I recently built an outdoor firepit out of concrete pavers. Now I'm at the point of adhering the firebrock to the pavers. The dude at menards said to use refractory cement. I mixed a small batch and put 5 firebricks in place as a test run. I stacked some bags of mulch up against them to hold them in place until the cement dries, but I have my doubts that this is going to stay. It just doesnt seem adhesive enough and is too gritty.

Is there a better option?

I had a retaining wall installed last fall and the contractor used this stuff, I can tell you from experience that after the pavers are glued on the block will break before the bond does. I have about a case left over if you want to try a tube send me your address.

Probably a dumb question but I was just wondering, is that adhesive used in place of cement? Been kicking around the idea of building a small fire pit in the backyard. Might be a good option for me.

As of today, the first round of firebrick appears well-adhered. I put another few bricks on tonight - so we'll see if they hold. I appreciate the offer but for now I might just be ok.

I'll update as this progresses.

John, The adhesive was used to glue the caps on top of a retaining wall that is made of Versa block. I have not tried it in a fire pit.
