I was looking at the Blue-Point wrenches on Snap-on's website and underneath the Product Specifications tab, for the 12 piece metric set, the COO states China.

I'm going to assume these are not made in China but rather Taiwan and Snap-on only says China to appease the Chinese government for not booting them out of Chinese market (e.g. manufacturing, distribution). Or are these really made in China?

I picked up a couple of Blue-Point air impacts last week with some other tools that I bought, and they are both clearly marked "Made in China". These would have been bought sometime around 2014 to 2015. While I haven't used them, they are about the heaviest ones I have ever picked up (not in a good way, but in a horrible to actually use way).

ok, good to know. The reason why I asked was that last year, China was arm twisting mutlinational companies to not explicitly refer to Taiwan as a country. I thought maybe Snap-On had bowed to the Chinese on this.

If it says China, its made in China.

Even some snap-on tools are made in China, nothing unexpected.

Blue Point Wrench Set made in China for $250: "it's to be expected that SO will source some things from China"

Anyone else's China COO Wrench Set: "OMG those wrenches must be such junk, I bet they spread like butter!"

You can get the Taiwan-made Tekton wrench set for $47! The Blue Point set is 5x the price. Aside from the usual 'truck brand tax', is there anything outstanding about the Blue Point wrenches that makes them worth the extra money?

It is possible to get quality goods made in China. The problem is that the biggest advantage is price and that is where most companies are looking. Taiwan is more aware of the fact that they cannot compete with mainland China on price so they are careful of the only advantage they have-reputation. Spyderco makes some of their best knives in China. Still, I would not pay Snap-on price for "made in China"

I think of tool companies such as INFAR during these conversations.. INFAR is headquartered in Taiwan; but their largest factory, which employs 3/4 of their workers, is located in mainland China. Taiwan supposedly has a reputation for better quality control; but China can be highly competitive for quality and price.
Between the two; Taiwan would likely be the most favored location on a GJ Forum; but the combined name of "Chiwan" is a simple and accurate answer to many questions about coo.

What wrench set are you looking at? Most of the blue-points I have seen on the truck still say made in Taiwan. Guess they could have moved production to China and my driver has old stock.

I wonder if Williams' Taiwan line up which is mostly the same as Blue Point will become Williams, China... :headscrat

You're just stirring the pot.

For a while now it hasn't made much sense to buy pnumatic or electric tools on a truck. Not only are the alternatives cheaper, they are in many cases better.

You are on the right track. Culturally the Hans deal differently with their wayward provience brethren and their Canton Hong Kong cousins then they do with the white devil.

This is one reason why TTI, Infar and Foxconn can reliability produce quality goods in China. Of course being geographically closer also helps.
