Only able to stop at one yard sale after work today advertising lots of tools. There were only 6. But two of them were Craftsman vises that I bought for $50 for the pair.

The pile of small engine parts with about a dozen carburetors was an eBay buy that showed up today.d1c1dc15b6080dc464c705be6b1d6981.jpga2b05ab26a45fa12d93b5a99ee76f4d7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-

What are the odds that I would pick up almost the same two vises in the same weekend on the other end of the state???:lol_hitti

I finally finished sorting through the free tool haul that filled the entire trunk of my car, plus a couple boxes in the rear seat. I had to throw a ton of it away since it was junk and then I filled a cheap little toolbox with the no name tools. I'll probably throw that on Craigslist for $10 and kick it out the door. Here's the gold that I sifted out that's worthy of keeping/selling.

Overview:

47954252166_edfbeece2d_c.jpg

Craftsman 1HP belt sander
Skil belt sander
two saw blades
Two Ryobi battery chargers plus third little charger that rests on top of the battery
3 Ryobi 18v batteries
1 Great Neck 18v battery
4 Ryobi Lithium+ 18v batteries
2 Actron dwell/tachometers

47954229588_7dbc3d0846_c.jpg

Dewalt reciprocating saw
Craftsman/Sears timing light
2 Ryobi 18v drills
Ironman C clamp
4" C clamp
Jacobsen clamp
Kent Moore specialty tool for leafsprings (maybe? I'm not completely sure)
Three sets of Vice Grips
Vice Grip clamp

47954229568_15a6e4072b_c.jpg

8 cans of various camp stove fuel plus a burner (free if you're in the SLC area and you want these!)
Unused tube of grease
Bearing for a 3/4" shaft
Wire loom holder
KD micrometer(?)
Two large MAC tools (oil filter wrenches? Maybe for a diesel?)
Two smaller oil filter wrenches (made in USA but unbranded)
Two Bosch drill bits

47954212412_cb77995c4c_c.jpg

Unbranded brake pliers
OEM Tools Body anvil
Oil filter cap wrench
tiny unbranded 1/4" breaker bar
Matco BP150 bearing puller
Unbranded seal puller (made in USA)
Unbranded flare nut wrench
Unbranded threaded handle (maybe for a bushing driver?)
Blue Point YA-990-2 Oil filter cap wrench
Snap-on A200 pickle fork
Matco brake wrench
Snap-on 10mm insulated nut driver
MAC S171 9/16" distributor wrench
Snap-on 3/8" drive 13mm impact socket
Snap-on 3/8" drive 12mm socket (cracked)
Snap-on 3/8" drive 1/4" deep socket
about a quarter of a Blue Point wrench

47954212442_3fa54553c8_c.jpg

Three saws

47954212422_3572732d2b_c.jpg

Duralast SAE socket sets in shallow and deep
a bag full of about 20lbs of miscellaneous sockets

47954212447_68dc550f63_c.jpg

I was curious about this little bag. After some googling, I found out that this is a water filter. It's made in Switzerland and very nice quality. I should be able to get about $75 for it on Ebay.

Not pictured individually, but the two large cases near the bottom of the first photo are a Hoppy headlight aiming kit and a window tint tester.

and one last thing...

Inside the case marked "for the busy male executive"...

:shocking::shocking::shocking: I'm glad I was wearing gloves while sorting through all this.:shocking::shocking::shocking:

Check the vise thread - these things tend to run in threes.

Picked up this Black And Decker Wildcat grinder from a coworker for $50. Looks like it was only used once. These beasts are rated at 15 Amps and are known as widow makers:shocking:

I picked up Craftsman radial arm saw #10 for $40. I'm up to a thousand dollars in Emerson recall money for an output of around half that plus gas money. Plus, I have filled my parts rack with nuts, bolts and washers from disassembling the stands and arms and I have a pile of steel to repurpose for other projects.f800ba46bc14275b329c5c2096713aec.jpg

Couple weeks ago at a sale a guy i know bought 1 stand and all for $1. We go taking turns on bidding on them. His turn ended up being a new low record for us.

Sometimes I feel a little guilty about buying them from folks who just don't know about the recall. But I rationalize that anyone pricing an RAS at less than half the going market rate just want the big heavy, largely unused tool out of the way. I'm happy to oblige.

Found on marketplace so not a true garage sale but had to post. He sold the Metric set before I got there but dug out the SAE a day later as a consolation prize. Brand brand new never touched before me let alone used 2018 date code J54126XL. He was originally asking $70 but let me have for $50 since it wasn't the metric I wanted originally. Pretty sure they came from a military contractor thing but I'm not asking any questions. Living near 3 military bases Proto/Armstrong stuff does pop up cheap from time to time, but never brand new complete sets for 70%+/- off.

