying to squeeze in my two trips for yardsales and some more work on the camping box I'm building sucked up more than the daylight hours...

While its early before I go get parts (I hope...) and finish the job and then spend some time with SWMBO for Bday stuff, I finally had a chance to really LOOK at some of the finds the past couple of days others have made. Some Big WOW's there.

WG, absolutely a big Usuck fir the free o=power hack saw!

RT, the Clamp on Vise is an interesting variant! how tight is the ball swivel and can it be locked down?

Lugz, the T wrenches do seem to be shop mods and I'm thinking off of distributor wrenches?

Tx, maybe the rod holder is for transport on a boat? :dunno:

BB I want to find a Long C grinder/motor, but that pedistal is cool!

D42, you are always finding cool stuff! -Show some "guts" pics when you open the torque wrench!

RO, Wow that's a ton O'stuff!

Bob, I have and old explosives box, for something 1-1/4 X 8 from Trojan? :see:  :pimpflash Seriously, its a pretty nice box also finger jointed

BJ that Bench Chest is awesome! would be a great stand for a bench top DP!

Did you go get the cat or the cabinet?

Either way it's a good pick. Any makers information on the cabinet?

Cheers

I believe this was made by Lyon Industrial out of Aurora IL. They made and still make metal cabinets, lockers, etc. A common thing you will find is those small three drawer parts organizers in the same color. It is very heavy. The cat lives in the garage or barn and seems to enjoy all the tools.

Found a pair of nice chainsaws for $250. The Husky 346XP is regarded as about the best 50cc class saw ever made and this one's a "cream puff". The drill was $1 and the grinder was $10.

At another sale I couldn't resist picking up this toy steam engine for $5. I filled it with water plugged it in and it came to life.

I grabbed a handful of things from the flea yesterday. Most of this stuff came out of the small green carry box, which was stuffed full. For $8, I couldn't say no. Needed some wheel chocks and these seem well built. The American Forge box has deep metric sockets in there.

bjt I don't know who made that cabinet but I love the hell out of it! Never seen one. Great find!!!

Last week end I went to a city wide yard sale, that was about 45 min. south of where I live. I spent a lot of time driving from sale to sale. I stopped at one and it had a card table with a sign that read, "M.R.E's 1$ each, but it was empty, I told the guy that was always my luck, He then told me he still had a 5 gallon bucket with some M.R.E's in it that he would sell me for 5.00, So he went into the garage and came out with a 5 gal. bucket full of MRE's, So I paid and left, I got almost 4 blocks down the road and thought to my self that if this estate sale had M.R.E's maybe they might have some other stuff still in the garage, so I turned around and went back and asked if he had any other military stuff still in the garage? He told me not really, that his father inlaw used to be one of those "preppers". So I asked if I could go into the garage with him and look, He allowed me to go in and look with him. There must of be many thousands of boxes of ammo. I not having many firearms I asked about 22 shells and he was way high on them. He then pointed out a large stack of large cans of freeze dried foods that was in a corner, He told me that he had read on line that they were suppose to last up to 30yrs, I looked on several of the cans and they were packed in 2015, so I asked how much. So I got 43 cans of freeze dried stuff and 7 M.R.E's (in the bucket) for $165.00, I guess it would be like 1/2 year supply of food for the wife and I. Now if the power goes out in the winter we will still have food. Rich

You ****! On all points. Was that grinder repainted, that the HP and such doesn’t show? Or was the label just peeled off? Looks like early 1970s?

yesterday was so crazy I forgot these two folding chairs I picked up:

This one will "rock" a bit or maybe its just to easily push back for a more reclined position?:

attachment.php

This next one has the foot rest but I need to find a way to lock it in position as if you just rest across it it falls over. Also has some reclining positions, but those lock.

attachment.php

I didn't realize when I got it that it has a "day pack" bag on the back. Flap folded back so its visible:

attachment.php

I was like :headscrat At first before a Realized it also had shoulder straps!

attachment.php

NOW it makes more sense, bu I'd definitely put something to pad those bars! maybe a folding mat to also provide more insulation for use in cold weather and just a shade more "cush" in the seat

Both are destined for camping.

Thanks. The grinder's finish is all original but the lettering on the label is pretty faded. I've seen that before on some block grinders. Some of the ink they used on the labels wasn't too colorfast.

bjt0055: Congrats on your CABINET, TOOLS, AND SMALL PARTS. It is from WWII, FSN 41-C-15. There was one reported here in this thread last year, too, so we're on a hot streak. :) Yours is in terrific shape. It's missing the security bar - a long piece of flat bar stock steel that slipped into that holder in the bottom and through a slot over that clasp at the top for a padlock. Also kept the drawers from opening in transit (these were bolted to the beds of 2.5 ton trucks). If you're interested in making one (very simple), I will post the specs. A 6-inch manual grinder and a vise would be clamped to the overhang. I will also post some links to other threads with other chests.

