Its been almost half a year since i have updated anything. That is mostly because i have finally gotten to the point of working in the garage, instead of on it. That all changed a couple weeks ago when the temps started dropping and working in the garage became not so comfortable.

So I picked up a Big Maxx 75K propane unit, finished insulating up in the attic and called up the local coop to deliver a 250 Gal tank. Here's how it turned out...

Ive got some redneck camo going on around the propane tank for now, but soon enough it will have a yard barn totally hiding it from view!

How long do you think it'll be before you have to refill that 250 tank?

Based on what I gathered from the propane company, reading here and some recommendations from an HVAC friend, with my usage tendencies--- the consensus is a tank should last somewhere in the ballpark of 2 winters. But we'll just have to see over the long haul on that...

My heating plans are to keep it at or just below 50 from Dec to Mar. Being in southern Indiana we can have some really odd whether... you could wake up in December and it be in the 60s or wake up in the low teens.

I will occasionally knock it up to 60 depending on how long and what type of work i am doing out there. So far this year i have not had to even had to leave it set on auto. I was a little worried about 75K BTU being enough. I was also worried about the distribution of the warm air around the shop -so far, neither have been a problem. We had our first single digit temps last night too. I think i choose right!

Question for you: Is that siding a metal product or vinyl? I like it. Metal is notoriously expensive around here. I know you mentioned the color but don't recall if you said what it is.

I've gotten the chance lately to work on a couple cabinet projects for the shop. The first was a over the toilet cabinet from a bathroom remodel at our previous house. Here you can barely see what it looked like before in all its seafoam green glory:

garagezz009.jpg

I had to take about 10" in height out of the cabinet to get it to fit below the opener and above the outlets. Nice to get this puppy on the wall after kicking it around for 5 years. I had to redo some of the little trim on the cabinet doors after cutting them down. The cabinet really works great for holding aerosol cans in a spot that was otherwise pretty useless.

Here's another one that i have to credit the basic idea to Jack and his 12 Gauge garage (different cabinet though).

Ive been wanting some shallow storage above my welding bench to hold some clamps, hammers etc.

I found this cheap little cabinet at HF last week. It was on sale for 50 bucks and 20% coupon got it down to $40.

I removed the divider between the center and right doors. I bought some pegboard hooks to use but they didn't fit the hole spacing so in went some lumber and 8d finish nails. Still haven't quite decided on what else i am going to hang in there yet.

And here it is after a coat of paint and some character.

I also hung a sheet of galvanized to protect the wall behind the welding bench.

Any ideas on a part number or link for that cabinet?

Also on the galvanized, where did you find it? I'm trying to come up with material for my "wainscotting" around the shop, and keep waffling between that and the galvalume siding. If you don't mind sharing, do you remember the cost?

I'm gonna go with "What is that thing in the white/pony-car peaking out from behind the Waggy?" for $100 please, Alex

Or is it gonna be the Do-All? (finally)

Sure, here you go: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=39213

The galvanized started life as a 5'x10' sheet. I found it at on the metal rack at a friends business for a 12 pack of beer.

Hey Purdue SD,

I stayed up late going through a great build. Great builds take time, trust me.:bounce:

FYI I built my own house and it took me seven months, after 5 and weekends, solid. Wife later wanted a 400 sq ft sunroom. It took me two years. :headscrat

I told her, heck the build is part of the fun.

Starting a remodel soon, hey any ideas out there? Like change house square footage to garage and garage to house? Think she will notice?:shocking:

Please keep us posted and great Jeep you got there, too.

Looks great! How are ya liking the lift?

I like it a ton so far, but havent really used it other than to run the mustang up and down a couple time. Ill keep you all updated. I will be putting a clutch in the mustang soon.

Did you lock the lift on floor ? I dont saw any screw...
I ask the question because i own one to be install but dont know the good way and screw size to lock it on floor...;oD

You dont have to anchor the lift to the floor. It is not required. However, it does come with the appropriate anchors should you wish too.

Great build. Pretty awesome stuff.

Question: Are you able to open the garage door with the mustang up on the lift?

Yep, picture is deceiving enough that it made me go out and double check. Ive got room, the top panel of the door will be over the hatchback though.

WOW!!! Great build!!!

I just read the whole thread. Thanks for all of the great tips and advice, and for sharing all of those pics. I know it takes time to post while you are trying to build the shop and still keep your normal life going. So, thanks again!!!

Could you please make a list of things you would have done different (if any)??

Also, is everything working the way you expected? Like the window, doors, heater, and air compressor placement??

For me, it's back to the drawing board for mine. :)
