Ive never been one to realize I need to take before and after photos, but here is my after photos of my 1980's torpedo heater. it is of Desa origin, and I had to buy a few replacement parts, rotor etc. I fired it up for the first time tonight, and Im glad my John deere Ag yellow flame job didnt go to waste, because it works! It hasnt ran since 1993, and still has the same Jet A fuel so far! but it is burning it! It was in storage at work for almost 20 years. and now has a new home. Now I can cancel my insulation plans for my Texas shop. I still have some sanding painting to do to the tank, but I can continue, now that it is operational... Dont worry, even though Im in Texas, I wont fly it into any IRS buildings...

Nice looking heater.
Not including the classy flame paint job. That heater looks just like my old on that I inhereited from my father. Mine is also in need of a good tune up, right now it's out of kerosene but it will only run with the top of the heater removed.
I just read an article online today that suggested this problem might be caused by a worn / bad nozzle.
Do you know the model and BTU output of yours and where were you able to find parts.
Mine is a Reddy Heater model M66D 63,000 BTU's, white in color.

I had that problem too. I hooked up a pressure gage to the air outlet..plenty of pressure. I would put the top on, and it would flame out. The nozzle seemed to put out a good pattern, so what I did was flatten out the blades on the big fan slightly. It seemed to me that the air was blowing out the flame, so with a little less forced air, now it doesnt blow out the flame, if you try this, dont bend them too much, it only took a little bit. I found my manual online by just doing a google search. here is the link to my manual.. Just about all of these are identical, just different brands and sizes..made by Desa.

How much do the flames increase the BTU output? Do you notice it?

LOL!

Makes me feel all WARM and fuzzy inside! Here are some more pictures, I cleaned up and painted the tank, and "chromed" the wheels with some krylon!
and of course the obliglitory Snap-on stickers....