Coming from USA Craftsman, these are my first real professional tools. To say they are nice is an huge understatement. Probably too nice to use. But with four 70s cars I can definitely put them to use.

Nice buy! By the way, technology has greatly expanded what constitutes a garage sale. To repeat the guidance in post #1 on this thread, we cast a wide net for sources of aftermarket finds, so pretty much any second-hand venue is welcome. The radial arm saw from my last post was found on FB Marketplace.

I almost gambled on a RAS for the buy back option, but I wasn't 100% sure which model would fall under the buyback program. This one also had a guard option so I figured it must of been too new and wasn't part of the buyback since it had a guard.

I don't feel right looking up a website and see if it's part of the buyback program while stand next to the owner. So how do you determine if it's part of the buyback?

...we cast a wide net...
Indeed. Today I found something interesting on the side of the road. More accurately, in a spillway, where an actual net could've been handy. Not a box type, it was hardened, and had a glossy OD green finish, but not painted. One opening, good bite. No branding. Looks rather Snappy, though. (More on that later... Let's see who can solve that riddle.)

As for the flea market, I picked up a vintage Snappy stool type creeper/tool caddie. On the caddie are No. 04 & 12 leather punches, a grenade pin (not really, but I don't know what it is), a 'FORD BRAKES' DBE wrench (7/16 x 1/2 8-point openings), and a mystery tool (guessing some kind of upholstery fastener). In front of that is a Union Hardware hack saw frame (highly desirable WWII GMTK item), a pre/early war (Chrome Alloy) Williams 6" Superjustable, and a WWII Williams deep socket, ST-1216 (1/2"). The battery pliers are No. 307 Champion DeArment.

Also picked up a nifty little folding table with a canvas strap handle. Three card monte anyone?

HAHA! Not too shabby, Billiam. You clocked in at 31 minutes!

Technically, this was a rescue operation not a soup-stock hunting adventure, so the turtle - a nice specimen of Chelydra serpentina (American snapping turtle) - still IS about 10-12 inches in diameter. I pulled one out of the same pond about ten years ago that was as big as a garbage can lid.

Four fine young sirs who happened to be fishing during the event dropped their poles and came running over curiously with their phones to take pictures (of course!) of the crazy old man climbing down into the spillway. One of them sent me the pics. (I am probably the subject of numerous Instagram jokes!) I will post some later.

I reckon the snapper must have gotten swept over in the torrential rains we just had, accompanied by a flood, tornado, and ping-pong ball sized hail warnings. There is an iron grate on a tunnel under the road where the pond spills into a creek leading to the Navesink river, which is a brackish tidal estuary. The snapper was trapped in an area between the concrete and iron walls of the spillway (about 8 feet high) and the iron grate. It would've eventually died of starvation down there.

Now it's free to torment young sirs and drown young goslings.

Found another gem today for $40. Minor scrapes on the frame. Since I have the sandpaper and paint I’m going to respray it. Casters are perfect.

Helping my neighbor today price some of her late husband's things for Craigslist and such I asked her what she wanted to sell some clamps she had. She said they were junk and was going to throw them out. I told her she could sell them for some $. She didn't want to. So I offered to take them off her hands.

a grenade pin (not really, but I don't know what it is)

Does it have a ball-bearing catch? Not sure because of the resolution, but those types of pins can be used for telescoping steel tubes, cross-drilled with appropriate-size holes. I bought some exercise equipment for $1 at a yard sale a couple years ago just because it had several of those, to use in fabricating a packable deer cart.

Would you mind telling me the sizes of the six (6) wrenches? Are they 723, 725 (or 25), 727-C (or 27-C), 728-S (or 28-S), 731-A, and 733-C (or 33-C)? If so, they are very likely a GMTK set, I used to have a set just like it, and I may be interested in them if they're not keepers.

No. The ring is mounted asymmetrically. And, it has tension on it, and snaps closed when it reaches a certain point (see Pic 5). Ask me how I know? :)

Here are some pics of the Snap-on Turtle Rescue... It ain't the Great BlueBomber Coke Machine Excavation, and it really doesn't belong here, but I am pulling my Hostus Emeritus card... :)

Pic 1 is the spillway. Pond to the left. Pic 2 is looking down in the spillway. The snapper is just under the arch in this shot. The grate is about 6 feet in (not in the picture). Pic 3 grainy zoom. Pic 4 through 7 self-explanatory!

Lugz, I've used them on projects and even race car hood pins for quick easy release. Readily available are most ant decent hardware store.

Kudos on the turtle save!

