Yes sir, no wrench with these guys as far I can tell.

I believe its missing the wrench retainer cap that was pressed on the roll pin showing. It was tall enough to allow the wrench slide up to the c-clip and re position to tighten or loosen. I got a loose cap around here somewhere.
'
Look at that advertising RBarnes posted, u can see the "retainer cap" as i call it.

The bash bros. Interesting that the Prentiss (on the left) looks smaller but outweighs the Parker by 25lbs (322lbs vs 297lbs). Think most of it comes from the much beefier slide on the Prentiss.b85d011536dde7395aa4265f993749c3.jpg64209e326583cb6918d88cb40d79186d.jpg

Any master machinist care to help me out with swivel base for it?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know one fellow that could, and has turned some Stanley clamp-ons into the prettiest little swivel based units you've ever seen.---So it can be done, but I'll just leave it at that.---He's a busy fellow.

Talking about Dr. Scott?

Svt Ivan, I assume you know that Athol is a quick adjust.

VA, The plate and wing nut that you mentioned earlier for the 289 1/2. The mounting on mine was broken so I adapted a 976 swivel base to it.

Svt: That's a cool little piece. Great pick up!

Jeff: That pic is incredible. Very clean examples of those very rare vises. Beautiful!

Get, how much adapting did you have to do on the 289 1/2.---The base looks like it was made for it or at least interchangeable with it.---I've got a Morgan 289 1/2 that is almost identical to the C.P. in appearance except for the screw retainer and the unique machine shaped jaw inserts.---The Morgan has T shaped.---And the fact that the old C.P.s were a through the bench type, and Morgans have a swivel base.---You have modernized yours for sure.---Now you have a unicorn.

That's not my blue Morgan by the way.---I borrowed the pic from Google.

Here's the two side by side.

Guys, you would not believe how many times a week I am asked to build custom stuff. I can't, just to busy. I get 4 hours a week to work on my vises. So sorry can't help on the baby swivel base. I could supply a design that could be scaled down to fit if you find a machinist that will work for hardly anything that could make your base. Shop rate for Machinist's are $75/hr I wish I made that much. Absolutely no respect for Machinist's any more. OH, at least 8 hours of labor in making a swivel base for a tiny vise like yours once the geometry is figured out.

While I am at it, guys, don't buy Parkers without jaws and the same for the Columbain's with Tee style jaws.

It’s really not a problem. I know you have the capabilities, but I also know you’re a busy man. Hence, the reason I didn’t reach out or contact you directly. I simply asked to see if there was any machinist willing to take on a project like this. With that being said, I did have someone reach out to me on IG and we’ll see what we can come up with. Thanks.

I think the shoulder bolt threads and what was left of the broken piece on the bottom were different. I used a fix a thred spring insert. The pins on the brake shoes had to be ground shorter and the holes reamed out for it to rotate without binding. Overall it was and easy fit.

The little Stanley Jersey no. 752 came in today. I don’t see this model very often with the stationary base.

Smitty, the retaining clips are missing on the Stanley's a lot.---KMS showed me that, and how to fashion your own if they are missing.---I think POs knocked out the pin to clean or grease and forgot to put the clips back or lost them in the shuffle.---They're easy to loose, believe me.---If you drop one and it hits the floor, it disappears.---Yours has them I see.---Very nice string of clamp-ons there.

Thanks VA. I just checked the other Stanley’s and sure enough one has the clips missing. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for it in the future.

Kevin, please send me the design for the swivel base. I will want to build one of these for myself at some point. Thanks!

There has been a couple of double exposers on this thread but none quite as bold and complete as your Wilton.---Most anomalies come in the form of misspelled words or missing letters or numbers.---Just makes them more valuable and desirable IMO.

I have a Victor Stanley 776 that had the retaining pin missing. I used a nail to replace it, but I would love to know a better fix.

followed up a listing on CL for wrenches and saws and found this old workhorse in the gentleman's basemen. It's a Yost 104 that needs a little cleanup but looks to be in very good shape.

Here's my old Reed. It was in the Printing shop my dad worked at for 40+ years. Shop closed and he was caretaker of the grounds for several years until it sold. He cleaned out what he wanted and took a few of these vises. I've had this one close to 20 years myself as I've moved around. It's heavy enough that I rarely need to bolt it down.

Some of my best finds have come by simply asking “what else do you have for sale?”
Nice find

Our house suffered minor damage from the tornado that went through Lawrence and Linwood KS before hitting Bonner Springs, KS. We were fortunate in that our damage was so slight compared to those that lost entire homes. Electric Company -WESTAR was out restoring power. Nice guys. Glad to see some younger folk on the payroll. Outstanding job as always!

These were the vises on the two huge trucks in our driveway -

The other day I posted a pic of the Wilton No 3 I had just picked up. I’ve spent a little time on it over the last few evenings and got it back together. I didn’t want this to be a full on restoration or ‘better than the factory made it’ kind of deal. There were a few areas that still had the original paint and I left them intact instead of wire wheeling them off. If I find a ‘new’ vise from the 60’s or newer, i’ll Probably smooth it out and paint it nonfactory colors. Maybe throw some pinstripes on it. But this vise was from Wilton’s early days and I really just wanted to clean and freshen it it up.

If the nail is working as a pin and is kind of snug, then I say just leave it.---The pins in mine look like what a small nail with the head cut off would look like.---The main thing is the clip retainers.---If they are there then you really don't have a problem.---But if you are determined to change it, you might try a roll pin, if they make them that small.:dunno:

It's not every day you find a first/second year production Wilton No. 4 with the factory paint and most of the factory sticker left!

The Pat Pending version with the oval shaped dynamic is probably my favorite look even if they're not as strong as the later versions. This will make some collector very happy!

just wanted to alert forum members that there is a Roughneck rotating vise on our local CL. Only $300, for some reason it hasn't been snapped up the previous three times it's been advertised. Try not to kill each other fighting over this gem.
