It's been a slow year for me and here it is almost half over... the rest of the year doesn't look much better for tool shopping, but we are going to add a grandson and get lots of time with the other 4 grandkids.

Based on the quality of posts this year, you guys have been doing amazing. I am trying (with some success) to get an 11 year old into the game and he is beginning to add cool little antiques to the bookshelves in his room.

Duddly, Originally, I was going to miss Saturday fleas, due to my newly-minted adult daughter’s real estate snafus, but now a window has opened to drop in at Qtown. I might be done and gone by the time you arrive (or you might be at Jake’s), but I’ll keep an eye out for your Y’ANJ shirt.

This just in: my informants say there will be a new flea venue at the Allentown Fairgrounds on Sundays and Tuesdays, beginning June 2.

I'm headed over to Jake's Flea Market for Sunday morning. Going to set up a couple of small tables of tools and see how it goes!

Before 9am I had grabbed both of these.
Craftsman 6536 cantilever box circa 1976 in good shape.
JC Penney 1/3 hp cast iron bench grinder also good shape.

Finished up with one more stop. Old Cornwell 3/4 combo, Pexto tin Smith hammer, large brass hammer (name obliterated) and an odd roofing hatchet?

It's only marking is Germantown Master Leather. Edit: Lather. Lol. Hammer head has a waffled face. Looks like a lath hatchet.

Edit: looks like it was made by the Germantown Tool Works of Philadelphia, who became Griffith Tool Works in 1919. So this is over 100 years old. Looks extremely well made. Pics of an ad here:

5 planned stops, two TOO's, and only 2 "producers..."

So the best was the one I had to wait for an I actually side tracked to get there a bit early... It Paid off! I got both the items I was after and some other decent stuff! So it turned into the big win for the day! even better, I never saw a Pro all day!

I saw the cabinet I wanted in the drive, and then went into the garage to seek out the Wilton I'b seen in the shadowy CL pic! A 3" and still bolted to the bench! (I wish I had space for the bench! or at least the top!) I asked "how much for the vise?" and He said if I could get it off, $10! he said it was bolted and lag screwed, and it was! I said "Sold" and they said "Yay!"

The aluminum jaw caps appear to be stuck on with caulk?

Warranty Exp on the last day of 1959, so a 1954 vise!

And the 12 drawer parts cabinet - All the drawers are there, I had grabbed two to carry in (all full of "stuff" - I need to sort and toss a bunch I'm sure...)

And the odds and ends for an added $7!

A good pop riveter with both size
dies, 2 Cleco pliers, Millbar Wire twist pliers, (the twister is spring loaded! This is a GOOD pair!), extendable magnet stick, Mitutoyo vernier calipers, 2 Proto ignition wrenches, a Bosch & Lomb optical comparitor with 4 different comparitor glasses, and a hunk of steel that caught my fancy.

Not a bad stop for under $40!


The last decent stop was last on my list, and I picked up a small First aid kit box (still had a couple of packs of gauze) an Optumus (Radio Shack) mini amp (these are good to connect as a PC sound amp to decent speakers...) and a Monster speaker switch $5 all

Giller 1/4" drive kit with box, a 1940's? car polish kit that isn't politically correct.
A 2 inch and a 2 1/4 inch crows feet with no name just AN numbers.
Couple of Speed System wire strippers, and I too got a Malbar safety wire pliers.

Also at the first sale today, I spotted this air cleaner. Asked what it fit?
Dunno.
Bought it and did some investigating, fits 1967 Buick GS 400.

Nice vise score but dude....that cabinet is killer! You ****!! Lol I literally would just put a coat of clear on it and call it a day. You can't replicate that bad *** blue and rust patina!!!

Outlaw, that odd shaped hunk of metal in post #3062 is an aircraft rivet bucking bar. The cleco pliers should have been a tipoff!

Prov, That bucking bar is a new one on me; Not surprised however, as the guy was clearly an aircraft worker/engineer; at Ames research center (At least) I passed on a LOT of other cool stuff there including a small rack of Cleco's in really bad shape so I left them (I have a carry box full of the suckers...)

Thinking about going back to see if the bench top is still available...

