Has anyone here surface mounted 2x4 troffers in their shop? I found a good deal on 4 bulb t-8 troffers. Will surfacemounting the work? My ceiling height is 15'. How do I figure out the light spread?

Thanks

I am in the same situation. I found some 4x2 T8 4 bulb troffers on CL. the guy wants $15 each for them with bulbs and has a bunch so I think I am going to try to get some this weekend. I tried loading the Lithonia lighting program from their website but I can't get it to work. I have about 900 sq feet in my garage and I am thinking about 8 fixtures would be plenty but I am just guessing. My ceiling is 9.5' and white.

What sort of problem did you have loading the program? We might be able to help with that :bounce:

The download seemed to go fine but maybe I missed a step. When I try to open the program I get this error "m_Main.programinitialize line 270 error 75 path/file access error". then I close that window and get this one "m_main.activation line 580 Error 91 Object variable or with block variable not set"

The ones I found are Metalux GR8 series, new in the box with lights for $40 each. Not as good a deal as I had hoped. They also say they are "UNV=Universal Voltage 120-277" so I'm not positive they will work for me? Will these work on standard 120 electric at my house?

I went to the cooperlighting website and found the light I was looking at and clicked on the Calculate link, and it open up a cool little program to calculate how many lighs I would need.

They will work for 120-277V, just connect the supply voltage & they will work.
At $40 bucks each I would look elsewhere.

I just talked them down to $35 each, that includes the bulbs. Lowes has the same light for $47 without bulbs + tax. It's getting better, but they only have 20, I think I will need more than that for my shop.

I paid $10 each for mine, but no bulbs. I have the parabolic fixtures. They will work good in your shop. My brother has those same ones in his garage.
$35 each sounds a little steep, but if you don't have to replace the ballasts or bulbs it doesnt sound too bad.

Dipper, did you or your brother buy them used? Are your brother's surface mounted or recessed in the ceiling? The ones I am looking at are new in the box, with lights.

Thanks

Mine i bought for a discount homecenter that i work part time at, so i got a little bit of a deal, but anybody that walked in that day could have gotten the same deal. I replaced all the ballasts (got a deal on those too) and put new bulbs in. Mine are dropped right in the suspended ceiling i installed.

My brother's came from his work that they were gonna toss out. He mounted them right to the studs in his unfinished garage, about 6 of them in a 24x24 garage. They are very bright.
