After studying builds on here for years I can finally start my own build thread. Starting on a 30x56x12 metal building in Central Ky. Weather has not been cooperating so the builder has one day in so far. Weather is looking better this week and the building materials should be here on Tuesday.

Weather is looking good the rest of the week. Should have concrete in a day or two.

The building materials arrived today. The truck driver was a real piece of work. Destroyed my yard and seemed like he didn’t know what he was doing. Had to be pulled out a few times.

Footer was poured on Wednesday with the studs for the building. I will get some pictures as soon as the weather clears back up. Was hoping t have concrete finished this week but rain came back sooner than expected.

Pricing garage doors yesterday, I was originally planning on going with a insulated roll up door. Now I am looking at a panel door that follows the roof pitch. Any recommendations for garage doors? It seems like the insulated panel doors are quite a bit more than the roll up doors.

When you are pricing doors be sure to tell them it is for a metal building. It makes a difference. Don't forget backing for the spring mount over the center of the doors.

Got another break in the weather. The builder dug out the topsoil inside the footer, filled with gravel and laid down the plastic and the wire mesh. It’s looking like we are going to have nice weather early next week so hopefully we can get the floor poured.

Spoke with the builder today. They are going to start putting the building this week after the concrete cures. I’m about to start ordering tools once the building is up. Still need to get doors, so far everybody I have spoke with about doors say they need to come out and look at the building to get a quote.

Making some progress. Building is up, waiting on doors. We ran the waterline yesterday and had the meter installed today. When we purchased the property there was a trailer sitting where I am building the shop. There were a couple other trailers up closer to the road and another water meter in front of one of the trailers. We went to turn the water on to check for leaks at all of my connections in front of the shop. All of the connections looked good but the meter was rolling over like we had a leak. My wife started saying there was water in the yard. So I am looking for a leak where I know the water line goes through the yard. Then I see it, a stream of water shooting 3’ in the air, on the other side of the road... Apparently they had teed off of the water line supplying the trailer where my shop is and ran a line over to another trailer. Going to dig it up tomorrow and get it capped off.

Thanks, I’m pleased with the way the building turned out. The overhang is 4’. I really think it will help keep the weather off the front of the building and the doors. Also if I’m working in the shop and there is a light rain I can keep the doors open. If it feels decent outside I like to keep the doors open and not feel like I’m locked in a box. I used a local company that builds a lot of aviation hangers, not sure who he sources his buildings from to be honest.

As you can see there is an abundance of downspouts on the front of the building. I am wanting to run them under the driveway and into the field on the other side of the drive. Should I run 4 lines separate or run some type of manifold across the front of the building and then one pipe going under the road? I’m not sure how deep I would need to be under the drive coming into the building for when I concrete later on.

Thanks Ed! Having some rock brought in today to start bringing the drive up so it isn’t as steep getting into the building. I need to wash the floor so I can seal it. Been looking into the Ghostshield 4500 and 8510.

Garage doors were installed today. The guy ordered the wrong doors so I had to wait for the correct doors to come in. Well the wife was home eating lunch on the back porch when guy brought the new doors to install. I guess he didn’t realize the wife was there because he starting telling the guy helping him about how he ordered the right doors and I just didn’t like them when they came in and he should have told me to shove the doors up my ***. I spoke with him on the phone after hearing about this. I had sent him a message asking if that was him picking up the wrong doors before he had started talking about them. Again the wife was eating and sent a message asking if they were picking them up so I sent him an message asking him. Well when he called to tell me that it was him over there I told him that my wife had asked if that was him getting the doors and that she was in the porch. I may try to throw little pieces into the conversation when he comes for me to pay. Then let him know he may want to watch his volume when talking about customers while on the job site. Idk.

Haven’t gotten a lot done to the shop in the last couple of weeks. I take a trip to NC twice a year to ride supermoto with a group of friends from around the US so I was spending some time prepping for that and then was gone for about 5 days with that. I did spray the floor with Ghostshield 4500 last week and going to spray with GS 8505 on Sunday. I also ran my downspouts into pvc to get water away from the building.
