The garage gallery is 70% pole barn builds.

While neat, the majority of the population does not have the means to construct an entire building, or even the land. I think seperating them out would do huge wonders towards letting users find what they are looking for.

OK, I think that could be helpful. Less space, more packaging for limited room. The only time my 2-car will see an actual car (and then, only one car) is when south Florida is getting a direct hit from a hurricane.

The other side will be packed ***-to-elbows with tools.

Update:
Seeing how others have complained about 'another forum,' I can see the concern. What I intended, saying separation could be helpful, I really-intended that it should be a thread, and not an entire separate forum, with another address. In our case, a quarter-acre urban lot with a ranch-style home and a pool deck doesn't leave any room for a pole, much-less a pole-barn. A two-car attached garage is it. I did get a storage loft in half the garage, which helps. I always am interested to see how space is utilized when you don't have land to build a 2,000 sq. ft out-building (or bigger).

No. This forum has just about the right amount of subforums. Have you ever been on a forum that has a hundred subforms only differentiated by minutia of the subject. They don't work either.

It's not minutia. Most people who own a house own a garage, and want to figure out how to make it more useful.

That's totally different than the small percent of the population that has all the land and huge bank accounts to put up an entirely new building.

They are two different things.

I joined the GJ after searching the net for ideas on small space garage organization; quite a few links to this forum.

I agree. An attached garage and a detached structure are two VERY different things. Shouldn't be lumped together.

The minutia I refer to is the one who follows your path and decides that two car garages have to have their own sub forum and the 3&4 car garages belong somewhere else. Then along comes another that wants to have a forum for workshop garages, mancaves in the garage, and then those who have exercise rooms. It steamrolls into a bunch of subforums that are divided by minute details.

Another is if you have two guys that have 20'x20' garages, one attached and one detached, they belong in different forums?

As for me being the
"small percent of the population that has all the land and huge bank accounts to put up an entirely new building"
can you not look at my build and glean something that can be used in a smaller place? So many storage and bench ideas are not dependent on the building size. Details in the garage/shop are not dictated by the location or size of the building.

Nobody is asking for a TON of subforums.

But there is a difference between a POLE BUILDING and a garage.

I'm not saying that the "Garage" subforum should only be limited to 2 car garages. Some 'garages' are 4 or 6 car. I've seen some that were 8!

But again, this is a totally different thing than a gigantic pole building, built from scratch. Generally, the pole building garage posts are 90% just building the structure itself.

And generally, the HOUSE/GARAGE based posts are about organization and using small space effectively.

Two. Completely. Different. Things.

Honestly I don't one sub -forum that differentiates between house(attached) and detached/pole buildings would be bad. I know my house garage will never be used like I plan to use my shop, and there for it is setup differently.

Forums with a ton of subs also generally seem dead/unsuccessful...people only ever see one specific subset they check on, and simmer out or something. :dunno:

I guess that I will have to admit your entitled to your opinion. I tend to disagree with it.

It ruined Hobart forum. There was 3, it was good and simple. The day they changed to a dozen is the day it tanked.
They put tech and administrative right at the top. Never did fix it.

Why do you people keep bringing up forums that added too many subforums? I'm asking for TWO specific forums. Not 12. Not 15. Not 9. Not 5. TWO.

One for houses, which is applicable to most suburban/urban residents, where most of this country's population resides.

The other for pole buildings, which tends to be rural areas. Awesome to see how to build a pole barn.

Why different?

The pole barn builds are always building something from nothing, then decking it out, usually with tons of money and a huge budget.

The HOUSE based garages are totally different. Usually much lower budgets, and much LESS space, requiring more optimization and creative thinking to package everything.

You've been around this forum long enough to have seen requests for different subforums right along. Yes you only want two, but then the next swinging **** wants another, and the next guy, and then one wants one for girls only, and on and on. Soon we have so many that the forum dies because it becomes unusable....

That is why.

Larry, I guess I read Garage Journal differently than you because for me, it doesn't matter how many subforums there are.

I click on Quick Links > Today's Posts and then just browse the threads until I find something interesting. Very rarely do I actually go to a particular subforum

To each his own

No sir, I enter the forum and do exactly the same. I was thinking about this and my arguments are more to support Ryan and confirm to him he has it right, and there is no need to change.

I think it's a great idea.

While we are at it, we could add sub-forums for those with lifts, and those without. A separate section for garages that do just woodworking and those that wrench....though it might be an issue if you do both like I do.

Then we have those with epoxied floors and those without. It's an important issue.

Don't forget....PVC air or Iron or Copper.

Boy, we could really get this place organized.

I open garage journal and check user cp for subscribed threads and then just use the new posts thing at top after that.

I have gleaned garage info from a toilet paper commercial.
What aren't you learning when you see aspects of a big Garage?
I don't believe 0.001% are all 3/4" drive tools and kenworths.
EVERYTHING exptrapolates for those who allow it.
