chrisnazzy...I'm so stoked that you were able to get that vise! It is truly an unbelievable find.

Great pick up Chris. The last unicorn triple swiveler (Pittsburgh) went for 2300 IIRC, so I imagine you have quite the valuable vise there. How far does it open?

Thank you all!

I'm feeling like a very lucky vise collector lately for sure. I don't buy vises to resell or make money but this one may be just too rare and valuable to keep to myself. Time will tell but in the meantime I will do it some justice by tending to some minor issues it has.

The swivel pin is obviously missing and the handle is bent pretty bad. The handle to lockdown the swivel base and rotating body simultaneously is broke off too but it's a standard thread so I'll either make a new one or find a machine lever to use as a donor. I've only had it for a day but I've already got it in my mind who might just be able to lend a hand in restoring this rare beauty!

Kevin, I'll get more specs for the spreadsheet soon. It does have "4 1/2 N" cast in the dynamic jaw.

Dave, The non swivel jaw version is listed at 94lbs so I'd assume it's near there in weight. I'll weigh it soon and report back.

Fierljeppen, thanks for the info the other day. It's great having your knowledge and historical data on tap. If you and several other big time vise gurus over on the FB page haven't ever seen one of these, I know it must be crazy rare! I also found another ad showing the non swivel model numbers but indeed, nothing about a swivel jaw version. d566e4af258cb29272d39b9c5fa5e9d6.jpg17bb0665240b7ed055c6f67a73d8098d.jpg

Speaking of those milhof vises. Probably misspelled but just spotted one in the wild on the back of a service truck.

Here's the Williamson version of the triple swivel. It was on craigslist in Reno several years ago.

yeah Bl00, apparently I should have bought that one when I found it, it was only $275. Live and learn.

tried a different color (for the first and last time) on the Yost 104 bought a couple of weeks ago. On the positive, it's in a lot better shape than it was!

Vise looks great! Your paint remover was working overtime on this one.

Thanks Bob. Agree. May still repaint it yellow at some point.

Smitty - that is quite a haul. Did one Craigslist stop net all of that iron?

Here’s a pic of a 4C I just picked up. It’s next to a Reed 405 for size comparison.

Wow...take a few days off and these pages explode with fantastic scores.

The top score of course is Chris’s unicorn! (great story by the way)

For a bit of contrast let’s take a look at an unbelievably abused Prentiss swivel jaw...make that “used to swivel jaw”
It’s for sale priced at $150

Yeah, that all came from one ad. 668 lbs.
Nice find on the Reed 4C, those vises are incredibly well built. Yours look to be in good condition with all of the original parts.

Edit: that looks like an older model. Is there a date stamp?

Wow. 668lbs at a single stop is a good day in any book. Love to see those pics; thanks for sharing.

The 4C is in pretty good condition, except it is missing the split nut. If anyone has an extra a split nut from a 4C, 106R or 206R, please DM me.

Hard to tell from the pic, but it is a newer bull-nose 4C. I plan to clean it up this weekend and will look for a date.

For everyone who asked “what’s in the crate?” here’s a short video of me opening the crate:
