That Fairmount 11-inch Auto wrench could be worth some good bucks ($35 or so) in the WWII Jeep market if it has the right markings. Post a zoom and I will let you know.

Private Lugnutz;

Here are couple of pics of the Fairmount 11-inch Auto wrench.

I braved the beanie babies and kids clothes at a local TOO and found a few rusty bits. A 50s-60s era New Britain 7/16" combo, a little Norton whetstone in a case, a frozen pair of Crestoloy 6" diagonal cutters, and a MAC Tools tape.

I got to an estate sale late yesterday and there was not much left. I always look up in the rafters and glad I did. These 2 were hanging horizontally and blended in. I got them both for $15, I usually pass on these but had to buy something.

Geez, they look unused!
Would you take a close up pic of the Craftsman handle, and also cross post on the Craftsman Long C thread?

This was my day: up and out to Alburtus for a community yard sale, then down rt100 to Barto for a quick 1-1/2hr visit to Jake’s flea, then back up 100 to Emmaus for another community yard sale, then a quick stop at the Weil AC flea market in south Allentown.
So much kiddies things...but I did manage to spend $14 on:
a 1900&1902 Frank Mossberg patent K10 10” automobile/bicycle adjustable wrench,
a Bonney #24 DOE,
a C’man blue grips bent nose pliers,
and a c1982 Skil 6-1/2” circular saw in blue steel carry case, including owners manual, rip fence, and wrench.
(I wasn’t really thinking on this one - I had dropped my 7-1/4” from a rooftop a couple years ago, and have only used it with cutoff disks since, so I have eight good 7-1/4” wood blades I still can’t use.)
I found the R2 screwdriver bit laying on the ground as I was walking to my car - a freebie!
Tomorrow is the first Sunday&Tuesday flea at the Allentown Fairgrounds - can’t wait to see how it goes.

I picked up this cast iron stand earlier today. This is HEAVY, and has the original crinkle paint on it. It will be perfect as a base for a bench grinder or a vise. The gentleman who owned it was a shoe repairman, so I imagine it had something to do with that line of work. I bought it for $7.50.

Maui! That’s a “you ****,” in my book. I haven’t seen anything like that for less than twenty or thirty times what you paid. A fine grinder base, indeed! It says “Auto Soles?”

A last minute estate sale popped up on Craigslist a few blocks from home this morning. It mentioned tools so we stopped by to check it out. It turned out to be a family run estate sale and one of the family members was a school classmate of my wife’s. Her brother did the tool pricing but it probably didn’t hurt. The first thing I spotted walking in was an old looking vise for $10.00 which I immediately grabbed for GJ member Shiftless since I don’t have the vise vice. There were a lot more vintage tools than I expected so we filled up my bag. The first shot is the vise followed by a shot of the rest of the tools. Next is Barcalo followed by Snap-On. A few early S-K pieces are followed by some Plomb after cleaning.

OK I'm back from getting the lantern!

I had a much better day than anticipated based on the "Scouting report" from the CL pics and descriptions! Many ads, most were junk only six made the "cut"...

But before we get to today's finds, last night off of Freecycle I pick up some "Silverplate silverware, with some extra servings pieces" Actually it was a realy nice adn well taken care of set of 8 with almost double the spoons, the mentioned servers, some odds and ends of Stainless, another set of 6 place settings of a much older and less cared for set, some miss matched servers that MAY be Sterling (except for one that is German Silver), AND over 2 lbs of a set (two spoons don't match ) that ARE sterling! Pic of the sterling:

attachment.php

Back to today: First stop I'd been to a couple times before (about one a year or so?) But this time he had some tools out. I managed to find two Craftsman Metric Combos much larger than average, (so rare to see largr metrics) A Yankee driver, and a Proto 1/4" drive speeder.

attachment.php

The next stop was a trip down the freeway and I scored some older Wood handled MAC Drivers "those were the first screwdrivers I ever bought! - Not that it matters...." as well as an LED flashlight marked "Cummins", and a couple of Chain links

attachment.php

Another place had a "Free Pile" and I got some rope, I though what was Sisal rope but turned out to be a Macrame pot hanger, Some Big mantles for a Coleman Northstar lantern, A duplex receptacle, (It was in the box I left it there!) 4 ratcheting tie downs Some Tree Ties, A cloth covered foam seat pad, and a wood box!

Then it was off to the the HS Flea: (To be continued)

Garage sales all morning and not a lot of tools to show for it. Best buy were these 4 Armstrong wrenches, 19, 22 & 24mm and a 1". Not pictured is a Craftsman 1/4dr -v- ratchet and a black handled Craftsman Pro screwdriver ... both are like new.

LS, it says Auto Soler on the base. It looks very old, I’m guessing 1930s or 40s. I’m debating whether or not to try and clean it a bit. I don’t want to damage the paint at all, but I would like to get some of the debris off of it. I may try to just blow it off first with some low pressure air from my portable compressor.

The Flea was good to me today!

A Long C set of augers IN THE METAL BOX! and chrome plated adn Vanadium steel so certainty Pre war (the adjustable Irwin was in there also), A baggie of CM 1/4" (newer) metric sockets, an older "star Trek" switch ratchet and a hinge handle breaker with a plastic handle (no clue on maker) all in a baggie, Also a craftsman L breaker, a 1/2" Saltus, and one of those GAM style driver sets.

attachment.php

The I got to a "weekend Warrior" (or at least a guy I had not seen there before) and Scored! A partial set of Bonney Zenel single offset DBE's! (I think my first? I see why guys like these!), 7/16 to 15/16ths - missing the 1/2, 3/4, and 7/8. Two Plvmb, DOE's marked for e navy, (one modified), three Combos, and a 1/4" speeder!. Loving the Zenels though!

attachment.php

Then it was back on the road and the last stop (late opener)and I fond something I had to have (for the price especially) I have no clue on age or maker but a small single cylinder engine, with a kick starter! (missing the carb, manifold and governor linkage, but other wise all there WITH compression!)

This is NOT OSHA approved! :bounce: Look at the exposed kick starter gears! :pimpflash

For $15 I was not leaving it behind!

And finally, the lantern pickup, it needs a lot of cleanup, and a generator, but its an early Coleman "Quicklite" double mantle lantern!

attachment.php

attachment.php

No built in pump! the pump is a separate unit! (I have several pumps...) you open this one way valve and jam the pump on ot adn pump away!, then close the valve, (this is also the filler cap)

And on the way home I stopped at an estate sale as a TOO that I ahd NOT included as It was clear this was going to be high prices... High was an understatement! most everything was still there at near the end of the day! ($3000 for a Marantz receiver! hundreds for old oscilloscopes! (not even desirable ones...) then the had the "artworks" (Sky high there also...)

I got these for $3 total (How about $5?" - "I was thinking three..." - OK, not going to quibble over the difference"

The box appears to be nice oak under the VERY DARK and over done stain... I'm thinking I'l sand it out and go again...

The wire wheel is very fine and the buffing wheel was new.

Maui, you can almost certainly wipe it down with WD-40 safely, and if you have nasty stuff that won't do try some Naphtha/white Gas/Coleman fuel "in an inconspicuous place" and see if the paint holds up...

Great Find, Suckage WELL awarded!

There is a governor control of some type under the spark plug wire, and I don't know what is to the left of that? :headscrat

Oh
Well I feel pretty lucky today. Drove a few hours with my wife to meet a guy with some blacksmithing tools, and got a few gems. Got a 90 lb. Peter Wright anvil, nice old Craftsman 2 lb. cross pein hammer, swage block, v bit tongs, and some 4140 round stock. Had to get my wife something for dragging her with me, so we got a couple cool old creamer cans. e20b688f6a5cc01e88e500e2a9937034.jpg2bb9038f8bae5d46d8940324b9f1469b.jpg 987ccc00bb396bcf18bb3e975999fd10.jpg8ea08b2cd7efa131d15bbceec8a0b04d.jpg772f9c1f9a95bad4fe890efa3f58f504.jpg

Some strange striped screwdriver $1
Not sure what the deal is with the striped screwdriver. Seems there is brass where the shank meets the handle. Going to clean it up and see if there is any markings.

Looks like the warning pattern on a snake: “red touch yellow, kill a fellow; red touch black, friend of Jack.”

Maybe someone was inspired after an exchange like this:
First Mechanic: (scanning workspace) “Where the heck is that screwdriver I was using?”
Second Mechanic: (noticing it at First Mechanic’s elbow) “If it was a snake it would’a bit you!”

Finally made it out to he Sunday flea again. Only found a handful of stuff I “needed”. Plomb spinner, 6” adjustable for the collection, barcalo buffalo doe, sk extension, various plomb, Proto and sk sockets, and a 9/16 p&c combo that completes a set.
I spent more on donuts than tools!

Thanks for the suckage awards Dkroth, Outlaw and LesserSon! I showed up on the third day of the sale and honestly didn’t expect it to still be there. The woman who sold it to me seemed genuinely surprised that I didn’t even haggle with her on the price. :)

Cbacres tipped me off to another sale I was unaware of, this time on my own street.

Just got back. Found one little gem, a Blue Grass 4 incher for the collection. Not the prettiest but good working.

Also a beat up Case holster, Herbrand 3/8 extension, and two different coded Craftsman Crown Top keys.

Picked up an articulated floor lamp at a flea today for 25 bucks. The data plate is gone. The articulation joints scream Dazor but I've never seen a Dazor base like this. Any lamp experts out there? It's incandescent, not fluorescent. Other picks were a tankless Craftsman air compressor that's filthy but in good working order, a Long C abrasive disc in original packaging and a set of masonry bits in a nifty wooden box.

Laundry room converted into a workspace.
Picked up a free top and bottom tool chest earlier today loaded with tools. Haven't got around to sorting through it.

Half off day at the one estate sale so I picked up this Superior no 43 swivel vise for $6. Still has its original paint and everything works great. Got to love hometown made items. 230e97916ec41bbf1f040e9f9b6f78cf.jpgd5c1861c9b73bf0acbeac0f03ced8a7b.jpg5589199078cf7e4b28868f20d08c5756.jpg

Wow, JoCo, that lamp is cool. Looks like the base was assembled from spare parts from Robbie the Robot!
