Well im sad to report i have now lost all hope in craftsman tool quality. I picked up a set of Cman wobble extensions at my local sears, had a gift cert to spend. The locking pin no longer works, i cannot free it. The socket simply falls off now, very annoying as you can imagine.
HF seems to have better quality than Cman these days...

Im not so sure about that, and does harbor freight have the same return policy? Not quite, for HF returns you have to mail it in then you have to wait for them to determine that the tool failed due to craftsmanship, then they have to send you a new one and if im not mistaken you have to pay postage. Go back get another, try it again and if the same thing happens Ill eat my hat :spit: Sometimes there are low quality tools, and unfortuanately I think craftsman is headded down the wrong path (shame considering i like my craftsman stuff and Ill be verry angry if they start making the things I out of ****) But im sure ive said it on here before and Ill say it again "the best toolbox will consist of a mixture of different mfr. (hf not included) ranging from matco, snap on, mac, craftsman, cornwell, dare i say it shudders.... kobalt and a few lesser brands.

Yes, i will be getting a new one.
It just seems like every new Cman tool I buy has been disappointing. The alum jacks, im on my 3rd one in 4 years. Luckily i have been able to get new ones under warranty.
I dont use my tools improperly, just disappointed that I cant go to sears and have confidence in my purchase. The tools just feel cheap compared to my SO and Mac stuff.

Nope, for HF, as long as you have the receipt, walk in, walk out in 2 minutes. I've done 3 times, 1 exchange, 2 returns. no questioned asked.

We call Sears power tools Crapsman now, they are made in China or Taiwan just like HF stuff. A guy has to pick and choose carefully. I don't know what factory makes their hand tools.

I don't think most people can or want to keep up with a receipt for every 'lifetime' tool they buy, pro would be exception, but most pros dont bother with alot of HF. But one thing you need to do if you do keep these receipt is make a copy of it as soon as you make the purchase because after about a year you can no longer read a printed register receipt.

I have found over the years that anything I have used or purchased from Craftsman that has a power cord or runs on gas has been more or less a POS, JMHO. I won't even consider craftsman for power or lawn & garden tools. I have found that hand tools from Craftsman are ok, not great, but for the money not bad, and I don't have to manage receipts for warranty issues.

I have a small drawer in my tool box dedicated to receipts, warranty paper. I don't understand why it's so hard to keep good record. don't you have to use them when you file your tax any way if you are a mechanic?

those receipts will be tax deductions when I sell the house(may be in 20 years). my HF receipts from 3 years ago are still good.

Some of the retailers use receipts that the ink doesn't last, I have some old receipts that you can't even read anymore, never a problem with Craftsman though.

I don't keep receipts in my box they go in a accordion folder. If your box is stolen you dont have your receipts for insurance. Keep them separate.

Not quite, HF, walk in, swap tool, walk out... Less time than Sears because they also happen to have enough staff on hand most of the time. No postage involved. Cman quality just isn't there any more. I know some of the Cman sockets I got this winter were much worse quality than some of the HF stuff. Brand new cman sockets that were rusty and had flaking chrome!!!!

Oh and there is a drawer in my tool box for tool receipts. They go in there as soon as I get home.

You are talking out your rear about Harbor Freight. Their warrantee is no questions asked, no problems AND you get new, not "rebuilt" POS out of a bucket. I warantee torx sockets there all the time, and before I get a comment about these sockets, I was dealing with Snap-on and Crapsman all the time as well, got tired of having to wait on certain sizes. Went to Harbor Freight, picked up 3 sets and keep them in rotation.

See now if you used the inventory database I created (free), you could scan a copy of your receipt and save it right with the picture you took! :D

I keep receipts of everything in an old shoebox in the closet. Along with a scanned copy attached to the database of course.

About 2c on the dollar what did you expect?

Though I admit I hate the wobble extensions as well.

You might want to get a refund and look for a used set from a pro brand like Snap-On, Mac or Matco.... maybe post in the classifieds; there's bound to be someone who would like to sell some! :) I would rather buy pro tools used for the price of new craftsman... get the pro quality @ a Craftsman price!

With HF you just walk into the store & exchange it for a replacement. When they ask for the receipt you tell them you lost it, but only bought the tool 3 weeks ago... even if you've had it for 5 years ;)

I had a Cman extension break on me a few years back after only a few uses and took it back to get warrantied. The replacement worked great and I still own it to this day. Could have been just a defective tool out of the lot. If it keeps happening, then I'd get a better quality tool.

Im with you almost 100% on this.... The problem I have is getting used pro tools warrantied outside of a truck route. Its 5 minutes to Sears, several days to send off a tool to a pro company. Sure its less likely to break, but its still a point to consider.

My hf impact wobble extensions are holding up to pretty hard daily use from my ir 2115ti! As far as that goes there are 3 of us at work putting them through their paces and they are holding up fine

I remember seeing the post about the DB. Need to read up on that and see what the system / software requirements are, sounds good. I buy mostly used tools so no receipts to keep up with. But I should document and inventory my tools in the event there is a loss; at least I will have a list and pics of the tools.

I bought a 2 inch 1/2 inch drive wobble extension last year when Sears had the open stock sale. I thought it was made by SK. Not sure now, because I thought SK made tools had a K stamped on them, and there is no K on my extension.
