OK, this does not show that tool being used but is "old-school" sawing. I have no idea why I watched this........well I did have my "after-dinner" beer in my hand.
I thought there would be more info online, but didn't look until today as I knew how it was used. The video doesn't help much.
So, I drew (?) a picture of how this one was used.
You drive the 2 points into the side of a tree you want to cut up. Let the square shank hang straight down. Position the roller so the back side of your saw will be supported up against the bottom of the tree. Start sawing, and reposition the roller as needed. This made it possible for one person to make the cut.
OK,... the sliding piece with the roller support looks to be oriented so that after driving the "points" in, as in your picture, the roller is turning parallel to your log not perpendicular as it would need to be. does that little cap come of the end so you can slide off the roller assembley and reposition it?
The square rod is smaller and round near the end which allows the piece with the roller to be turned either way - for right or left hand operation.
