Truper Body Hammers

Anyone have any experience with Truper Body Hammers? They look like fairly decent quality, with better fit and finish than the Chicom stuff.

Going to need a couple for an upcoming metal project, don't intend to become a professional body man, these will be just for occasional hobby use. Not going to drop a bundle for Martin or SnapOn for tools that will see infrequent use.

I like the feel of hickory handles better than fiberglass, so I'm looking for an alternative to HF and the $25 sets in blow-molded cases on eBay/Amazon

Also, will need a few dollys and a spoon. Recommendations?

Not what you are asking but I have had good luck with Majestic body hammers. Martin as well.

Buy the Eastwood 7 piece set, its only $29. Just need to spend a few hours sanding the dollies and hammers. Hammer handles are wood. The $59 set is the same quality only with fibreglass handles.


I just looked at Eastwoods catalogue, they have their own brand set on sale for $44 and comes with a shrinking hammer. I'd buy that one.

I've never used/ heard of Truper, but I guess for the price, they are worth a try. Along with my Snap On and Martin hammers, someone left an HF set at my shop once, and they really aren't bad, not great, but I've used them quite a bit and sacrificed 1 or 2 pieces when I had a specific need and didn't feel bad about cutting up a cheap hammer. Plus the dollies are smaller than the standard sized ones which can come in handy for tight crevices.
I've never used any of their body tools, but Gearwrench has what looks like a decent hickory handle 7 piece set with polished dollies for under $100 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005MVBBX2/?tag=atomicindus08-20 but I would think most of the sets under that price point will mostly be the same 2 or 3 manufacturer sets with different colored handles and cases

Jazz1, I looked at the Eastwood hammers, the fiberglass handled set looks to be a lot better quality than the wood-handled ones. The picture of the wood-handled set is identical to the Performance Tool set sold on eBay/Amazon.
I like the slimmer neck on the Martin hammers, and prefer wood handles.
(strange since I have about 25 Estwing hammers...)

Did find a Martin starter set for ~$107 at Summit that looks interesting .

Yup, affordable but not the best, the only gearwrench tools I have is a set of metric ratcheting wrenches and I think I have a 1/4" metric socket set somewhere. I would definitely suggest one of the Martin sets, they usually have a 7 piece set of 3 or 4 hammers and a some dollies and a spoon for $200 and will be a lot nicer than anything at or below that price point. I kind of just collected individual pieces here and there, but if I was going to start over, I would buy one of the martin sets and get a few extra hammers and dollies to supplement the rest.

What im assuming is the same 4 piece $100 set on the summit site that you were referring to, while not a bad price, leaves out some pretty useful/ used a lot hammers and dollies

The Truper hammers look nice, never held one. Eastwing should make body hammers.
I only bought the Eastwoood set because I was going to need a wedge dolly. The set was $20 delivered. Couldn’t beat that with a big stick