Hunh. Not what it is, but the asymmetric terminals of the ring function the same way as the bail of a spinning reel.
Which reminds me - I was thinking of the “claw” forge mark on the mystery pointy pliers you posted a bit back. Are they stainless? Could they be fishing pliers?
But this pin...I feel like I’ve seen this. A retaining pin, the ring snaps over a U-shaped recess in the cast housing, so the pin doesn’t work itself out...Where, where?

Took off this afternoon in the crazy heat to see "Best of Enemies" at the (two) dollar movie...movie, popcorn and coke for > $10, gotta be happy about that.

Stopped at the Re-Store a block from the theater, and scored this no-name 3/8" drive GI torque wrench (NSN 5120-00-853-4538 and dated 4-78) and 2 pairs of casters.

Movie was excellent, and well worth the time invested.

On the way home, stopped at a pawn shop I had to pass en route to the theater, except this time it was on the easy access side of the street. Spent an hour or so digging through bins of tools, which were already somewhat sorted by truck brands, Craftsman, and everything else (the last was segregated into 4' x 4' x 6" containers of sockets and wrenches). I'm thinking I need to put this place on my weekly rounds, as I score every time I go in there!

Vintage wrenches:
Vlchek UNK
Williams 25, which is a WW2 vehicle-correct
Vlchek W1820, 9/16 x 5/8
Hazet 350, 12mm x 13mm
Plvmb 1226, Made 13/16"

Sockets:
Craftsman C-21 21/32", 1/2 dr. 12pt Not sure what era this one is, with the interesting cross-hatching
Craftsman 1", 1/2 dr. 12 pt -V-

Modern wrenches:
Craftsman 7mm VA
Craftsman 11/32" VA
BluePoint 6mm, BOERM 6, 2011 date code
BluePoint 7mm, BOERM 7, 2013 date code
SK 11mm x 13mm DOE, 86511
Craftsman 17mm x 19mm DOE, -VV-
SnapOn 9/16, OEX18B, 1998 date code

Here are some pics of the Snap-on Turtle Rescue... It ain't the Great BlueBomber Coke Machine Excavation, and it really doesn't belong here, but I am pulling my Hostus Emeritus card... :)

Pic 1 is the spillway. Pond to the left. Pic 2 is looking down in the spillway. The snapper is just under the arch in this shot. The grate is about 6 feet in (not in the picture). Pic 3 grainy zoom. Pic 4 through 7 self-explanatory!

Nice pictures. That thing looks pretty big.I used to fish and play in a spillway like that when I was a kid. It flowed under the road, from the pond into the swamp. The snapping turtles were in the swamp. No grate from what I remember.

Lugz, is the Turtle Man your alter ego? :bounce:

Seriously, nice job in doing that particular good turn. While I'm sure that Snappy didn't enjoy being handled, the opportunity to hunt goslings will make it happy. And starving would be a miserable way to go...Any idea who put the 108 on its shell?

"The ring is mounted asymmetrically. And, it has tension on it, and snaps closed when it reaches a certain point see Pic 5). Ask me how I know? :)"

I have used these anywhere with a hasp that a padlock can go on. But that you don't need to lock and you don't want the "pin" to randomly fall out (like that stick in the garden shed door hasp...)

In a previous life (thank god the ex-wife kept her vermin horses), we used those on the handle keepers of the horse trailer ramps/loading doors. Wouldn't fall out during travel and could be removed easily when opening the ramps/doors.

Been too busy to post much lately, but I read this thread everyday and y'all have had some serious scores! I've managed to pick up a few things here and there.

Estate sale about a month ago, half off day. Regulator/oiler, Almost new Jet cut off, old Blackhawk ratchet, battery minder, brass punches and a Wizard 1/2" speeder. $12.

CL ad: Various sets of CM wrenches, pry bar set, CM metric ratcheters, CM drivers, an SK 45174 3/8 stubby ratchet, ChannelLock adjustable socket, etc. $50

ReStore last week: complete CM 1/4"-3/8" set, shop made seal driver? SK wrenches, etc. $12

Flea market last weekend was a 40" Gorilla work platform for $15. Been wanting one of these for a while.

And despite how much I bitched about restoring the $149 Mac triple stack six months ago, I came home with another one last weekend. Paid a little more than the last one, but this one is 6" wider and a few inches taller.

And even though it's currently blown apart all over my garage, I answered a CL ad after work today for "free parts bins and an old beat up Snap On tool chest". Someone had gotten the two larger bins first, but turned down the smaller bin and the chest. Not bad for free.

The lower is a 1972 KR 558B. All the drawers work fine.

No date or markings on the mid box. It looks like an older Snappy to me, but uses the same kind of clips as my 70's Mac boxes. Any help ID'ing it would be appreciated.