EDIT:

Here is a link to the one Mr_P found last April in the 2018 GS thread.

Here is a link to a photo of the security bar and diagram for fabrication.

And below is mine in place down in the Lugzsonian with a machinists chest, grinder and vise mounted on top.

Well that is very interesting and thanks for the information. I wasn't sure if it was military. I see where it would have been bolted down and was going to put swivel casters in the same holes. I almost passed on trying to get this. It's a very heavy and solid cabinet, I look forward to using it. I had no idea of it's history... thanks again for the info

Yes the kitty always has to investigate the new stuff. He is meant to be in a barn for pest control but seems to prefer the action in the garage. He actually keeps me company too!

I hadn`t planned on attending any sales today, but work went unexpectedly quickly, so off I went. The first stop didn`t have much in its ad, but a vise looked interesting. It turned out to be a garden variety exposed screw 4" lightweight, and with the swivel bse welded in place. So as not to have a wasted trip, I made a ridiculous offer. To my surprise, he accepted my $5 for both vises. Not sure whether the little one is a VacuVise or a knockoff, (*It's real. Price tag covered the logo*) but it works. Getting them home I discovered the reason for the welded base: the base is cracked clear through on one side. So much for grinding the welds off and restoring the swivel action.
On to the next sale where I found the soooo common gray Crafty box. But, I have a use for it,it contained a few good tools, and the sale guy let me toss in a handful of Crafties I found scattered in the tabletops full of Taiwan stuff. Made it worth the Half Price Day price. That was it for the garage, so I proceeded to the house where I found the Rally Box half hidden under a workbench in the basement. It felt pretty heavy, but opening the lid revealed little of interest. The drawers were another story: 110 sockets in shallow, deep, metric, inch, six point, 12 point and all three drive sizes. A scattering of combos, including one Long C, adaptors, extensions and a pouch of Allen wrenches , and a couple of nut drivers, all Craftsman. All this for the princely sum of $48 ....oops, I mean $24 -- Half Price Sunday.
And then I went home and fixed both the garden tractors, so I`m a hero to SWMBO!

We revisited a sale I found on Easter to see if I had missed anything. Surprisingly, I had missed a Plomb spinner along with these other tools. The short Plomb looking wrench is a true “combination” wrench. I like these old Mayhew punches

The Plomb "combination" wrench reminds me of the Atlas tool for lathes, except the Atlas tool had a 3/8" square box opening for the tool post, compound rest and carriage stop set screws. The Atlas had an 11/16" open end for the tailstock clamp nut.

So I went to a local car show yesterday, picking up the following:

Snap-on and Proto LA ratcheting adaptors, Plomb carbon scraper and valve adjuster, Plomb sockets (11/16 and 1-1/4) and flex, International truck tape measure, Zippo, wood punch holder, and a Snap-on 9/32 socket set.

Either someone did a real good job with the gold paint, or its factory. Also found this:

A Simpson 269 ultra sensitive meter. Needs new batteries (of course) and one is very wierd, a 22.5 volt. No space for multiple batteries in it either. So we shall see.

Went to one sale on Friday, got there and was told about the guy that used to live there. He was a Vietnam veteran, passed away earlier this year. He was big into civil war reenactment and had the full union uniform. I was looking through his collection and found this unopened bottle of wild turkey, it has a bottled for export from USA. I later dated it to 1965 and it got me to thinking that the guy must of bought it during his service, brought it home and never drank it. It made me think about life and how I should just enjoy things instead of putting it off.

Checked CL before going to bed last night and spotted a "tool assortment must buy all" deal. I texted this morning and then headed over to have a look. There were 2 draw knives, didn't even know there was any vises in the deal but there are 2 of those, 2 crappy tack hammers, 2 rusted leather punches (one is P Lowentraut, Newark NJ), 2 braces, a pair of ice tongs, lead plumb bob and a few other "things". I paid his $20 asking price.

The back story is that I've been looking to buy a good old drawknife for a few months. I've come close to pulling the trigger for some on ebay even one here on GJ. The way things were looking it was going to end up costing me $40 or more to get a decent one. Now, I've got two and for only $20. Need a bit of cleaning up and should work great. The 10" drawknife is a Fulton. The 8" drawknife was made by Ohio Tool Co. The lower brace in the pic is a Victor No 966 8". Didn't have a brace but now I do. Just gravy for me. I'm glad I was patient on buying a drawknife. Happy camper here.

Anyone recognize that little vise? How about the Kristee tool? I'd bet someone here has one of these stashed away. ??