And thanks Colt, The blue on the cabinet is a rattle can attempt to cover Olive drab. I can't find a single makers mark anywhere though

While taking a break from tearing out a patio deck that was rotting away ,I was able to meet up with a FB marketplace seller and picked up this 1943 Gerstner toolbox. It's missing the top rail of the door,and the finger pull. It's still in pretty good shape. I may just scrub it up with Murphy's and polish the hardware a bit before delving deeper.

Only able to stop at one yard sale after work today advertising lots of tools. There were only 6. But two of them were Craftsman vises that I bought for $50 for the pair.

The pile of small engine parts with about a dozen carburetors was an eBay buy that showed up today.

I did not bump into Duddly today, though I kept my eyes open. An unexpected opportunity to drop in at the Quakertown flea market opened up this morning, so I did. First pass, I spent a buck on a pair of Utica “custom built made to order” B353 sprung dikes. I had hoped they’d have “Bell System” on them, but they don’t. Along down the line, picked up three brass drawer pulls.
Stopped to toy with the little red Bonney box at Mick’s stand. Must be the fourth or fifth week I’ve considered buying it, but still hadn’t ID’d it. He had what looked to be a 5” Wilton bullet with no base. Priced fairly, but out of my league.
So back in the car and on to the daughter’s apartment. Afterward, stopped at a church flea market - nada of interest.
By this time, I had located the little red box, not in the 1957 or 1960 catalog where I had been looking for it, but the 1963 catalog. An MB34, to hold a T55B 3/8dr socket/ratchet set, about half of which I have! Screech! Back to Q-town.
After sitting there for weeks, I’d been gone about three hours, and guess what?
Cue up Hall&Oates’ “She’s Go-o-o-one”!
Oh, my...well, he did have a couple wrenches and hinge handles.
Then a stop at a yard sale along rt309 yielded an intriguing little tack hammer. I thought at first it had a manufacturer mark. What could it be? Daraike? Bridgeport? No...it’s a date...hmm...Another dollar, then.
Back home, punched out the brass pins, took off the wood scales, straightened the iron shank and buffed off the rust. “DEC10,1867” is Thomas A Conklin of New Britain Connecticut’s patent number 71986. Well, that’s a bit older than I thought. Probably should have been a little more conservative filing off the mushrooming. Still, a neat little find.
Last pic shows a Bonney socket I didn't buy. I’d never seen that ropey knurl on a Bonney socket, but now I know why - it was a Whitworth size. Ah-ha! Nice of Bonney to make a visual aid to keeping them distinguishable from SAE and Metrics.

Thanks, I'm stoked about the grinders! I believe they're Baldor rebrands. Everything else is awesome too! That brass hammer has to weigh 5+ lbs, I paid less than scrap price. I like Pexto, so the tinsmith's hammer is a great grab. And I do have a weakness for cantilever boxes

A blacksmith friend got the industrial auction find of a lifetime! He asked me yesterday to help with the second trailer load. There was an unfortunate incident when we were loading the big lathe and heavy duty furniture dolly we were using slid out partially and ran over my foot. Pretty painful yesterday but thankfully today it is just sore with a small bruise. 2 Wilton C1 vises, a welding table, workbench, 3 Baldor grinders, Delta metal cutting vertical bandsaw, even bigger Grizzly metal bandsaw, 4 palletJack's, 3 Stephen Bader belt grinders, a bunch of hand tool and machinist tools and more I am probably forgetting.

Man you guys are killing it -- I went from rain outs to "3 day weekend slowdown..."

So being slow I went back to the estate sale to see if the maple top bench was still there - Yep! only sans the maple top...

Turns out her daughter claimed the top for a furniture project... (I was goibg t see if they would sell me just the top...)

So I went digging for whatever I missed earlier.

Two HUGE Jorgensen Wood screws (18"), and a handful of other things, including 2 bottle of REAL Mapp gas, (one full, the other nearly so), An odd bottle, with a pour spout, A scrib marker, (possibly home brew....) Another big steel block, all the Steel scales are Starrett except the one inder the bottle - thats a general depth scale, and the protractor is also Starrett, a deburring tool a small Proto EZ out, and a set of blue coveralls my size.

fifteen bucks all.

Thank you for the manual. I have one in the corner of my garage I paid $34 for about 7 years ago. I have never gotten around to cleaning it up. Those eBay prices...

Why do they weigh 90 pounds? Are they filled with cement like old safes?

I'm out of town for the weekend but I'll take pictures when I get back.
